The area of Tremezzo is one of the most popular tourist attractions on Lake Como and is located on the western shore. For some time now Tremezzo, along with the villages of Lenno and Mezzegra, have become a 'commune' known as 'Tremezzina'. Nestled in a sheltered bay, midway between Mezzegra and Cadenabbia, gives the village an ideal location.
Tremezzo has been inhabited since Roman times and many ancient ruins are still visible today. At one time wars between Como and Milan involved the town and it was completely destroyed, but it did recover and then became part of the Visconti area. From around the 1600's the town again began to flourish which saw business grow with other European countries.
There are many places of interest in this area, but the spectacular 'Villa Carlotta' is without doubt the most famous tourist attraction in Tremezzo, it is open to the public and a visit here is essential. Built in 1690 for the Milanese Marchese Giorgio Clerici, it has fountains, sculptures and a magnificent Italian garden. Another outstanding attraction is the statue of the Madonna Nera (the Black Virgin). The Swiss Catholic Aschler family initially brought the statue to Italy and it is now on show at the Church of Santa Maria.
Lombardy - Lake Como Area:
The Italian Lakes are a little slice of paradise. Elegant ribbons of blue water stretch out ahead, folded into the sun-baked foothills, with a spectacular back drop of the snow-capped Alps.
Lake Como offers hidden treasures just waiting for the visitor to discover them: charming corners forgotten by time, lakeside villages where nothing seems to have changed for centuries.
It is steeped in history with an immense collection of churches, architectural masterpieces and works of art covering the centuries. The lake is situated in a basin surrounded by wooded mountains, and offers an extremely varied landscape, with its' shores featuring a succession of pastures, and woods as well as harsh and impressive rock formations.
All this alongside elegant, lakeside villas with sub-tropical gardens, which provide a haven of peace and tranquillity and chic resorts such as Varenna, Bellagio, Menaggio and Como itself.
Warming, in spriing and graced with natural beauty, the lakes are still a place to draw breath and wonder. Lake Como, oriented north-south, ringed by characterful old villages often wedged onto narrow beaches between rugged cliffs and water. Those classic lake images of flower strewn balconies, Baroque gardens and splendid waterside villas can be found here in abundance. Dotted around and between the lakes are some of Italy's finest art cities, such as Milan, Verona & Bergamo.
The most romantic and picturesque villages on the lake are Santa Maria Rezzonico, Varenna (15 min by ferry) & Bellagio (8 min by ferry), Lenno (visit Villa Balbianello, location for 007's Casino Royale as well as Villa Gaeta, right here in Menaggio) & Laglio (where George Clooney owns Villa Oleandra).
First of all, I would like to say that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Villa Tremezzo, Lake Como.
Happyholidayhomes were perfect with assisting us with our stay. It never really felt like a business transaction but more of a personal touch so that we got the most out of our stay in Lake Como. We must reserve special praise for Danilo who was exceptional in recommending to us places to eat, places to go and what to do. It really took the burden from us and it was really nice and beneficial to have a local's insight to Lake Como. We really felt that Happyholidayhomes went over and beyond what we expected.
Villa Tremezzo was perfect for our stay. George was great in escorting us to the Villa and showing us the essentials of the Villa. The Villa really met our specification. It was nice that the pool cover had been taken off as this allowed us to have a dip in the pool on our last day. We really would recommend the Villa to any family or group of a similar size.
Danilo's restaurant selections were spot on. I think Danilo gauged from us the type of restaurant we were after and we really felt that we were able to sample local cuisine and delicacies. The consensus was that the Golf club was the best but La Darcena and the Platini restaurant on the lake were still good. One of our requirements beforehand was getting in a personal chef to cook for us (something recommended and sorted out by Danilo). This was on our last night and the food he cooked was excellent and we had a really good end to our stay in Lake Como.
Danilo was correct in saying to get the most out of the lake you really have to go on it and hiring a boat was definitely one of the highlights. We all enjoyed having a go driving the boat.
We really felt the recommendations from Happyholidayhomes allowed us to get the most out of our short stay.
In terms of improvements I really can't think of any. I would give the service a 10/10.
Please feel free to add this as a review to your website.
I did not take any photos as I leave that up to the girls. But I can ask them to see if they can send some holiday photos.
Let me know if you have any questions.

The beautiful resort town of Tremezzo is situated along the stunning central western lakeshore and enjoys an enviable lake front position; close to the main lake attractions of Villa Carlotta, Villa Babianello and offering a frequent ferry service to Bellagio, Menaggio, Varenna and Como city. Guests can also enjoy the many cafes, bars and restaurants on offer in the town such as the famous wine cellar bar 'Cantina follie' and Tremezzo Park Boathouse bar which are both ideal for memorable evening aperitifs, the lakeside 'La Darsena' restaurant, the hillside 'agroturismo' restaurant of 'La Fagurida' and the many cafes which serve incredible coffee, pastries and ice creams.
The Tremezzo park is ideal to relaxing, sunbathing and swimming and the wide variety of amenities on offer in the beautiful resort town of Menaggio can be reached in just 10 minutes by car along the breathtaking scenic lake front road!
There are Golf clubs around Lake Como: The Menaggio & Cadenabbia Golf Club is Italy's oldest golf course. Established in 1907 with 18 holes Par 70, it is located above Menaggio near Croce, in Grandola ed Uniti, approx. 20 min. by car.
Restaurant Golf at the club serves fantastic food and is well recommended.. Guests are always welcome, please call beforehand to check course rules. Golf Club Menaggio: (Menaggio Como).
This beautiful lake region of Italy is not the best for skiing as you may imagine, despite its scenery, crisp air and near perfect visibility and mountains capped in winter snow. It does however have Skiing opportunities at local resorts for a day out.
There is a small ski area on Mt. Lema, not more than 10 km from Lugano, but you have to be lucky to have enough snow for skiing. In Ticino, the local Swiss Canton, the best places to ski are probably either San Bernardino (south of the pass of the same name) or Airolo (south of Gotthard pass). Both are reachable in about 1 hour by car across the Swiss border.
There are direct trains to Airolo as well from Lugano and hence from Italian Stations. To S. Bernardino there is only a bus connection. For more snow try Andermatt (on the north side of Gotthard pass) which has normally good snow conditions and a good choice of runs.
The closest major ski resorts are St. Moritz and Madesimo toward the Splugen Pass which is approx.100km.
