Relaxing Family Holiday in Midi Pyrennes

  • 5 of 5

Maubec, is a beautiful spacious home, which provided our family of 2adults and 3 children (2 x11year olds & 1 x10year old) the much needed restful and relaxing holiday we had been crying out for! It was our first family holiday to France...and it did not disappoint. The house is big enough to accommodate 2/3 families/friends sharing. The pool was a good size for our 3 water babes...The children loved the games room and the lounge was perfect for enjoying the World Cup...as well as the odd Movie. We all enjoyed eating outside and the barbecue area. The information provided by Alistair prior to our arrival was invaluable and allowed us to plan which markets and towns to visit, as well as restaurants. We found the locals all very friendly and Combes Freres Bakery a few minutes away were so friendly and provided us with delicious breakfast, pizza and patisseries....we will definitely miss our morning visits! Alistair the owner was very responsive and helpful with any queries we had during our stay. We visited Le Petite Train d'Artoste (2hrs30mins away) well worth the thrilling experience...NCO Park treetop climbing in Lannezman, perfect for our young adventurers. The football pitch at Saint Marcet was a big hit for one of our girls who just can't get enough of football! We certainly would not hesitate in returning to Maubec and this most beautiful part of France.

Wonderful holiday in Midi Pyrenees

  • 5 of 5

My family and I have just returned from a wonderful holiday at Maubec. The house suited us perfectly, having two small children (5 & 2) there was heaps of space both inside and outside to keep them occupied! The rooms are all enormous and beautifully decorated. There were also plenty of bathrooms for the five adults in our party.

In addition to the pool, trampoline, swings and slide, we were delighted to find quite a few toys, games and inflatables for our use. The kids didn’t really want to leave the property!

Alistair was really helpful in the lead up to our stay, and quickly replied to queries we had during our time there too.

I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this property to anyone looking for a lovely house to stay in in this location. Family or otherwise, this caters to every need. We hope to return!

A fantastic french holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved everything about this house. The traditional french style made us feel we were really experiencing a slice of history. The house was very clean and great for families with a fantastic decent sized swimming pool, very spacious rooms and great outdoor space for family bbq's. We absolutely loved the games room too where we taught the kids how to play table tennis and pool. We decided to leave the darts though! I cannot recommend this house enough for families who want to experience real france and spend some time together. The area is also great with lovely countryside. We particularly enjoyed the lake which the kids loved and there is a big open air swimming pool with slides not too far away.

We would definately being going back, cant wait till the next time!

peaceful position, great accommodation lovely

  • 5 of 5

This house is so perfect for a large family! Every room is very comfortable, and the kitchen is a great place to congregate since we were all able to sit together. In good weather we were able to dine outside as a family, and there are plenty of loungers etc available.

The facilities were excellent and we were really comfortable. There is UK television available as well as internet, keeping teenagers happy!

Whilst the weather wasn’t particularly kind to us whist we were there the swimming pool was well used by the children and I was able to relax in the sunshine on a couple of days! Recommendations for dining were also well received and we much enjoyed the Auberge Champetre ( an au few du bois restaurant) even our grandson who is a vegetarian !

Our trips from the house were also made even better when we returned to the peaceful ambience and position. We went to the local towns and also Lourdes for the day, well worth a visit.

There is a large swimming pool in Aurignac, which we enjoyed as well. Great house, great position, although quiet and nearest nightlife bars etc were a few miles away so not for everyone but we loved it.

Beautiful holiday home in a peaceful, rural setting - perfect for two families

  • 4 of 5

The house has been beautifully restored and is located in a peaceful hamlet with distant views of the Pyrenees. It was perfect for 2 families sharing and the games room was a real hit with the teenagers. The heated pool was fantastic and we loved the various seating places around the garden.

We visited the local pool at the lake with the diving board, slide and great restaurant a few times. A trip to Le Pic du Midi is an absolute must - stunning views and a great day out.

If you arrive on a Sunday be prepared that all the shops are shut from lunchtime and it's a bit of a drive to get bread and patisseries if the local bakery is closed.

Overall we highly recommend this house for a relaxing holiday and Alistair was very helpful with any queries we had.

Saint Lary Boujean:-

A beautiful hamlet located on a peaceful hilltop within the foothills of the Pyrénées.

As well as stunning views of the surrounding countryside and the mountains, it is just a 10-15 minute drive to Aurignac, Saint Gaudens or Boulogne-sur-Gesse with supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and local attractions.

Its proximity to the Pyrenees offers easy access to ski resorts which offer all year round walking, climbing, and water sports. There are also a number of thermal spas within an hour’s drive.

There is a fantastic boulongerie with the original mill within five minutes drive. The boulongerie’s van also visits the village twice a week if you are unable to make the short journey.

The local area is steeped in ancient history, with many Roman ruins easily accessible to the public. These are clearly signposted in the area.

Aurignac (10mins):-

The nearby picturesque mediaeval town of Aurignac provides excellent butchers, green grocers, a wine cave, bakers, restaurants, cafés, banks, a small cinema, a post office plus a doctor’s surgery and a pharmacy. There is also a lovely playground for children aged 2-10. There is a small market in the town on Tuesdays and Saturdays. During summer regular concerts and events take place, including an open air cinema, a night market, street theatre and world music. Classical concerts and further cultural events are also held in the Bishops Palace at Alan a further 5 minute drive from Aurignac.

Saint Gaudens (15mins):-

Lies right at the base of the Pyrenean Mountains, which gives it a truly spectacular setting. It is an ancient fortified town, whose mediaeval walls impart a sense of history to all who look on them. Built in the 11th century, and extended in the 14th century, the fortifications were modified when the internal walls were demolished in the 16th century.

Saint Gaudens has many lovely old cobbled streets and fascinating corners to explore. It also has a useful modern side to it, and as a sizeable town it can offer pretty much everything you may need. There are a number of shops and large supermarkets, doctors, dentists, schools and banks. There are plenty of good restaurants in which you can soak up the atmosphere of the town, enjoy a glass or two of wine and try the local gastronomic specialities. All tastes and pockets are catered for.

Boulogne Sur Gesse (10 mins):-

Pretty small town with several supermarkets that are open on Sunday morning. In addition there are a few cafes and restaurants, lovely lake with Municipal pool.

The Municipal Pool overlooks the lake and is composed of 3 heated pools:

- 25-meter pool with diving board,

- Children’s Pool

- Paddling pool with mushroom (for babies and younger children)

- Fantastic Water slide.

It is open from the beginning of July and costs €3 for Adults and €2 for children.

Opening time:

♦ From Monday to Saturday from 10:30 to 12:30 and from 14h to 19h

♦ Sunday from 10:30 to 19h.

Next to the pool there is a snack bar and fantastic restaurant overlooking the lake.

Lac De Gimone (10 km from Boulogne Sur Gesse)

Saint-Blancard on Lake Gimone (280 hectares) is a beautiful bathing lake with a sandy beech overlooking the Pyrenees. From May to September you can also hire pedalos and canoes. The lake also has a picnic area, landscaped area for children, swings and a zip wire.

Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges (36 km):-

Is one of the 'most beautiful villages of France’ and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The village is in a lovely sleepy location, surrounded by the lush green valleys of the region and overlooked by the Pyrenean foothills. In addition there is a lovely golf course overlooking a lake - Golf Du Comminges.

Built on the site of a Roman city, it was once a large town called Lugdunum Convenarum, where Pompeii ruled over 10,000 inhabitants. Things have changed slightly and the village now has about 250 inhabitants!

Further afield:-

Carcassonne (1hr 30 mins) with its famous walled mediaeval castle town and Albi (1hr 30 mins) with its spectacular red brick Cathedral. In addition you are equidistant from the beaches of Biarritz on the Atlantic and Narbonne Plage on the Mediterranean Coastline (240km).

Airports:-

Toulouse Airport is about 90 km away or about 1 hours drive and is our closest airport. It is very well served with up to 12 flights a day (in peak season) from Gatwick (Easy Jet), Luton (Easy Jet), London Heathrow (British Airways) and Stansted (Ryanair). In addition there are flights from Birmingham (Flybe) Manchester (Fly be and Jet 2), Bristol (Easyjet) as well as many destinations throughout europe.

Tarbes Lourdes Airport is about 100km and is served by Ryanair from Stansted Airport.
