The Views!!! What can one say!

From every room one has a spectacular view of the mountainous region of Lesvos, great sweeping views of the north Aegean and the whole bay of Molivos. And on some occasions Mount Athos in the far distance has been reputably seen. Views of the castle and village from the front veranda which is also lit up at night. A postcard in real life.

Amazing Sunsets, every night, while enjoying your aperitif before dinning.

The Grand View Houses are two buildings. A classic Greek styled semi detached building with two abodes. Each has a separate entrances and private secluded balconies. Grand house Aphrodite with two exotic bedrooms and bathrooms, top quality living room and kitchen.

About Melinda Mcrostie

Ever heard of the Shirley Valentine film? Well that was my mum. Before the film. She is the original.

She came on Holiday here in Greece in Molyvos and met a Greek fisherman called Giorgos and married him. They remain happily married to this day. There are happy endings.

I, Melinda am Australian born, moved here with my mum when i was 7 years old and have been here every since. My husband Theo and i have been running a very successful restaurant called The Captain’s Table, here in the harbour of Molyvos since 1994.

For the past several years we have also been renting out our comfortable luxurious houses to visitors in this beautiful village.

With lots of experience after working in different situations, we feel that we can offer something unique.

Melinda Mcrostie purchased this house in 2010

Why Melinda Mcrostie chose Aegean Islands

After building 4 different rental properties we attempted to make our 5th something special.

Built from hand chiselled stones that we have dug out of the rocks from land.

Everything ecological and using Greek products to support the economy and still give the house a boutique, classic feeling.

As we have been informed by many we have succeeded.

What makes this house unique

Situated in the perfect position for someone who wants a Greek village holiday yet still offering the comfort of home and much more. Everything one could want for a luxurious holiday. Unique views!

Beautiful house, comfortable and well equipped.

  • 5 of 5

We were the first to stay in this beautiful new house, pleasing decor and fittings all good quality. We had a great 2 weeks, and would gladly come again. There were one or two teething problems, but Melinda (owner) was more than helpful in quickly sorting things. The house is nicely situated - a quiet location, views over the sea, but a short walk to either the main town, or down to the restaurants around the harbour (including Melinda and Theo's "Captain's Table").

Molyvos is an attractive little town; although there's lots of tourist activity, it's done discretely. Many mornings we walked up to the Platanos square and had a quiet coffee and croissant in the shade of the big plane trees. Lots of restaurants, of course. For swimming, we took a short drive down to the hotel at the far end of the beach; they were very happy to have non guests share their pool, beach access and showers, as long as we patronised their bar. With only limited beach access, Molyvos is not ideal for young children. And from what we saw, there may not be a lot for the 18-30 group to do; there's some kind of dance club on the beach, but that may be all. Being well past 18-30, we didn't investigate.

There's bits of history lying around in Molyvos, but apart from the castle, these are not heavily promoted, so keep your eyes open. There are some excavations of ancient sites (from 3rd C BC. The best is just 200m west of Grand View). And after some searching, we found the Kramniki Kralli Mansion, and were given a personal tour of the murals.

There are some walking/cycling trails leading out the back of the town. The signing is a bit patchy, but they kind of work, and offer 6-10K or longer journeys.

But there's not enough in Molyvos to occupy 2 weeks (unless you really do just want to swim, eat and shop), so I wouldn't have wanted to do this without the hire car. Car parking at Grand View is simply on the roadside; convenient, but takes a little care to park tidily to avoid blocking the narrow road. One disappointment was that quite a few places hadn't yet opened in May - some of the monasteries, even the much-promoted petrified forest. Nevertheless, in some of the places that were open, we were privileged to be the sole visitors, so that's not a bad trade off.

Travel from London involves two flights, via Athens, making for a tiring day. Apparently Ryan Air may start doing direct flights.

Can it get better than Captain's View?!

  • 5 of 5

We have loved staying at the owner's other property, Captain's View, for the past nine years. This will be our first stay in Grand View Afrodite this coming September, and we are very much looking forward to it. The owners are meticulous about creating an idyllic Greek experience in their accommodations, and we are confident their new property will exceed our expectations! The attention to exterior and interior details are abundant, and the location and views from Grand View Afrodite are incredible...you would be hard pressed to do better here in Molyvos!

Molyvos, not too touristy but with everything available to the visitors. The village is built on a hill crowned by a Byzantine Castle. The houses are built from stone with cobble streets leading around and down to the beach.

The beach is 1 and half kilometres long. Near the beach is the Olive Press swimming pool that is open for the public.

There is a bank and 3 ATM.

Molyvos has many small groceries, lots of restaurants and bars.

There is a bus service during the tourist season which goes from Eftalou to Anaxos stopping/ passing through Molyvos.

In Eftalou (5 kilometres away) one can visit the Thermal Springs that is meant to cure many ailments. Petra (5 kilometres) is another village with a long sandy beach.

An outdoor cinema is open during the middle of June till the middle of September. Most films are in English with Greek subtitles.

Many car hire companies, where one can also hire bicycles and motorbikes.

Natural hot springs that this island is famous for.
