Benson Cottage, completely refurbished in January 2013 is a the perfect place for a holiday break in beautiful Bath. A hidden gem in a secluded pedestrian street in the centre of town, a few minutes level walk to all the major tourist attractions, restaurants and bars. From outside Benson Cottage has all the charm of a Georgian Bath stone home, step inside through the original front door and you find a loft style, open plan fabulously equipped kitchen dining room. The large wooden table seating up to 10 is perfect for celebration meals and get togethers. Glass doors lead through to the charming sitting room with two large comfy sofas and a chaise longue. There is plenty of space to lie back and watch the 32' TV/DVD, relaxing after a day of shopping, sightseeing or a night on the town. The stairs to the first floor open directly into a loft style sleeping area with exposed beams, funky wallpaper and cushions. The room is flooded with natural light from the huge lantern skylight. There are two generous single beds which can be made up into a super king. Our beds are handmade by a traditional English company using natural fibres with super comfy pocket sprung mattresses. Our soft, cosy feather and duck duvets and pillows with Egyptian cotton, satin stripped sheets guarantee a night of comfort and luxury.
Double folding doors lead to the second bedroom with twin or a super king bed. Both rooms have plenty of hanging and storage space. There is a drench-style contemporary shower room, making the upstairs area perfect for four friends sharing or a family with two children.
The third bedroom is downstairs from the kitchen dining area. This large cosy room is decorated in soft, sumptuous colours with vintage fabrics and furniture. There are twin beds that can be made up as a super king and a separate full size day bed. If you have an extra person, we can put a fold up bed in this room too without it being too cramped. Next to the bedroom is a contemporary elegant bathroom with bath and shower. We have oodles of hot water, fluffy white towels and personal toiletries to ensure everyone can have a comfortable shower or bath before venturing out on the town. This downstairs floor is perfect for three friends or a small family.
We provide a washer/drier in a warm cupboard with hanging space for drying wet coats. Travel cots and high chairs are available. The house has wifi internet access and iPod docks.
We have a library of paperback books and DVD's for longer stays and relaxing weekends.
Benson Cottage is our latest family project in Bath. After the success of refurbishing Rennie House, our first holiday home in Bath, we searched for another pretty Georgian property near the centre. We eventually found Benson Cottage in Autumn 2012. Our aim is to provide a wonderful cosy place for get togethers, family celebration or just hanging out with friends. Rachel searches out the properties and does a total refurbishment. She loves tracking down vintage accessories in markets to bring a more personal touch to the quality furnishings that make the house so comfortable. We have relished refurbishing Benson Cottage, creating a contemporary, exciting space for our guests to enjoy seclusion and comfort in Georgian surroundings. It is gives us great joy to be able to offer such a delightful house so near all the major attraction of Bath, at the same time being a comfortable and quiet place for relaxation and fun. Sam has designed and set up our websites to show the house at its best and manages the day to day running of both properties. He is on hand and ready to help all the time. If you need ideas for things to do while staying in Bath, Sam can help. We can arrange for extra services such as a chef or additional cleaning if you are staying for longer than a weekend. We hope you will share our excitement visiting this beautiful city and enjoying all it's many charms.
Sam Carter purchased this house in 2012
The layout of the house is perfect for different groups. The ground floor with kitchen dining room and living room separates the two sleeping floors each with their own bath/shower rooms. Hen parties will love the funky decor and open plan spaces for a gathering. Two families with one or two children each will be able to have their own areas then meet together in the communal living spaces. The stairs are open plan but easily manageable for small children. The house could not be more convenient for the town, only two minutes walk from Milson Street and a few minutes from all the main attractions. Waitrose is five minutes away and there are wonderful cheese, wine and deli shops all close by.
If you fancy breakfast out, there are several cafes within a few minutes walk open early that serve wonderful croissants or cooked breakfasts.
A Georgian Cottage, right in the centre of town but with all the style and convenience of a contemporary city loft. The perfect place for a cosy weekend break or a longer holiday to explore all the city has to offer.
The famous Toppings bookshop is 200 metres from the house. Numerous restaurants, bars and clubs are genuinely less than five minutes walk away and all the attractions of the town no more than ten minutes level walk from the cottage. The town's main shopping street, Milsom Street is less than 5 minutes walk.

Excellent communications with Sam leading up to our arrival. Sam reminded me of the key and parking arrangements when we booked and then before we arrived which was really appreciated.
The house is easy enough to find, albeit on a residential street. We had no problems unloading on a nearby street and carrying our bags down. Sam popped over straight away and welcomed us, left us a bottle of wine, lovely bread and some snacks. The kettle wasn't working as it should and Sam popped straight out to sort it and even bought us some chocolate to apologise, not expected by appreciated. Thank you. Parking was a short walk away and easy to find.
The house is spread across three floors and was beautifully decorated. We had four beds upstairs and another four on the ground floor, one was a campbed which wasn't too comfortable (too hard) but ok for a short stay. The house is so well equipped with two fridges, iPod docking station, basic supplies in the kitchen, toiletries, towels, lovely comfy bedding, slippers, umbrellas, selection of dvds, make up remover wipes and toilet paper. Our only niggle was the tv, it was too small and in the wrong place, a bit tricky for a group of eight to watch at once!
It's a shame there isn't any outside space but the house isn't to blame. It's really central Bath and everything is a short walk away - the shops, the Circus, the Crescent and the Therma Spa.
We had a wonderful weekend in the city and the cottage was home from home. I can highly recommend Benson Cottage, ideal for a hen group or group of girls.
The property was tucked away in the middle of Bath in a pedestrian street.......that was our first challenge to park, find it and get our luggage to the property.....but added to the charm of this unique cottage. We were met by Sam, the owner, and immediately felt welcome and at home. The cottage was beautifully clean and it's quirky decor was well presented. There were some lovely touches including wine, bread, jam and flowers left for us to enjoy. The beds were very comfortable and the facilities were home from home. Perfectly located we walked from the cottage and found lots to do. A walk around the Bath Skyline (a National Trust walk), a trip to the Thermae baths, around the abbey and of course the Baths, The Crescent and The Circus! It accommodated 8 of us but was cosy. Would thoroughly recommend this for a friends weekend to soak up the glorious City of Bath at it's best.
Benson Cottage is in the centre of the World Heritage city of Bath, famous for Roman Baths, the Thermae Spa and glorious Georgian architecture. The Jane Austen Centre and other fascinating museums are no more than 10 minutes walk from the house. Bath is under two hours from central London and Heathrow Airport by train. Bristol airport only 50 minutes by car. Along with countless historical attractions, Bath has excellent restaurants, bars and clubs and amazing shopping at independently owned boutiques, galleries and vintage stores. The magical Christmas market set around the Abbey in late November and December is a must.
