Beautiful Comfortable Home

  • 5 of 5

We rented this home in July and had a wonderful time! It was beautifully decorated and was very comfortable for my family and other extended family members. The kitchen was well stocked and made breakfast easy as well as other snack times. I can't think of anything we needed that wasn't available.

The basement also provided us with entertainment and was great for the young adults to stay in with the pool table, the foosball table and large screen TV. The beds were all comfortable and there were plenty of blankets- yes, it was chilly in July this year.

We highly recommend this house and would stay there again. The views were spectacular and the grounds well maintained.

Great House - Had Some Issues but Owner Helped Resolve

  • 3 of 5

We have rented this house 2 times and although we had some hiccups this year (listed below) we will be back for a 3rd year in 2019.

Overall the house has a great location, is big and spacious and a fun place to hang out. Last year we had a tremendous experience - everything worked well. This year we had a few hiccups with the hot tub and firewood but were able to work with the owner to resolve the issues.

I found the owner to be very responsive.

1 Star experience, in a 5 Star house

  • 1 of 5

We rented Mike’s Brookside Lodge from 2/26/18 through 3/2/18. We should have realized back in August 2017, when we had to make payment in full, that we were dealing with a property owner that was not quite right. He (Mike) first would not offer any refund in the event that we needed to cancel. We eventually got Mike to honor a sixty (60) day cancellation agreement. So he would have the use of our money for over six (6) months!! The place looked pretty awesome so we decided to go ahead with the rental.

Upon arrival on Monday 2/26/18 we checked the place out thoroughly and discovered that the hot tub was not working properly. We were told someone would be out the next day to get it going. We were able to use the hot tub for the first time on Tuesday evening after a fun day of skiing. Upon arrival on Monday everyone signed on to the Wi-Fi and all seemed well. We went out to dinner and when we came back the Wi-Fi was not working nor were any of the TVs. Two of the TVs weren’t even hooked up!! We contacted the owner and he said to check out the box in the garage. We discovered the battery was not in the box. We hooked it up but had no luck getting anything to work.

Bottom line is we had no Wi-Fi or TVs

until midday on Wednesday after a lengthy conversation and multiple experiments with the owner’s service provider to get everything up and running. We were there for vacation not to spend our time getting these amenities to work. Two of the TVs never did function. We were expecting a turnkey facility for the money we paid and were very, very disappointed by these issues.

A couple of other issues were that the spindled chairs in the main dining/living areas were all on the verge of collapsing and had to be secured before they could be sat on. The pool table was nice but there was only one (1) working pool cue and the bridge was snapped in half and was taped back together sitting in the rack when we arrived.

The biggest downside is the owner himself. When we made a reasonable

request for a partial refund he accused us of knocking the battery out of the Wi-Fi box and leaving the hot tub in an unusable condition. He also suggested that we “had renters remorse and couldn’t really afford to rent his place”. Really?!!!

Perfect Ski In/ Ski Out spot in Killington

  • 5 of 5

So we have been traveling with the same group for several years for Super Bowl weekend and by far this is the best location we have found. We clicked on our skis at the back door and skied directly onto the Great Eastern Trail down to the Gondola. Great for the kids who wanted to retire early. After skiing the Hot Tub out on the deck was a good place to have an Apres ski drink. The house was nicely equipped with cooking supplies and we had plenty of room where nobody felt cramped. The main living areas fireplace was great and we stoked it the whole weekend with the ample supply of firewood in the garage. The first night was a little cold but the temperature came up by the second night for a more comfortable stay. I highly recommend this place and Sue and Mike were easy to contact and also very informative. Thanks for everything, hope to stay again.

Great location, but that's about it.

  • 1 of 5

Renting this house has been the worse choice we have ever made in years.

Upon arrival, first thing we saw was pile of garbage in the garage. Everything was full of grease in the kitchen, Glasses, plates, utensils, pots and pans, knives IN THE CABINET were not clean, we had to do dishes before we can use any of them. A lot of them were chipped as well.

Bundles of towels and blankets were still inside the washer and dryer. Hot tub had lukewarm water and A CIGARETTE BUTT floating. There was no light for the the deck where the "hot tub" is located, owner suggested that we should use headlamps since the wire for the deck light was not connected. There was no light in the sauna too, which was weirdly set up in one of the bedrooms and fits about 2 people.

There was no heat in the master bedroom, 5 degrees, no heat.

Don't plan to have a nice hot shower after a cold day out, the boiler did not have hot water to support 16 people throughout the night, which was the legal limit of the house claims the owner.

We were supposed to strip all bed sheets and place them in the basement by the washer, but not the pillow cases. Good luck having a good night sleep. We pulled the garbage to the garage as requested and guess what, the pile of garbage from the previous stay was still sitting there.

The nightmare starts after our departure, the owner promptly withhold our damage deposit and claim that we left a mess in the house. Now we do admit that several pots and pans were left in the sink and maybe some empty bottles on the dining table. Nothing crazy. IT WAS A DAMAGE DEPOSIT, and I had purchased damage insurance for the deposit I paid. Why would the owner withhold the damage deposit? your guess is better than mine! There was a cleaning fee in the original quote which should have the basic cleaning covered, it was not cheap!

We did not break anything, we only found the hot tub not working, lights not working, stove top not working. I tried to express those problems to the owner through the message on VRBO and received words like slob, "pig stye" and mention of my parents, totally ignoring the problems of the house.

Do yourself a favor and avoid any properties from this owner.

Great house in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing ski weekend! The house was large, clean, and beautifully decorated. Mike was friendly and accessible throughout our stay. The house is truly "ski in ski out" in a fantastic location. We have rented a number of houses in Killington and this was our favorite, by far! Thank you for your hospitality Mike... We hope to be back!
