Welcome to Big Buck Retreat!
Spring in The North Georgia Mountains is fun for everyone!
As owners of this peaceful getaway, we believe in making our home an affordable family getaway. Our rate of $120 a night (less if a week or more) plus a $85 makes our home a wise choice for families.
Escape to the gorgeous North Georgia Mountains to a relaxed, very private environment, situated 15-20 minutes from shopping and recreation in the quaint little town of Ellijay, Georgia. Just an hour and a half drive from metro Atlanta, Chattanooga and the Tennessee-North Carolina border is our elegant mountain top retreat, professionally decorated, furnished with top of the line furniture and linens and enhanced with all the amenities of home.
The 180 degree view from the back porch and patio is simply breathtaking. Overlooking the Chattahoochee National Forest and Carters Lake, this tranquil environment is the perfect spot to relax and recharge. Our 3 bedroom home (Master on Main, Queen and 2 Bunk Beds on lower level) is up on top of Big Buck mountain with lots of privacy and even a flat backyard for horse shoes and bocce, not to mention evenings spent around the stacked stone firepit. It is a home to relax, unplug and unwind. At the bottom of the mountain there is a stocked fishing pond too. It is a home to make some family memories. Check out our REVIEWS!!
There is so much fun to be had in Ellijay or "LJ" as we call it! We love apple picking (Red Apple Barn is our fav), going to the pumpkin farm and checking out all the Fall festivals. Carters Lake is nearby as are many areas for hiking, apple picking, canoeing, rafting, mountain biking, gem mining, antiquing and more!
We are pleased to be able to rent our family getaway to you. My husband and I and our two girls love this home and we are told you can feel that when you walk in the door. It is a well appointed, stocked and decorated home that we have tried our best to make it a nice place for other families to relax. Lots of games, art supplies and kids videos are also available for your use.

'so hows it going?...the answer 9 out of 10 times when someone asks you this question is 'busy'. Yes, life is busy and moves at an ever increasing frenetic pace. Except for life on Big Buck. Turn your inbox off and recharge for a stay at our retreat. The only 'beeps' you will here is the sound of your coffee machine alerting you to grab a cup of coffee and sit on the deck for awhile. We chose this home as it offered us a sense of peacefulness and relaxation that cant be beat. We arrive at the house on top of Big Buck, take a breath in and let the craziness and pace of the world take a back seat for a bit. The views are 180 degrees and endless. The amenities and decor of the home are top notch and we have tried to think of everything that would make your stay a special one.
When we first came up to the house, I was unsure about it. It was up a gravel road, past 'country' homes and made me question why we were even looking at it. That is, until we stepped onto the back porch and took one look at the view. I have traveled around the world and stayed at many beautiful properties with great views. This peaceful view of the mountains and carters lake remains one of my favorite. As a professed 'mountain' girl (I like the ocean too but 'all that sand' is not my thing) the view of our home is truly soul soothing. We hope you will love it too!
From guest book..."we are back! Just a little over two years after our first visit to your big butt cabin, the beat family came back for our third stay this time with my husband's parents and are almost 9-month-old baby boy! God is so good! Our son Miles slept great in our pack and play and he thoroughly enjoyed crawling, standing and taking steps all over the house. We went to Mercy a orchards, one of our honeymoon spot three years ago and just soaked and the cool mountain air. We sure did miss shadow and Joe, the Husky and great Dane dog friends who visit us daily on our last two trips. We didn't see them at all this time. The time of their parents was priceless as well. Thank you for opening your wonderful home! We are moving to Virginia Beach Virginia into weeks to live closer to my family, but we sure hope to make it back at least by annually to make more memories with our boy as he grows.
The house is huge and has everything you would need already. Wi-fi would be a great addition so you could look up additional things to do or see while you're in the area. Of course the view is amazing. We encountered one hiccup when we first arrived but the owners took care of it and rest of our stay was smooth. As others have stated in their review, the drive up is eventful. I would say that driving your daily average sedan is not what you want to do. Really should have a truck or 4 wheel drive and excellent brakes! For this reason alone I did not give 5 stars. And never ever get there after dark! I will say that the drive up and down is something we will never forget as well as the stunning view!
Heather was nice enough to allow us to postpone our stay planned Nov. 22 - 29, 2016 to April 4 - 10, 2017 because of fires and smoke in N. GA during our planned stay and concerns that smoke would have exacerbated my COPD. We are looking forward to enjoying our stay in April.

Our family of four went with another family to relax for two nights. It was beautiful! The view was great. The house was stocked. The best part though was reading a book on the hammock. Our kids loved the yard and we had an awesome fire at night. Highly recommend!!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The view is incredible and the home is lovely- spacious, bright & airy with a well stocked kitchen. We utilized the beautiful fireplace & the outdoor fire pit and left some wood for the next guests. The drive up is tricky, even with the turn by turn instructions. The roads are not well marked (are we on Brushy Top or did we turn off mistakenly somewhere??) I would suggest using the co-ordinates on the small topographical maps & plug those into your google maps to help stay on track. Also, a 4 wheel drive is a must IMHO.
Getting to the house was a bit scary but once you get there, the home is beautiful and the views are amazing. We brought the pups and it was a great location for dogs. No close neighbors and for sure not a lot of traffic on the road. WiFi would have been nice, but we had cell service so we didn't miss it. The downstairs was great for watching football on Saturday.
What a wonderful spot to stay! The view is amazing! We spent so much time on the lovely deck. This beautiful place was perfect for our family of eight. Plenty of room and we never felt crowded. Heather went over and above to get this ready for us. We appreciate all she did! Quiet, relaxing, and yet close to so many interesting places. It was a blessing for us to stay here!
