Lovely cottage in a peaceful country setting.
We completely enjoyed our stay, the cottage was perfect for our family of 4. Monsieur was very welcoming and hospitable. There were a couple of small issues that were resolved quickly and he always was quick to communicate. The kids absolutely loved all the animals at the property. Especially the dog, cat and peacock that would visit! Was a great location to visit a number of the World War 1 sites in the area. There are no stores overly close by but within a 20 min drive you should find everything you would need. We would highly recommend this property. Merci beaucoup!!
Lovely place in a lovely location
We came across for a long weekend (Fri-Mon) to visit many of WWI war graves/sites.
The property was centrally located for our needs - 40 mins from Calais, 40 mins from Ypres and surrounding areas & about 90 minutes from the northern Somme area.
The property was really nice, located in the small village of Buysscheure.
The owner was on hand should we have needed anything but we were able to come & go as necessary.
Would certainly recommend this Gite
friendly hosts, large garden, simply furnished for a family holiday
This gite is in a lovely rural location in a pretty and friendly village. A short drive from St Omer and surrounding areas. The beach is only 45mins north and Belgium close by for the best of both countries. The large garden was ideal for playing games and sports as well as eating/lounging outdoors. The gite was clean and simply furnished with comfortable beds and free wifi. The kitchen was a good size with a super oven but lacked a range of pots and pans for cooking on the hob.
Lovely location - so quiet!
Lovely cottage set in beautiful french countryside. Very rural however plenty to visit within 20 to 40 minutes. As a family with 3 children we have visited the beach at Brays Dunes, a swimming complex and St Omer amongst others. The weather has been incredible and we have spent many an hour in the secluded garden. As for the cottage it is very well equipped, the owners have been welcoming and the price very reasonable.
The accommodation is very nice in a beautiful setting. The owner and his family are very friendly and welcoming. The only fault is that it was a bit grubby. The cobwebs on the ceiling needed to be removed and the kitchen cleaned. It was also very cold when we arrived, it would have been nice if the fire had been lit or the heating put on so there was some warmth in the gite.
Very Clean and Comfortable
We enjoyed our short stay at le Gîte du Bocage. Mme. Guillain was friendly and helpful. The grounds are well kept and the various animals are a pleasure to see. It wasn't sightseeing weather so we spent our time relaxing, reading and stocking up with French goodies for the festive season to come.
Unfortunately the local estaminet wasn't open for lunch while we were there but we found a very good alternative, 'In den Goedendag' at Bavinchove, about 20 minutes away. The food is good and we had an interesting two language conversation with the owners. If you're shopping at Auchan in Longuenesse, l'Escute offers a good eating experience with prompt, friendly service.
We'd certainly recommend the property but elderly and less able visitors should take care on the short curved flight of stairs. Many gîtes we've visited have had a folder of local information (such as garages and shops) and appliance instructions (which nowadays are usually printed in multiple languages) but we didn't find these.
Many thanks to M. Guillain for his pre-stay communication and Mme. Guillain for her on-site assistance.
