Space 1,614 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

Situated on a wooded hillside in the heart of one of France's golden triangles

We invite you to stay in a luxury contemporary house, combined with magnificent stone-built 18th century tower - offering all the requirements for modern simple living.

Set in a tiny hamlet near the ancient village of Paunat with its 9th Century Abbey. The area is known as the golden triangle of the Dordogne due to its huge wealth of tourist attractions: castles, caves and caverns, pre-history, beautiful ancient villages, countryside walks, canoeing and hundreds of restaurants offering 'Perigourdin' delights.

The property consists of a large welcoming entrance hall (26m2), with original beamed ceiling, and antique furniture. Two steps down to a large south-west facing salon (32m2), complete with open chimney and lovely views overlooking an open (semi-tropical) terrace and infinity swimming pool.

The large kitchen and dining room (32m2), directly from the salon includes a large dining table, to seat six. Kitchen is fully equipped with electric double oven, combination microwave, gas hob, large American fridge-freezer (with filtered water & ice machine) and dish-washer.

A winding staircase from the hall leads you up to a large (24m2) bedroom with an original 'cathedral' beamed ceiling (6m high approx). A King-sized bed and two double wardrobes. Double doors lead to luxury granite tiled shower room, with Monsoon shower, WC, washbasin and heated towel rail.

A pair of double doors lead onto a magnificent private roof terrace (32m2) overlooking the entire hillside, the rear terraces and swimming pool. Ideal for breakfast, calm evening drinks or secluded sunbathing.

The ground floor entrance hall also leads through to a Cloakroom (WC and hand-basin), and a separate Utility Room with Washing Machine, Tumble Dryer, Ironing Board etc. A short corridor leads on to the large second, (ground floor) bedroom (30m2). Enjoying a King-sized bed, sofa, wardrobe and chest of drawers. Double doors lead to a sunny gravelled courtyard planted with an array of Mediterranean flora, including an ancient olive tree and stone fountain.

The bedroom's en-suite bathroom has bath (a tub), large walk-in shower, WC, washbasin and heated towel rail.

A gravelled path leads you from the olive tree terrace to the rear garden room, covered, but open to overlook the swimming pool it serves perfectly as a second salon, ideal to enjoy a shady drink or afternoon read. A fully equipped covered outdoor kitchen, complete with barbecue, gas hob, sink , dishwasher and fridge, offers the perfect, easy solution to al-fresco dining on the shaded bamboo terrace situated within a few steps of the pool.

The south-facing heated infinity pool (20 May-22Sept 2017) overlooks the beautiful oak valley, and includes a large terrace for sunbathing. A HiFi and hidden speakers enable you to enjoy music from your ipod. There is also a warm outdoor shower , just to complete the magic !

(Pool Dimensions: 6m x 5m - 1.5m depth constant heated 28degrees between 20th May-22nd September 2017. ) We believe the pool is not suited for families with very young children (2-8 years old), but babies are accepted.

The garden to the north, accessed from the salon, offers a shady pergola and formal canal with fountain. The property has ample parking with two separate parking areas for 4+ cars and is situated on the edge of a small hamlet of six houses.

A real gem!

  • 5 of 5

This property is amazing. A real home from home. Beautiful interiors, very clean and an idyllic setting. Adrian very helpful and ensures that this property is as advertised. Cannot recommend highly enough. Paunat is a lovely village with amazing abbey and a restaurant. Ideal base to explore the many beautiful medieval towns & villages. Weather was superb so also enjoyed using the pool and outdoor areas. Just perfect.

Beautiful home in a lovely part of the world

  • 5 of 5

Can't say much more than the other reviewers. This place is stunning. Beautiful old property that has been renovated to a very high standard with all the mod cons. Bedrooms, living spaces, kitchen and bathrooms are all well appointed and clean. It was so peaceful as you're surrounded by woodland and it's a great place to either explore the area or just to sit and relax around the pool. Adrian is a lovely guy and very proud of his home and every possible detail has been well thought out. Would recommend this place to anyone and we are already thinking about when we can return.

A special place

  • 5 of 5

We have recently returned from a very relaxing stay at Le Vezou - despite being unlucky with the weather! We were hugely relieved that the house was so comfortable as we spent some time inside due to the rain. The outdoor salon was perfect as despite bad weather we could be outside enjoying the views. Everything about the house was as described, better even, we were not disappointed. The house is very tastefully decorated, everything has been very so well thought out. The spacious kitchen is even better than the pictures and there are no pictures of the living area and entrance hall but both are lovely. Beds were extremely comfortable which from experience is not always the case when renting in France! Everything was spotlessly clean and well maintained. Even the planting in the garden had been well thought out - the sounds of the bamboo in the outside dining area and also the smell of lavender and herbs as you approach the front door are fabulous! There is also the relaxing sound of water where ever you are in the garden - the sound of the fountain while having coffee and watching the woodpeckers in the oak from the roof terrace in the morning or just the sound of the pool. The terrace offers both dappled shade and sun so it was perfect for the whole family. The outdoor kitchen is great - brilliant to have a fridge and it was great to be able to play music so easily if we wanted to thanks to the dock positioned there too. Adrian was brilliant. During the worst of the weather he kindly brought round twenty films to entertain our children. We just asked in passing if there any coasters in the house (due to red wine fears!) and the next day a new set were delivered! Each time he came to the house though he did text to check it would be convenient, he is very discreet and considerate. There is plenty to do in the area, lovely villages, kayaking, high ropes and zip wires and some beautiful chateaux and gardens but the house is so nice you could also do very little if you wanted! We did some runs and walks from the house and spotted deer. There are countless birds to watch as you are nestled in the trees and strangely no mosquitoes which was a bonus! Paunat is very pretty and easily walkable. It has an imposing abbey and just one restaurant which is worth a visit but book ahead (fabulous setting, great service and food ok/v good). There was also a night market in the village. We would happily recommend this house, we had a great stay!

Dordogne's Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay at Le Vezou, and is just as wonderful and special as the first time. We wanted to keep it a secret, but something as delightful as this needs to be enjoyed by many.

Adrian who renovated the property with his partner and now manages the rentals has done a fantastic job of providing a charming Perigord home with all the mod cons. The star of the show is the amazing heated infinity swimming pool and outside covered entertaining area which incorporates a very well equipped kitchen for those al fresco meals which we so enjoyed, and plenty of seating for those cool off moments and sun downers.

There are two very pretty bedrooms with en-suites, great powerful showers in both.

Sitting room is very cosy with large SAT TV, fab kitchen with everything you need to cook the wonderful food from the local markets. dining table for 8 people.

There are so many wonderful touches around the place which makes it feel like home, artwork, candles, lamps etc. We both felt so sad leaving this enchanting home with its enormous gardens where all you could hear and see was the local wildlife (and the odd neighbour)!!

Le Vezou is a superbly kept and managed holiday property and is ideally located for the surrounding villages and towns, with a few good restaurants nearby should you be able to tear yourself away. We cannot wait to go back.

Périgord is referred to as the ‘Land of 1001 Castles’. The construction of castles in the Dordogne Valley began in the 11th and 12th centuries and most were later enhanced during the Hundred Years’ War between the kingdoms of France and England. The other river valley in the region, the Vezere, is the birthplace of mankind, with a wealth of prehistoric caves, with sculptures and paintings including the world famous 'Lascaux'.

To the south beautiful medieval fortified (bastide) towns with markets squares, such as Monpazier. The region is also world famous for its production of Truffles and Foie Gras.
