Awesome family gathering getaway!!!!!
My husband and I wanted a quiet place to rest during our son's wedding reception. This place was absolutely the perfect spot. Very relaxing and was able to enjoy ourselves preparing for the reception which was on a Thursday in Barton and we were able to have a good rest after the reception at the cabin. At beginning it was difficult getting through with the owners but it took some time for them to realize that we are deaf. Our stay was awesome and we loved every minute of it. Wished we could stay longer and would love coming back in the future. It was like our home away!!! Wished we had washer and dryer and one more bathroom in the house, also Wi-Fi. Overall it was beautiful!!!

The perfect getaway!
My husband, 12 year old son and I just spent a week at this cabin, and it never disappoints! This is our second vacation at this cabin and I highly recommend it. The cabin itself is absolutely immaculate and is stocked with DVDs, games, and plenty of kitchenware for those days that you decide to eat in. There is also a gas grill that we used several times. With no jet skis or motor boats on the pond, the kayaks provided are the perfect way to begin and end the day. So peaceful. The neighbors abutting the property are very friendly, but the way the homes are situated there is a good chance you won't ever see them!
St. Johnsbury is an easy drive from the property, and there are several craft breweries in the area (within a 60-90 minute drive) that make for fun day trips as well. For the most part we just stayed at the cabin and swam, read, played games, fished and kayaked. There is almost no internet access (i.e. if you stand on the cover of the well and hold out your cell phone like you're the Statue of Liberty your texts and emails may load to your phone), but being unplugged for the week was awesome.
Last, the owners are very easy to communicate with and do everything that they can to ensure that you will enjoy your stay. We will definitely be back!
Thank you so much for the wonderful review.Michael and I are so happy that your second stay at Tall Tales Lodge was as relaxing and as enjoyable as the first.
Ironically, our son, Theo, was at basketball camp at Wheaton the week Owen was at the cabin.
Enjoy the rest of the summer!
Michael, Linnea & Theo
P.S.( I love the comment about the phone reception! Anyone that has stayed at the cabin knows that is not an exaggeration;)
What a surprise to find such a gorgeous log cabin in a rather remote location. The cabin is beautifully designed, with up-to-date and very comfortable furnishings. The large windows offer fantastic views of Bald Mountain, the adjacent woodland, and of course the pond. One has the sense of complete privacy, with adjacent cabins hidden from view. There are only 7 or 8 other cabins around the entire pond. (None as elegant as this cabin!) We appreciated having the use of a canoe and two kayaks. This peaceful and quiet pond enabled us to hear the occasional calls of the loons. What a treat! We appreciated being able to go hiking in nearby woods. A short drive away gained access to more vigorous hiking, as well as restaurants, etc. This cabin was a perfect get-away for us!
An amazing spot!
Location: if you are looking to 'unplug' this is the spot. It's remotely located on a pond with very few camps on the pond. The backside of the pond has no camps and is pristine wilderness. This camp has hands-down the best spot on the lake with beautiful, panoramic views.
Log home: the cabin itself is unbeatable. It's not a mansion but it's a log cabin built with every detail in mind. This 'camp' living in luxury. Beautiful fireplace, large windows facing the water, modern kitchen and living space, gorgeous woodwork, screened in deck and great outdoor lawn space. Top it off with satellite TV and a flat screen above the fireplace.
Logistics with the owner: dealing with Mike was easy. You can tell he cares about this cabin and wants to meet each person who rents to ensure it'll be left the way it was found. Logistics were simple and Mike even left us a gift of local brews in the fridge to kick-off our stay.
Would recommend this place to anyone looking to get off-the-grid and enjoy nature during their stay.
Just as amazing as the first time!
My husband and I stayed for our first Anniversary in 2012 and we returned this fall with our 1 year old son. We had such a great time! It was fairly easy to baby-proof as it was very clean and absolutely no clutter.
Thank you so much again to Linnea and Michael for welcoming us again and sharing their hidden gem!!
We are so happy that you , Craig, and baby Ethan enjoyed your second stay at the cabin:) Thank you so much for the thoughtful gift! I have 100's of antique doors and knobs saved on pinterest...love them!
Happy New Year Whitten Family!
All our best,
Michael, Linnea & Theo
Property was as nice as expected and was the saving grace of the experience.
Communication with the owner was a nightmare. Booked a rental, was only able to book sat-sat (not specified in listing), I requested three times to book additional days to extend our vacation and finally learned two days before our check in date that we could go ahead with additional days. Owner stated he would give me a verdict on additional days, but never followed through with his word. I felt like I was begging to give them a few hundred more dollars.
I also had to contact the owner to inquire about directions, procedures, and steps to get to and gain access to the lodge. His response? "I thought I sent that." I received that response a couple of times when I requested info.
I also had to request back my security deposit. There was no word 11 days after we vacated if we would receive a full refund or not. I, again, had to contact the owner to push him to refund my check.. pretty ridiculous. And the kicker? It was addressed to a "miss" not the "Mr." that I am.
It was an absolute shame the communication was so lousy. It didnt ruin the vacation, just left a sour taste in my mouth prior to the vacation and left it sour once we left. Its unfortunate as we wish we could go back. But you wont catch us there under this ownership.
Michael and I have had nothing but 5 star reviews D.B.A. Tall Tales Lodge, and prior to the new cabin we rented the antique school house for 20+ years with most families returning year after year. One couple from CT. has been staying for 2-3 weeks for nearly 2 decades.
We do only rent from Saturday to Saturday during our busiest times as noted on our webpage, but we always try and accommodate our guests and their needs. During the spring and in November & December we will rent a weekend or a minimum of 3 nights during the week.
If you read the many reviews, you'll see that Michael is very informative and tries to be as helpful as possible. He is always accessible to answer questions about the cabin itself or the many things to do and places to see in the area. He always calls the day of arrival to make sure the guests are happy with the accommodations and to find out if they have everything that they need. If he is not able to reach our guests on the first day he continues trying during the week just to check in.
It has always been of the utmost importance to us that our guests enjoy their stay. It truly does make us happy to hear about everyone’s discoveries and adventures in the Kingdom and that they leave with wonderful memories of their vacation at Tall Tales Lodge.
Let me end by saying that I am very sorry that you felt communication did not meet your expectations.
Also, please forgive my mistake of addressing you as Ms. Courtney Carnahan and not the mister that you are. I have a niece named Courtney and since I never spoke to you, I just assumed…..Again, I apologize.
