This Charming village cottage is approached by an ancient cobbled lane at the end of a cul-de-sac. It nestles just below the centre of the village overlooking the orchards. A short walk up the lane past the ancient washing place and the town hall brings you to the Plaza.
Behind the house, beyond the gardens, are the woods and a Torrente - or stream, there are many species of birds living there including escapee parrots and a pair of Nightingales.
The house consists of an open plan living/dining and kitchen leading, through French doors, onto a secret walled garden, perfect for breakfast. There is also a cosy cave at the back of this little garden, to escape to in the heat of the summer.
Another set of French doors lead out of the living room area, down four steps, to the larger secluded garden and swimming pool. Two nicely appointed bedrooms with bathrooms lead onto the pool area through French doors.
For al fresco dining a table is set under the boughs of a lovely grape vine by the pool, with total shade in the summer. There is also an outside shower by the pool.
Two magnificent cypress trees stand sentinel over the gardens which form an arch through to a charming patio which overlooks the river with wonderful mountain views. The owners are very keen gardeners and there is an abundance of plants and flowers in addition to lemon, orange and olive trees.
The whole property is very quiet and tranquil with no traffic or immediate neighbours, except a few chickens.
The gentle twittering of the birds in the woods around the torrent create a rural atmosphere.
The main square or Plaza is only 2 minutes' walk from the property, the 4 bars and 6 restaurants, all very central. A bakery, small supermarket, pharmacy and two boutiques cluster around the square. There is a tennis court in the village and about 2 km away a sports centre with tennis, paddle tennis and Olympic size pool.
The port of Soller is about 5 km with sandy beaches, a marina, where one can rent a boat, or take trips up the fabulous mountain coast, many good restaurants and beach facilities to tempt all ages. Car, scooter and bicycle hire are also available. The Tramuntana mountains of this region are quite magnificent and offer great walking. The coastline with its delightful coves and calas are still completely unspoilt. There are many beach activities and excellent dining.
There are some marvellous things to explore in Mallorca and don't be put off by reports of Magaluf and Arenal, all distant from this area.
It is possible to drive down to the end of Calle Alba to drop off luggage and groceries.

We are Andrew Wood, a film producer, and Judy Wood a Montessori teacher. We fell in love with Fornalutx and were even married here 35 years ago. We have owned a village house and holidayed with our children here ever since. We have decided to split our time between Fornalutx and Australia, Judy's homeland.
Judy Wood purchased this cottage in 2012
We wanted a larger house with a garden and pool and when this became available we were delighted. It has always been a cosy house and now that it is our home we hope you will agree it has been tastefully renovated. It is so tranquil and although only a stone's throw from the village square, shops and restaurants, it is like living in the country. Also we have a very special friend who lives in the house opposite.
Reflections of the sunset on the mountains in the pool. The birds and the wind rustling in the woods at the end of the garden.
A great recommendation from my sister Alice. Gorgeous house, beautiful gardens and very sweet sounds at night. By day, the sheep, peacock cries, next door chickens, birdsong made us feel right at home. For the next visitors, some tips: restaurant on left on way up out of the village was our best meal - the little place a little further up on right (purple placemats) also v.good. Tram from Soller to the port although pricey @ €6pp one way (incl. kids) worth it especially for kids, and will give you glimpses of ordinary life as you pass people's homes and gardens. The marked path from here to Biniaraix is worth doing, about an hour each way. We left our inflatable 'mattress' floater here for you - ENJOY. We loved this place.
We love this house , the village and surrounding area. The house has everything you would want for a family with a 12year old boy - pool and wifi !! You can walk out of any of the bedrooms straight into the garden and pool. The facilities are perfect and we can relax as soon as we arrive. We love the garden and the views are simply stunning. The village shop has greatly improved since our last visit with a great choice of fresh fruit and veg ( and very reasonable priced). Judy is super to deal with and nothing is a problem - we were delighted to find on arrival a large inflatable ring in the pool which was great fun. If you are looking for a peaceful holiday in a lovely home and where you can walk along the mountain paths , explore the village and relax in beautiful surroundings then we would recommend S'hortet ... we love it and plan to return next year.
Everything about S'Hortet was as described and as you can see in the pictures. Such a tranquil place to spend our holiday yet only a short walk to the picturesque centre of Fornalutx. Judy was excellent at responding to our initial queries and indeed when we accidentally left something behind was more than happy to arrange its safe return. The kind of care and attention that makes you feel more than just another guest! Fornalutx itself is also a beautiful place to be based from where you can easily visit so many other stunning locations. All in all one of our most memorable holidays and I am sure we will return.
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this gorgeous house. The owner dealt with our enquiries quickly and efficiently and provided all the information we needed. The house itself was clean and well equipped with everything required for a relaxing break. They kindly left us a bottle of wine and some homemade jam. The garden is stunning with beautiful flowers, fruit trees and a pool which was an ideal size for the children to have fun in. The views of the mountains from the garden are amazing. Not only is this an ideal property but the location is perfect too. Fornalutx is a lovely, peaceful village yet it also has great restaurants, a pharmacy and a well-stocked supermarket all within 5 minutes walk from the house. We felt really lucky to have spent just a week here and would thoroughly recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay in a beautiful home in a stunning location.
We had a wonderful stay at S'Hortet in Fornalutx. The house is tucked away close to the village square and also very private so you get the best of the village whilst getting away from it all in the garden. A lovely house with everything you need for your stay, comfortable with all amenities. We are looking forward to staying again soon
A beautiful home away from home, the cottage had everything we could want or need, and was exactly as described. The back garden was beautiful and so peaceful at night - looking out over the mountains whilst enjoying a glass of wine was just perfect. We made good use of the pool, our 5 month old daughter also made use of the paddling pool (big pool was a bit cool!)
The village was quiet and welcoming and the local supermarket had everything we needed for our daily grocery shopping. The bakers served delicious bread and pastries, and the village square hosted a few friendly cafès and bars.
The whole holiday was simply perfect and we enjoyed every minute of our time spent at the cottage!
We had a truly wonderful holiday in S'Hortet! As a family of four, 2 teenage kids, we had all the space and resources that we could want. The house is comfortable with all modern amenities, whilst keeping it's true Mallorcian charm. Exactly as described! Fornalutx has plenty of restaurants and cafes, so walking out to eat, whilst taking in the gorgeous view is something none of us could tire of!
The village of Fornalutx - voted prettiest village in Spain - nestles on the slopes of the Puig Mayor mountain in the beautiful Soller Valley. Stunning mountain views, great hiking, and all summer activities within 15 minutes. There is excellent diving and snorkelling along the unspoilt coastline of the Tramuntana Mountains. There are many great restaurants in the port and a marina with boat hire available.
The town of Soller, 2kms down the road, is absolutely charming with a tram snaking its way through the main square to the Port of Soller. There is a wonderful Saturday morning market as well as a covered fish and produce market. There is also a classic small gauge train which runs through the mountains to Palma 4 times a day.
