We are located just 200 metres from Aldea Beach at Manilva just off the A-7 coastal road about halfway between Gibraltar and Marbella. We are a 60 minute drive from Malaga airport and a 20 minute drive from Gibraltar airport.
Alboran Hills offers the visiting bird watcher a great base and is the perfect location for any bird enthusiast to stay. We are perfectly positioned on the migratory route for birds migrating to Western Europe in the spring and back to Africa in the autumn via the Strait of Gibraltar. Many birds have been observed at close range flying over the complex at Alboran Hills.
Alboran Hills is located within the municipality of Manilva which also has a town of the same name. The town of Manilva is split into two parts, the coastal resort and the charming white washed sleepy village located just 3 kilometres up the hill from the coast.
The village itself is bordered by a wonderful vineyard of Moscatel Grapes, which are mainly used for making sweet wine.
Down on the coastal resort, Manilva has managed to retain its Andalusian character by opting out of excessive development.
Although Manilva was not acknowledged as a municipality in its own right until the 16th Century, it has a rich and diverse history dating back to Roman times of which there is still evidence.
One of the main structures which remain is the Hedonia Roman Baths. Dating from the 1st Century BC it is rumoured that the mighty Julius Caesar himself regularly took to the waters and cured himself of a skin complaint during his time as acting governor in Southern Spain.
The Roman baths are located in La Hedionda valley just behind Manilva and are well worth a visit.
The municipality of Manilva is divided into four distinct areas. Castillo de la Duquesa, Puerto de la Duquesa, San Luis de Sabinillas and the town of Manilva itself.
Alboran Hills is located directly adjacent to the entrance to Aldea Beach. It’s a very quiet beach with not much to do. But Aldea Beach is much talked about because it is the location for the famous Floria Beach Bar. It is open all year round for food and drinks.
Castillo Beach is located between Aldea Beach and Puerto de la Duquesa. It is only a 10 minute walk from Alboran Hills. It’s a great family beach with a child’s play area, volley ball nets and safe shallow waters. Parents can keep an eye on the children from the sun loungers available for rent at the nearby beach bars.
Your day at the beach can be rounded off with a short stroll into the port of Duquesa for a bite to eat or a drink in one of its many bars and restaurants.
Castillo de la Duquesa
Known locally as Castillo. This coastal village is only a 10 minute walk from Alboran Hills. It was during the Roman period that Castillo first enjoyed prominence as it was the site of a thriving fish processing industry, which exported fish products back to Rome. Remains of the factory, a villa and bathhouse can be found today in Castillo and are open to visitors. Castillo also has a selection of bars and restaurants.
Puerto de la Duquesa
Known locally as Duquesa. This busy sailing port is only a 10 minute walk from Castillo. Sit outside one of the many international restaurants and bars, sip your wine and enjoy the spectacular view over the marina. Here you will find staff that prides themselves on giving not only a high standard of service but producing the type of cuisine that will bring you back time and time again. Also at Duquesa there are banks, shops, a post office, hairdressers, a health club and many small businesses.
San Luis de Sabinillas
Known locally as Sabinillas. Duquesa´s closest neighbour is the fishing village of Sabinillas. For years this sleepy enclave has remained untouched by tourism and has followed much the same pace of life as it did years ago, however over the last few years the town has been experiencing a bit of a transformation.
The walk from Duquesa to Sabinillas is a very pleasant one, along the seafront walkway which extends along the entire town.
Eight miles inland from the Manilva coast is the white village of Casares. Here you will enjoy clear mountain air and a good selection of bars and restaurants offering local fare as well as some very typical Spanish village shops which serve the local community well.
Casares forms an important part in the catalogue of white villages of Málaga. Set on the mountain over two hills and their corresponding valley, Caseras is beautifully Spanish and in 1978 was declared to be a Historical-Artistical Complex.
In the highest part of the town there are three outstanding architectural elements. The ruins of its Arabic Fort, the Cemetery, and the 16th Century Parish Church of La Encarnación.
Alboran Hills is located within an area with a high density of superb golf courses. Almenara, Alcaidesa, Doña Julia, Estepona, Finca Cortesin, La Canada, La Reserva, San Roque, Sotogrande, Valderrama, and El Paraiso are all very close.
But the closest is Duquesa Golf Club which is only a 2 minute drive away from Alboran Hills. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Duquesa Golf Club has some wonderful Mediterranean views out to North Africa and Gibraltar.
It is probably the most complete club on the coast offering tennis, swimming pool, squash, and a gym. There is also an excellent bar and restaurant.
Camping La Bella Vista
Alboran Hills is located just a 15 minute walk from Camping La Bella Vista.
So if you want to be close to the camp-site but far enough away enjoying an air conditioned apartment, then we are ideally located.
Due to new Spanish laws our swimming pool is open from June to September inclusive.
This is my wife Lisa relaxing at the Floria Bar on Aldea Beach.
Joe Ashton purchased this apartment in 2006
We love this area of Spain because it is still very Spanish. We go to the apartment to relax in the sunshine and walk along the beach.
There are many Spanish owners on our quiet complex of apartments. It has a very European feel which we enjoy.
excellent value for money. apartment has everything required for a relaxing break. located on a quiet complex but near enough to shopping and night life if required. would definitely recommend it.
We booked this apartment, for a month of sun and relaxation, in Sept 15. What initially attracted us to Joes' apartment, was the pictures; they presented a modern, comfortable space with a well equipped kitchen. The added extra(for my other half) was the smart TV and free WIFI. We felt even more at ease with our choice, when we emailed the owner, Joe. Joe was friendly, approachable and informative. When we finally arrived for our long awaited holiday, the key holder, Ranjan, greeted us at the complex gates. He showed us to our carpark space and then a lift to the apartment. The apartment was perfect for us! It provided everything we needed and more. The furniture is modern, clean, and in good condition. The apartment also has an extremely efficient air con system. The balcony is spacious, with lots of space to chill with a glass, or, two, of wine!! (maybe that's just us..lol). The beach is a 5 min walk. Duquesa Port - there you will find lots of bars/restaurants and is only a 25 min walk along the promenade, or, a 5min drive. Overall, the apartment in Aldea Beach, is perfect, lovely, safe, secure with lovely owners.
Kate and Marco, UK.
The apartment was very clean and provided everything we needed. The grounds are well cared for, and we felt very secure with our 4 children inside the gated community. As there were mostly families there, there was no loud parties or noise late in the evenings. We loved the marina and night life there. The food at the Floria beach bar was some of the best we had at very reasonable prices. We also enjoyed some fun entertainment there as well. Gibraltar was a great day trip, and we liked it so much we actually went twice. Joe was great in recommending different activities and very prompt in replying when I contacted him. We would love to go back again as this vacation met all our family's needs for fun, relaxation and adventure.
Wow , what can we say! The apartment was the best we have ever stayed in with every little detail thought of down to the homely throws in the living room and the well equipped kitchen. We loved to sit on the balcony at night and enjoy the peace and quiet. The two bathrooms were a big hit especially for a family of four. The location was perfect for us we could walk to the beach and sample the delights of floria bar whilst the children played and the sun set in front of us. We were close enough to walk to puerto duquesa where we enjoyed some nice evenings.
Gibraltor is so close and is definitely worth a visit.
We will be returning again to apartment as we still have lots more to explore and the accommodation was perfect for us all.
Thank you for letting us stay can't wait to come back.
