About Hrafn Gudmundsson

My name is Hrafn and on the picture with me is my girlfriend Þórunn. I am 30 and she is 28 years old from Iceland the only family member who isn't in the picture is our little daughter Elma Lind 2 years old she also loves staying with us at the cottage. :)

We live in Reykjavík city. We own the house Brekkur by the lake Úlfjótsvatn,

We love staying there and so do our friends and family so we decided to put it

on Holiday rentals and offer it for rent for other people to enjoy to.

I´ll be happy to assist you in any way I can and help you to make your stay as pleasant as possible.

Hrafn Gudmundsson purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Hrafn Gudmundsson chose Southern Region

We had already built the house and were looking for a place to put it on. We had been looking everywhere, but we had few very important tips to remember we wanted good location not far from our home in Reykjavík. And also the views we thought it would be so nice to wake up in this place with these view over the lake and surrounding mountains, hear the wild bird life during summer have the morning sun shining until the evening without anything blocking it and during winter having the strong northern lights with no light pollution like in Reykjavík. So we ended up finding this place and we are so happy we did cause we love staying there with our friends and family. So we decided to offer it for rent for others to enjoy to.

What makes this cottage unique

The location is perfect and the view is even better its not far away from Reykjavík (45 min away). Really close to all the major attractions south Iceland has to offer with lots of things to see and do. Then the town Selfoss is only within 20 minutes away where you can find every kind of service needed. So while your enjoying the nature at its best you can easily get every service needed from short distance.

Amazing cottage!

  • 5 of 5

I don’t often leave reviews but felt I had to make an effort to let people know how amazing this property was!

I had searched many sites looking for somewhere for my family to stay for our trip to Iceland at the beginning of November. We wanted somewhere secluded (for hope of seeing the aurora borealis) yet within reasonable reach of all the sights.

The cabin was just perfect! Tucked away on a beautiful lake yet within easy driving distance to all the sights you would want to see. We seen all the major attractions down the South Coast and driving to and from the cabin each day was easy. There was also lots of shops and amenities in Selfoss roughly a 15 minute drive away so we got take away pizzas and burgers the nights we didn’t cook.

The cabin itself was just beautiful. There was more enough space for our party with everyone given a lovely view from their window. The kitchen was well stocked and we could have went without buying all the basics such as coffee, sugar, sauces etc.

The hot tub was a lovely addition and one of the reasons I booked the cabin initially. It was something else sitting cosy in the hot tub searching for the lights!

There was a wonderful guest book in the cabin which previous guests has written in about their stay and we were gutted not to have had a pen to add to it! It was a nice touch seeing where all the others guests had come from and what sights they had enjoyed seeing.

Lastly the owner himself was a pleasure to deal with and was more than helpful from the minute we booked the trip offering us advice on directions, things to see etc.

We honestly could not recommend this place any higher!

Once again Hrafn thanks for all of your help, we hope to be seeing you again in the future :)

Wonderfully warm cottage with amazing view

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely cosy warm cottage even on the wettest of days! Amazing view from the decking that was constantly changing and we even saw the northern lights from the house too. The kitchen was equipped with everything you could possibly need and thanks to the previous guests, even a meal left for us. We carried on this tradition and hope that the next guests enjoy the pasta, sauce and chocolate that we left for them!

The cottage is perfectly situated for the golden circle attractions, and day trips further afield to the south coast and west coasts were easily manageable even in our 2 wheel drive car. This was our first visit to Iceland and we found navigating a breeze. The Kronan supermarket in Selfoss has everything you need and lots of familiar brands too, well worth a visit to stock up it's easy to find and just 20 mins away.

Thank you to Hrafn, his girlfriend and little Elma, for all their help and advice both before and throughput our stay! We will be sure to visit your beautiful country again soon.

Lovely summer cottage with gorgeous views. We loved our stay.

  • 5 of 5

My family (six of us) had a terrific time staying in Hrafn's lakeside cottage. Hrafn was welcoming and went the extra mile to help us plan excursions and recommended places to eat too.

Iceland was beautiful and our visit to the glacial lagoon was a high point amongst many highlights.

We even got to see the northern lights!

We would certainly recommend the house as a base for any family looking to visit this amazing place.

Exactly what we were looking for

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a comfortable but reasonable place with great views and close to as many sights in the Golden Circle as we could get. This was perfect. As it turns out, our favorite area ended up being the hiking trails all around the Hengill volcano which you look at directly across the lake. Only 20 minutes away and we were the only ones on the trails. We also found a hot river bed to dip into that flows by the power plant - all by ourselves there as well. Hrafn, thank you once again for everything. You helped to make our experience in this great country of yours like no other.

Great property in a great location

Hrafn was a great host, he explained everything clearly and made sure we were happy before he left. The location was great as it is in the middle of the Golden Circle.

2)Hiking in Reykjadalur / Steam valley / The hike is not very demanding (although it's not recommended for people that are afraid of heights since at one point you'll be hiking along the top of a deep gorge) and you reach the warm river after about 45-90 minutes (depending on how fast you walk and how often you stop to take pictures of the waterfall in the gorge and all the pretty bubbling muddy hot springs on the way). There are no facilities for changing your clothes when you get up there.
