About this property

Large independent studio. Superb peaceful setting, stunning views.

The studio has lovely south-facing views over a courtyard towards the hillsides opposite. At the end of a no-through lane, it is in a peaceful hamlet setting. The owners, (who both work) are on hand in the old farmhouse and are happy to advise and assist if required.

Whilst the studio is entirely independent with its own sitting out area, guests are also welcome to use the gardens and grounds (2 hectares). The view is panoramic and has inspired photographers and artists alike as the light and colours change throughout the day and seasons.

The studio comprises a small entrance, a shower-room (large shower, vanity unit, WC, heated towel rail). The large main room (40m²) has a fitted kitchen area with garden door, living/dining area. The bedroom area has a king-size bed (180cm which can be separated to make two single beds, if preferred).
For cooler evenings, there is a wood-pellet burning stove, simple to operate.

This is a perfect spot for doing absolutely nothing, on a chaise longue with a book and a pair of binoculars to admire the remarkable birdlife. There are woodland walks on the doorstep if a little activity is called for.

For sight-seeing purposes, it is strategically located in the centre of the Dordogne. Motorway access at 15 minutes makes Bordeaux centre reachable in about 1h15.

Périgueux, the county town is a 20 minute run and full of interest with its roman ruins (arena, villa-museum) and superbly renovated renaissance quarter. The celebrated mime festival (“Mimos”) takes place annually in Périgueux (2020: 29 July to 2 Aug), as does the New Orleans Jazz festival (“MNOP”). You can also enjoy the (free) jazz/blues/swing concerts held in the various squares in the old town (“Macadam Jazz”).
The “Bandas” festival in St Astier (July) is worth a mention as thousands flock to hear a number of brass bands as they parade and play in the streets.

Bergerac airport is 30 minutes away. Brantôme, Les Eyzies and Le Bugue are 35 minutes away, Sarlat 1hr.

Perfect
Excellently furnished and equipped, lovely holiday home. The location is stunning, and the property is beautiful. One thing we particularly enoyed was the excellent insulation - we had very, very hot weather but inside it stayed nice and cool, even without airconditioning. Good sleep! Another thing we loved were the walks starting from the doorstep. The area is lovely. We spent a most enjoyable two weeks. Highly recommended!

The studio, which is large and generally well-equipped, is in a great location, with glorious views.
We loved our time in the studio - the views from the studio and the garden are glorious, constantly changing and always lovely. The studio is clean, airy and spacious. We did miss a proper oven (as I love to cook the local produce the provided combi microwave and convention oven wasn't really enough for me) and my husband (who does the dishes) missed a dishwasher. However, everything else was great, the owners are delightful and couldn't be more helpful and the location really central for lots of exploring. There aren't nearby shops, so you do have to be a bit organised, but there are some excellent local markets and Perigueux is not far. We were there for 3 weeks and did a lot of cycling (we had our own bikes), exploring, walks and just sitting around admiring the view and reading. Highly recommended

Beautiful and charming retreat
Lovely place which has been restored to a very high standard with everything you need and great views of the countryside. Hosts Tracey and Jean-Francois are very friendly and helpful. We had a fabulous time exploring the area and this was a relaxing place to retreat to after a busy day. Highly recommended!

Lovely very well equipped spacious cottage in a quiet and picturesque location.
We spent six nights in this cottage and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The friendly owner greeted us on arrival and made us feel welcome. The cottage was clean and very well equipped with modern facilities. The cottage is well located for walking the surrounding woods and hills and for excursions to interesting places. There are many attractive towns and villages nearby. We particularly enjoyed visiting the prehistoric caves near Les Eyzies-de-Tayac. We thorougly recommend this property. It is excellent value for money.
