One bedroom apartment in the Portes du Soleil ski domaine

About Andrew Beale
I am Managing Director of Beales Hotels, the oldest hotel company in the UK, established 1769 and going continuously for eight generations. My first job was as a washer up in Les Gets, not far from Chatel, and I studied at the Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne, again not far from Chatel. I also worked as a chef at the Hotel Eden au Lac near Montreux. It has always been my dream to own a property in this wonderful part of the world. My main interests are walking, mountaineering, and boating, all of which can be easily accommodated from a base in Chatel. I have always loved skiing, and my children confess they are moderately impressed with my technique, praise indeed. I live close to Luton airport, and have got to know the Luton to Geneva flight well as a result - it is quicker to get to Chatel from Luton than to get to other mountain areas in the UK such as the Lake District, Snowdonia or the Scottish Highlands.

Why Andrew Beale chose Châtel
Chatel is a fantastic place to be, with Switzerland less than a five minute drive away, but with prices much more reasonable on the French size of the border (restaurants, ski passes etc). The Portes du Soleil is one of the biggest interlinked ski domaines in the world with 650kms of pistes, and Chatel is at the heart of the area, easy to reach Morzine, Avoriaz, Champery, Les Gets, by ski, and all in the day. Spring, Summer and Autumn are equally lovely seasons with lots of walking directly from the chalet, and a multitude of activities to do in the valley, from white water rafting, to tennis, rock climbing to swimming, mountain biking to paragliding.
What makes this Apartment unique
This particular apartment is in Petit Chatel the sunniest part of Chatel, with private parking, a beautifully quiet location right next to a mountain stream, walking paths direct from the front door, and 200m (walking distance) from the nearest chairlift up to the Swiss border. Free wifi is not seen everywhere in Chatel.
100% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date. 50% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.
Clean, functional and great location close to bus stop. Thank you.
Great property in a great town. Clean and great to have a dishwasher, washing machine and wifi. Close to bus stop to all the ski areas and an easy walk to the chair lift. Hope to go again.
Thank you so much for your terrific review !
I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay in Chatel, and it would be great to welcome you back either in the summer time or next winter !
Small but perfectly formed!
The engagement with the owner from booking and throughout our stay was excellent. The apartment isn’t large, but is really comfortable and very thoughtfully furnished to make use of every bit of space. Handy location, perfect for a short family break and really easy access to Chatel and the ski areas. Highly recommend.
Thank you for your lovely review of Apartment 16 in Le Yeti 6, Chatel.
I am so glad you enjoyed a last minute new year's break in beautiful Chatel, and were able to get out boarding even the snow hasn't been at its best over the Christmas and New Year period.
Loads more snow coming this week (wk comm 7.1.19), thank you again for your brilliant review, and do come again some time !

Thank you James, a great pleasure to host you, and to chat about options for purchasing a chalet or apartment in beautiful Chatel.
What a crazy season in this lovely part of the world, warm as anything in early April, now freezing and snowy again in early May !
Thank you for your encouraging review.
We had a fantastic week skiing and the apartment was well placed to get to the slopes. Very nicely furnished and well equipped we would recommend it to friends and family and Andrew was so helpful with any information that we needed thank you so much.
It was such a pleasure to welcome you to Chatel, and I am delighted you had a great week of skiing despite weather which wasn't always perfect.
Do come again to lovely Chatel again some time - there is so much here to see and do, at any time of year !
"Generations of excellence since 1769"
I stayed in this lovely apartment for a few days during the October half-term. It is spotlessly clean, well maintained and has all the amenities needed after a days exploring or skiing. It is in a wonderful location and the balcony boasts fantastic views.
I would not hesitate to recommend this property. All in all, a very enjoyable few days!
The Rhone / French Alps / Haute-Savoie region
The French Alps is a glorious area with something for everyone in all four seasons.
In winter, the weather is often stable with bright blue skies, crisp snow, and some of the best skiing conditions in the world. In addition, the local foods (Tartiflette, Fondue etc) are warming and delicious in the dozens of restaurants up high and in the resorts.
The Portes du Soleil has over 650kms of pistes interlinked making it the largest ski region in Europe - no two days need be the same with such a choice of places to go to.
In spring, summer and autumn, the character of this Alpine area changes - the animals come out of the barns, the area becomes quieter, and yet there is still a multitude of activities such as white water rafting, mountain walking and biking, swimming and tennis, summer luge and Fantasticable, horse riding, golf and mini golf, canyoning and fishing.
Lake Geneva is less than 30 minutes away, with trips across the lake to Lausanne, Vevey and Montreux, while the Valais is just across the border from Chatel at Morgins, some three minutes away, with access to other world renowned winter and summer resorts such as Verbier, Crans-Montana, Zermatt and Saas Fee.
The Chatel area
Chatel is the most Swiss of the French mountain resorts, with beautiful mountain chalets and farms typical of the Abondance valley.
It is as lively as you want it to be - in the village are all the amenities one could wish for, including banks, restaurants, Intermarche supermarket, swimming pools, tennis courts, mountain bike and walking trails, winter ski lifts, summer chair lifts, nightclubs, bars, doctors and dentists, cinemas, bowling, free shuttle buses and all kinds of gift and sports shops.
However the apartment is located in Petit Chatel, 1.5kms outside the centre and a quick free bus ride into the centre. Petit Chatel is the sunniest part of Chatel - much of the resort becomes shaded in the winter afternoons, but the sun carries on all day in Petit Chatel which is a bonus. It is also quieter and very easy to park in Petit Chatel.
