Outstanding Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this house for 9 days in early August and were very pleased! I think Tracey P's review must have caused the management company to straighten a few things out. The furniture on the deck was clean and comfortable. There were more than enough clean towels in the bathrooms. I brought my can of wasp spray and took care of the few wasps that decided to visit us (just like I would in my own backyard). The view from the deck is awesome! We took lots of showers and never ran out of hot water. Somehow the entire house is very evenly air conditioned to 72 degrees regardless of which floor or room you are in. Very comfortable! We had the TV on and working great within minutes. The kitchen is big and had everything we needed. Nice family room too. About an hour after we arrived, two guys from the management company showed up with a load of firewood and they also made sure that the hot tub was operating properly so that it would be ready for us when we returned from dinner. Very secluded setting. You can barely see one neighbor and that's it. If you want a super clean sterile environment, it's called the Ritz Carlton and it's in downtown Chicago. If you are looking for a wonderful vacation home up in the mountains this is a great place. If you want the chance to see a big black bear in the driveway, like we did one evening, then yes you may have to put up with a wasp or two. It comes with the territory. We would not hesitate to rent this home again!

Bare minimums done to this property to continue renting it. Two stars only b/c of setting.

  • 2 of 5

I completely concur with Cathy U's review. I have no idea where all these glowing reviews are coming from. I have used VRBO 3-4 times and this was by far the worst property I have stayed in. Executive Summary: Nice location; property is TERRIBLY maintained. The owner should be embarrassed.

Pros:

-Renovated kitchen.

-Lovely setting, though the view is quite obstructed by the foliage and filthy windows.

-Decent beds.

Cons:

-Wasps coming from the easement directly by the main seating area. The management company attempted to address the issue by using 3/4" round foam insulation to block the opening, but it immediately started to fall down and was ineffective. This needs to be addressed, otherwise the one strong positive about this house - the setting - cannot be enjoyed.

-Not all windows have screens so it is impossible to get cross ventilation. Who wants to keep the house closed up and run the AC in the mountains?!

-Over half the windows were broken in some way - Casement crank missing/broken, window stuck shut, will open then won't close, glass cracked, ripped screens.

-The outdoor patio furniture was ok; the "cushions" were disgusting - filthy and smelly. Get new cushions or a new patio set that doesn't require them.

-All bathroom lighting was laughable. Additional fan/light in upstairs bathroom didn't function. Bathrooms smell moldy/dirty.

-No where to hang towels in bathroom or in bedrooms.

-There were sufficient towels, but many were stained or had holes in them. Gross!

-Eight cup coffee pot for a house that sleeps 12?! Coffee pots cost $30-50 - get a new one.

-Insufficient paper/cleaning products.

-No starter firewood.

Potentially lovely house

  • 3 of 5

The location was great. The house is spacious and roomy. Kitchen: fairly well equipped, however, not enough paper goods such as paper towels and no napkins, no sponge. Missing essentials such as scissors and a cord for the electric mixer. Upstairs bathroom needs more light. Overall, cleanliness was not great. The outside was filthy, furniture inadequate. Downstairs bathrooms were not clean, suite bathroom needs new toilet seat. Bedrooms need hooks and clothes hangers. Can barely see in any of the mirrors throughout house. Needs serious dusting throughout. Laundry room: the detergent bottle was completely empty. Need new lightbulb in one of bedroom closet. Several screens are torn and a couple of the windows are cracked. Beds were comfy but several were squeaky. There were no instructions for the TV. The outside lighting was great when coming home at night. We appreciate the notes left everywhere and the abundance of towels. This property is lovely and the house has great potential. With a bit more TLC it can be spectacular. With upgraded furniture, it could reach an entirely new level.

Great location and comfortable place to stay!

  • 4 of 5

Lots of areas to gather and enjoy beauty of the area. The roads in the neighborhood were great for dog walks and wildlife watching.

Loved staying here!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was perfectly situated on a quiet mountainside while being just minutes from Asheville. The gathering spaces were comfortable, open, and bright and although it was too cold to enjoy the decks during our stay, we know they would have been put to great use if it was warmer. Renting was a breeze and the rental agency stocked the cabin with towels, sheets, basic paper goods, trash and recycling bags, and even some firewood for the outdoor fireplace. The recently redone kitchen accommodated all our groceries with room to spare. It was the perfect place to relax after enjoying all the cool things Asheville has to offer! We loved it!
