About the property

Studio 50m ² in a small hamlet in the countryside.

Completely renovated and newly equipped in 2013, this studio has lovely south-facing views over a courtyard towards the hillsides opposite. At the end of a no-through lane, it is in a peaceful hamlet setting. The owners (who both work) are on hand in the old farmhouse and are happy to advise and assist if required.

The studio is entirely independent with its own sitting out area, guests are also welcome to use the gardens and grounds (2 hectares). The view is panoramic and has inspired photographers and artists alike as the light and colours change throughout the day and seasons.

The studio comprises a small entrance, a shower-room (large shower, vanity unit, WC, heated towel rail). The large main room (40m²) has a fitted kitchen area with garden door, living/dining area. The bedroom area has a king-size bed (180cm which can be separated to make two single beds, if preferred).

For cooler evenings, there is a wood-pellet burning stove, simple to operate.

This is a perfect spot for doing absolutely nothing, on a chaise longue with a book and a pair of binoculars to admire the remarkable birdlife. There are woodland walks on the doorstep if a little activity is called for.

For sight-seeing purposes, it is strategically located in the centre of the Dordogne. Motorway access at 15 minutes makes Bordeaux centre reachable in about 1h15.

Périgueux, the county town is a 20 minute run and full of interest with its roman ruins (arena, villa-museum) and superbly renovated renaissance quarter. The celebrated mime festival (“Mimos”) takes place annually in August, as does the New Orleans Jazz festival (“MNOP”), in addition you can enjoy the (free) jazz concerts held in the various squares in the old town (“Macadam Jazz”).

The “Bandas” festival in St Astier (July) is worth a mention as thousands flock to hear a number of brass bands as they parade and play in the streets.

Bergerac airport is 30 minutes away. Brantôme, Les Eyzies and Le Bugue are 35 minutes away, Sarlat 1hr.

The Very Best

  • 5 of 5

Without a doubt, this is the most well appointed gite we have ever seen. we have travelled Europe on many occasions and have never seen such an eye for detail, hosts Tracey and JF have thought of everything. It was a great stay wish we had longer. Would highly recommend.

Excellent studio apartment with fantastic views

  • 5 of 5

Excellent well equipped apartment with all mod cons, minor irritation with a demon kettle, however did not detract from our enjoyment of our stay. Excellent Base to explore the area and within easy reach of all amenities. Hosts provide lots of information for the area. Would highly recommend.

Everything we needed for a self-catering stay in glorious French countryside - beautiful studio.

  • 5 of 5

Lovely private studio, within easy reach of Bergerac airport, Perigeux and more local attractions than you can visit in 2 weeks. The setting is delightful - in woodland, high on the side of the Vern valley, and a short distance from the village of Manzac. The owners, Tracey and Jean-Francois, who live in the main house, are also delightful and could not have been more helpful or hospitable. Ours was a holiday of simple pleasures - walking on river banks, shopping in small supermarkets and village stores and retreating to our home on the hill to eat pain de campagne with cheese or jam, as the farmers worked at the haymaking, late into the evening, in the valley far below us. But whatever your pleasures, you could find plenty of them in and around Manzac-sur-vern. The Dordogne east of Bergerac and the whole of the Perigord are easily accessible if you can tear yourself away from the sunflowers in the Vern Valley.

Relaxing, comfortable gite in beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a superbly relaxing week here in June 2017. Tracey and Jean-Francois seem to have thought of everything to make their guest's stay as comfortable, interesting and peaceful as possible.

Both Tracey and Jean-Francois made us feel very welcome - thank-you for the wonderful evening enjoying the views, good food, wine and entertaining conversation.

We highly recommend this gite to anyone and when we next visit this part of the Dordogne again we will definitely stay here.

Beautiful Studio with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 5 days at this extremely well equipped studio on the side of a hill with extensive views of the countryside. You are a few miles away from a large supermarket to stock up on your essentials and then you are ready for what ever the area holds for you. Tracey the owner is very approachable and the perfect host, available for advice if you need it. There are many interesting and pretty little towns and villages in the area. Or you could just drink wine, relax in the sunshine and enjoy your beautiful surroundings. Looking forward to our return visit in the near future.

In the heart of the Dordogne, the four Périgords are within easy reach. A visit would not be complete without taking in the vineyards around Bergerac, the valleys of the Isle, the Auvezère, the Vézère and of course the Dordogne river valley itself. In addition to the festivals and 'fêtes locales', the traditional farmers' markets are still very much part of the local lifestyle: an inexhaustible source of inspiration and at the very least, a feast for the eyes !
