Corshill Cottage was originally a blacksmith's cottage dating back to 1810, which has been carefully extended and updated to provide relaxed, spacious and comfortable accommodation for 9 people (11 including a double futon sofa bed in the sun room).
It stands in a large, well-planned charming garden, including ample private off-road parking.
The downstairs accommodation comprising a pretty sitting room with wood-burning stove and comfortable sofas, TV and DVD player, which leads through to the peaceful sun room overlooking the garden.
The kitchen is in French oak. It is well-equipped with electric Range master stove, oven and microwave. French windows open onto the garden at the back where there is a patio with seating. A scullery with dishwasher and fridge/freezer is next to the kitchen as is the utility room with WC, wash-hand basin and washer/dryer.
There is a large family/dining room with centrally situated wood-burning stove and TV/DVD player. Access to the eastern side of the garden is by the French windows opening out to a second patio area. The dining area has a large table, which can comfortably seat 12 people. A twin-bedded room with en-suite shower completes the downstairs accommodation.
There are 2 staircases in Corshill, one at each end of the house. The first one leads to a bedroom with a king-size double bed and a lovely large bathroom with luxurious bath and shower attachment. There is a large fitted wardrobe situated between the bedroom and bathroom available for clothing and other belongings.
The second staircase leads to the 2 remaining bedrooms - one double bedroom with en-suite shower room and fitted wardrobe and one family room comprising a single bed and a double bed as well as an en-suite shower room.
The twin room downstairs is located to this side of the house.
All bed linen, towels and other household necessities are provided as well as logs for the wood-burning stoves. Heating and hot water provided by an oil-fired central heating system are also included.
My name is Carolyn, I am married to Alan and we have a teenage daughter. We live in Stirling, so only 10 minutes away from the Cottage. I grew up near Stirling in the Clackmannanshire village of Menstrie and went to College in Glasgow. I have spent some time in the North East of England but moved back to Stirling in 1994, where our families still live. We share our house in Stirling with my mother who lives in the garden flat located under our house. It is lovely for our daughter to have her grandmother so close by.

We purchased this property with a view to moving into the property to live, however this didn't go quite according to plan, so we have decided to let the cottage as holiday accommodation. Having lived in the Stirling area for many years, this was a property that every time we drove past, we always commented on it and imagined how lovely it would be to live there. It is such a pretty, rural setting and yet ideally placed for so many attractions, shopping, walking and other leisure activities.
We particularly love the Cottage when the sheep are out in the neighbouring field as you feel you could practically reach out and touch them when you catch sight of them through the window located half-way down one of the staircases. It is a very private property and yet it is right on the main road into Thornhill so you don't have to drive miles up a single track road to get a lovely feeling of seclusion. The cottage looks particularly attractive in the evening when all the lights are on and with the sky being particularly dark in the country, this adds to the atmosphere.
Group of guys stayed with me and we wanted something spacious, cosy and quiet. This fit the bill perfectly. Stirling only 8 miles away so didn't seem too far from the city. We all would stay therer again and I got credit for the location so thanks to the owners for making us all feel at ease and welcome.
We enjoyed our stay here very much. We would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to use Stirling as their base for exploring Scotland. There is a lot to do in Stirling and this lovely home is just a 10 minute car ride from downtown. Comfortable beds, fully fitted kitchen, lovely rooms and enough space for all 9 of us to feel together but not squeezed into a tiny holiday apartment. A couple of heads up- the washer/dryer combo did not work well for us. Couldn't tell if it was user error or just not a great appliance. The WiFi was unreliable ( was a miss most of the time) . Usually that wouldn't bother me but we had a son who needed to keep in touch with school/work.If you are a bigger person the showers were a tight squeeze. My 6'2" son and husband made the best of them. :)
The cottage is on a curve on a tight 2 way road. No walking on that recommended. Highly recommend having a car.
We would absolutely book it again. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!!!
Corshill Cottage is within a 10 minute drive of the historic city of Stirling, including Stirling Castle, the site of the Battle of Bannockburn in 1314, Wallace Monument and many other must-see attractions. There is also varied shopping opportunities in Stirling, including the Thistle and Thistle Marches shopping centres as well as many independent shops in King Street, Barnton Street, Baker Street, Barnton Street and Port Street. Restaurants are many and varied from Cantonese to Italian to Indian. Our favourite Indian restaurant is the quite recently opened Green Gates restaurant at the bottom of Queen Street. For leisure pursuits such has ice skating, climbing wall and swimming, the Peak Sports Centre in Stirling has much to offer, including a lovely café overlooking the ice rink. For family days out, Blairdrummond Safari Park is a 5 minute drive away, which as well as the opportunity to drive through the wildlife area - think lions, rhinoceros to name only 2! - there is also the sea lion performance pool and many other leisure activities, including boating and a large play and picnic area. The delightful town of Callander is 10 minutes drive away and the gateway to The Trossachs, with the nearby Loch Venachar for those with a love of water sports and Ben Ledi for hillwalkers. The Lake of Menteith is around 7 miles away and is ideal for fishermen. Inchmahome Priory is also a must-see destination, which is situated on an island in the Lake of Menteith. It is an Augustinian monastery dating from 1238, with much of the 13th Century building remaining. There is also a wide range of plant and wildlife on the island. The boat trip over the island adds to the whole experience. The Lake of Menteith Hotel serves superb lunches and dinners, although it is probably preferable to book ahead for dinner. The nearby villages of Thornhill and Kippen offer opportunities for good quality pub meals, with the Cross Keys at Kippen being a personal favourite. There is cycle hire nearby at Scotland's Wheels Cycling Centre just outside Callander, which offers free parking and changing facilities. The Callander to Strathyre Railway cycling route uses the old Callander to Crianlarich Railway line which closed in 1965 and is recommended as on the way you pass Ben Ledi and cycle along the shore of beautiful Loch Lubnaig.
