The Yellow House is a haven of peace and tranquility in the heart of rural Italy, it is secluded, hidden in a valley and surrounded by mature trees and beautiful views. The villa itself is elegant and comfortable and perfect for self-catering holidays for family groups. Happy days can be spent enjoying the large private pool, playing badminton or bocce on the new court, exploring the 10 acres of land and fishing in the stream. On rainy days you can still stay active in the new underground games room playing table tennis, table football and pool. For those who want to explore the area there is much to see including Lake Bolsena where you can swim, water ski, jet ski, explore the lake on pedelos and visit the beautiful island of Bisentina by boat. The city of Orvieto is only 40 minutes away and a visit will keep shoppers, historians and gastronomes happy all day long. Nearer home is the fascinating 'dying city' of Civita di Bagnoregio, a tiny town perched on the top of what remains of a an earthquake 300 years ago, and offers spectacular panoramic views.

Surrounding landscape: The large private swimming pool (5m x 15m) is situated on the side of a hill and below is the winding valley. The pool is secluded and peaceful. Around the perimeter of the pool is a mature rosemary bush providing a beautiful perfume in the evenings and fresh herbs for cooking. The marble patio is spacious with plenty of room for the 8 sunloungers. In the garden there are 3 large garden tables and outside seating for 20 people. There is a lantern in the oak tree which provides the perfect light for intimate suppers or large parties in the evening. There is a large pizza oven which is great fun to use for cooking pizzas, joints of meat etc. The garden is informal. and the area around the house has space to park several cars. There are plenty of places to explore on the land including 3 small caves and a stream at the end of the bottom field from where it is possible to fish for trout. We have one neighbour but neither of the houses are overlooked.

Eating and drinking : There are a wide variety of very good restaurants within driving distance of Civitella D'Agliano which cater for all needs including families. For specific details visit our website: Please contact us for the web site address. There are many local wines but the best known is the organic wine made by Sergio Mottura and his family who own the beautiful hotel La Tana dell'Istrice. If you are interested you may like to spend an evening with the Mottura family and their guests tasting wine, visiting the impressive wine cellars and finishing off with a delicious meal in their restaurant.

Cookery demonstrations. Learn how to make traditional dishes prepared in The Yellow House kitchen by a local chef. Guests can be involved in the preparation or just watch the experts at work. Enjoy the fruits of your labour accompanied by regional wines. The selection of dishes will vary depending on the best ingredients available. Contact Cristina for details of choices and price.

Things to do and see: If you enjoy shopping for local produce you may want to visit the markets, these are a typical feature of the local areas, the size of the markets vary depending on the town's importance. The markets usually start at 8am and finish at 1pm. On Monday there is a market in Bagnoregio, Tuesday in Bolsena Thursday and Saturday in Orvieto and a small market on Friday in Civitella d'Agliano. For those of you who enjoy golf 'La Querce' Golf Club is approximately 40 minutes drive away just south of Viterbo - 18 hole, par 72, 64262 meters. And those that ski -Mount Amiata is 60km from the house in Tuscany on the way to Siena (approximately a one hour drive). Although not on the door step it is possible to visit the resorts for day trips. There is good skiing at Prato della Contessa, Prato della Macinaie, Marsiliana and Cantore. Slopes are suitable for beginners and advanced skiers. For excellent local info 'Bolsena, Everything You Need to Know' by Fleur Kinson -

About e-mail - Emma de Souza (England), phone - Cristina Casian (Italy)

We live in Hertfordshire with our daughter.

We bought The Yellow House in 2002 and have always loved Italy, buildings and restoration. Some Italian friends have a property near Bolsena and after visiting the area we were struck by how unspoilt and beautiful it was.

e-mail - Emma de Souza (England), phone - Cristina Casian (Italy) purchased this villa in 2002

Why e-mail - Emma de Souza (England), phone - Cristina Casian (Italy) chose Civitella d'Agliano

Initially we looked at properties near Bolsena but could not find anything with enough seclusion or land. We broadened our search and came across several possibilities, The Yellow House was our favourite.

At the time the house was a ruin and we spent 2 years on the restoration. The project was great fun and we had lots of support from our project manager and now great friend, Kalle.

Parts of The Yellow House were renovated again in 2010. The main change was the kitchen which has been extended to form a much larger kitchen dining area with modern professional kitchen (30ftx 12ft).

A bocce court and garden were created in 2017

In 2018 an underground games room and larger sitting room were added, also the existing pizza oven was replaced with a larger, better insulated oven.

What makes this villa unique

Secluded spot, beautiful views of valley, local area unspoilt by tourism. Very close to local shops, restaurants and medieval village. Large private swimming pool. Outside pizza oven. Perfect base to explore Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany. Wine tasting and catered events including cooking demonstrations. Private fly fishing instruction for all levels of experience.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Emma, Just to say what a lovely time we all had at the Yellow House from 26/7 to 2/8. It met all our hopes and expectations and we had such fun with the pool, the outside terrace, the games (scrabble and monopoly were favourites) and we played a very successful game of 'Sardines' - If you don't know it, it involves one hiding and the rest searching until the last one finds the hiding place where everyone else is holding their breath! The house affords many good hiding places! Kalle and the cooks who came in did us proud and for the rest we enjoyed the local produce home cooked. Lovely place. I'm sure you are so happy when there. Best wishes

Amazing holiday villa gets even better!

  • 5 of 5

Another peaceful and relaxing stay at The Yellow House!

The best holiday rental we have ever stayed in - this was our second holiday here.

The extension to the house is amazing - our 3 teenagers loved the new games room with pool, table tennis and football. We loved the new lounge with big doors opening onto the garden. Making pizza in the pizza oven/ outdoor kitchen was really fun too!

We love the simple, but spacious bedrooms with lots of bathrooms, as well as the fantastic pool area.

We are sad to leave and can't wait to come back.....

Holiday with so many great memeries

  • 5 of 5

This holiday at The Yellow House must go down as one of the best holidays I have ever had. I and my entire family totaling 12 (7 granchildren and 5 adults) started our holiday the minute we arrived. The granchilred never stopped playing the hole time we were there, using the large pool and bowls court during the day and the pool table, table tenis, table top football inside at night. The Yellow House copes well with both ends of the age groups at the same time, as my children (the adults) always found a quite place to read.

My eldest granchild age 17 commented in the visitors book the house and the holiday was “COOL” (that equivalent to a 5 stars review)

To the House Owner and Management team Thank you for making memories which will last a life time for my wife, my children and grandchildren. I will be booking again in 2019

Perfect place to relax

  • 5 of 5

What can I say. Heaven.

It's our second stay (our first 2 years ago) and I will no doubt be back in the next few years (for the sake of variety!)

Pool is perfect and where my wife and our 2 young children spent most of our days. The weather was glorious (minus 2 hours of rain this week)

Cristina was on hand to assist with any enquiries and was happy to communicate via email.

The house itself is an improvement on when we last stayed. The new extension/living room was much more spacious and the addition of the pool table was excellent.

For me the only way it could be improved is with a TV in the living room for streaming purposes. Though that may distract you from the beautiful surroundings.

Wonderful

The Yellow House, the area and the local town’s people deserves a 7 star rating.

  • 5 of 5

The Yellow House well deserves the 5 star rating and with its latest improvements in my opinion 5 stars is not enough,

The Management team have really thought of everything to cover all ages and weather by adding a hole new wing to the House creating a relaxing lounge with glass patio door and a games room with a pool table, table tennis and table top football.

The Yellow House is perfectly located to visit numerous places of interest, this year we visited the Monster Park at Bomarzo which is only 40 mins away and well worth the visit also we visited the water falls of Casacata delle Marmite in Terni absolutely fantastic.

If anyone wanted to see Italy at its best then The Yellow House is a great place to start.

We are looking forward to returning

  • 5 of 5

This property is all it is described to be. The Yellow House huge but feels homey. It is appointed with everything imaginable, and there are so many toys! If you happen to find something is not available, just ask and the manager will see that you have it within a day. The pizza oven was a joy for us to use. The beds were surprisingly comfortable. The pool is huge and the water a good temperature. The setting is spectacular with gorgeous views of a valley and mountains and a small stream. The landscaping complements the natural beauty and the house. It is secluded, which is a delight, yet only a 15 minute walk puts you in the beautiful village for coffee or a spritz. The town's people are friendly and charming. The porchetta at the Friday Farmer's Market is the best I've ever eaten. We spent a month there, but it wasn't long enough.

Another prefect stay at the Yellow House!

  • 5 of 5

It is everything it's advertised to be and more. Perfect base to explore Italy or just hang around local. Plenty of room, great views. Best part of the stay is going into town and shopping at La Botegga (essa 4) grocery and buying the local meats, cheese and wines and going back to the house to enjoy inside or outside on the patio.

The villa is situated in the heart of wine-making countryside, it is the perfect place to relax and because of its unique location can be used as a base to explore Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio. The House is situated 15 minutes walk from the quiet, medieval village Civitella d’Agliano, in which there are several shops, a petrol station, a Banca di Roma and Post Office. Even nearer home is our local restaurant and a small supermarket. There are several other good restaurants in the area including at the beautiful Hotel La Tana dell’Istrice (the porcupine’s lair), where one can also taste wine from the impressive wine cellars. There is a pizzeria and several small bars. There are facilities for playing tennis, horse-riding, fishing, walking and cycling, information can be found in the Town Hall (Comune). Bagnoregio is the nearest large town and is 15 minutes by car. Orvieto is 40 minutes drive away as is Lake Bolsena, see link to our website for further information.

Other Activities at The Yellow House: wine tasting, cooking demonstrations, table tennis, table football, pool, badminton, bocce, and clay modeling with clay from the stream
