Small quaint apartment

  • 5 of 5

The landlord was very accommodating and helpful. The location was perfect. We had a perfect little piattza cafe for breakfast every morning and a sandwich takaway shop that offered all kinds of choices and a discount card. Easy access to the metro as well.

Good, the bad and the ugly!

  • 2 of 5

Let me start with the Good - LOCATION!! The location of this apartment was amazing. We walked to many of the attractions in Rome and cloud easily walk to the train station to go to Vatican City in 20 mins.

The bad - the key that Fabio gave us didn't work properly. And we often had to fiddle through 15-20 mins before it would unlock the 2 gates.

Fabio wasn't very responsive to Whatsapp when we texted him from US, which made us really anxious and worried before our trip started. Thankfully he was responsive while we were there in Rome.

The UGLY - the place was SMALL, I mean really SMALL especially the bathroom. We felt claustrophobic in there in 4 days. The shower was so small that your arms would hit the glass while applying soap, I mean smaller than a shower in a cruise, really?

We pre decided the price of the taxi - to and from the airport £40 each way and suddenly the day before Fabio pretended like we hadn't even discussed it and tried to increase the price to 80/70/60.

The value for money was just not there. Paying more than 120 Euros and living at a tiny place like this with no room service(like you get at a hotel), insufficient towels, etc, I would never recommend this to others visiting Rome from US.

Giving 2 stars and not 1 just because of the location.

Nice small residential street with a handy grocery and plenty of restaurants. Most all major attractions were an easy walk. Owner was helpful.

Perfect place: clean, nice and close!

  • 5 of 5

This place was great! Upgraded apartment with a great mattress, great air conditioning and good wifi. Fabio met us outside the apartment, gave us tips on local restaurants and activities around his place (great suggestions with reasonable prices...including the best coffee and Pasteries we found for 4 euro for two people each morning right outside of our place). Fabio provided us with a google drive link that had multiple links for various tourism around Rome, eating options, rental car info etc. His is very organized and responds quickly! He made our stay hassle free and we had a great short stay in Rome!

Wonderful property and location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with Fabio from 9/29/16 to 10/3/16 at his property located near the Colosseum. He arranged for a driver from the airport which made it very convenient to get to the property. He met us at the property and showed us around the flat AND the neighborhood, making recommendations for places to eat as we went. We enjoyed a coffee and some conversation with him before we went back and got settled into the flat. We had an amazing time in Rome! We walked everywhere and stumbled upon some great treasures as we made our way through the city. We had hoped to hear from Fabio again (he said that he would contact us with some links to some places to see/eat) but never heard from him - even when we tried to contact him about where to leave our keys when we left. This was the only disappointing part of our trip there. Rome was a wonderful city and again, the flat was perfect, clean and in a great location.

The quarter is the oldest one of Rome: in the ancien times the name was SVBVRA (you have to read 'V' like 'U'), it was a place with a lot of brothels... Nerone used to go there in disguise to test plebeian mood, and it is Caesar's birthplace also.

Today is a little bit different, Monti is a very cool quarter!

This is the article published in TheGuardian (http://m.guardian.co.uk/travel/2012/mar/08/rome-monti-neighbourhood-city-guide):

'The full Monti: Rome's cool quarter. A stone's throw from Rome's Colosseum, you'll find the up-and-coming neighbourhood of Monti, buzzing with cool bars, fashion shops and traditional restaurants, loved by a loyal local crowd.

The Colosseum may be one of Rome's main tourist attractions, but wander up the slight incline away from the famous amphitheatre and you'll find endless gems of architecture, craft, fashion and restaurants tucked away in narrow streets and quiet corners. Formerly the city's seedy underbelly – where prostitutes and outlaws took refuge until as recently as the 1940s – Monti is now an enclave for the city's young, creative flock, and has the new upstarts to prove it. Strolling the cobblestone streets, you're likely to hear the hum of a designer's sewing machine or the thud of a hammer in a jeweller's shop.

The neighbourhood, named after one of Rome's seven famous hills, marries modernity with historical charm – from the fresh new ventures rubbing up against centuries of crumbling craftsmanship to the dapper signore ordering his cafe next to a bedraggled hipster.

Smaller and less touristy than the nightlife hub of Trastevere, it retains a strong community vibe...'
