Relaxing week in perfect spot

  • 5 of 5

We , including our 2 kids (11,8) had an amazing, relaxing time in this beautifully restored , fully equipped , quiet cave house. Away from the tourist craziness of Fira but still in a little village with few restaurants and shops and wonderful, helpful owners nearby we had a perfect vacation, went to beaches every day, awesome catamaran sunset trips and relaxing nights on the deck ! Would love to come again

We had a fabulous week staying at Alba Lily. The owners Christine and Mark provided the transfers to and from the airport which was a lovely touch and extremely helpful.

When we arrived they had left a welcome pack for us of food, wine and beer which was a lovely surprise and very thoughtful.

The accommodation is beautiful, very well designed, impeccably clean and has everything that you could need. The decor and furnishings are very tasteful and add to the aesthetic pleasure of the property. There are many power points throughout the property and outside, including on the roof terrace which was very useful. The internet works fine in the main area of the property and just outside of the entrance.

Christine and Mark were very helpful being available for any questions or advice that we required.

We tried most if not all of the restaurants in the village and all were good, Raki had most of our custom, we enjoyed the food and the relaxed atmosphere there.

There are a few small local mini markets in the village but the bakery, a couple of hundred meters from the property has most essential food items that you could need.

The bus stop is next to the bakery and from here you can get to pretty much anywhere on the island, the buses are modern coach type and are air conditioned. Prices are reasonable at approx 3-4 euros to Thira or Perissa, a Taxi to Thira is approx 15 Euros from the bakery.

We had a wonderful time and wished that we had booked for longer, we recommend Alba Lily to anyone thinking of visiting Santorini.

We loved our time at Alby Lily!

  • 5 of 5

We can't say enough great things about our little homeaway from home on Santorini! Christine and Mark are superb hosts! The home is really amazing---every little detail is perfect. We are historic architecture enthusiasts and were amazed by their restoration of this property. It was perfect for our two groups--there are 2 separate areas so everyone has their privacy.

The village of Megalochori is the best on the island---it's away from the touristy hullabaloo of Oia and Fira---but you can get there by car in a few minutes if you want to experience that part of the island. We preferred to stay away from the tourist buses so this was perfect for us.

All of the recommendations from Christine and Mark were perfect---we really fell in love with this little town! We loved Feggera and Raki restaurants and all of the shops in the village. There's an amazing bakery at the top of the road where you can get provisions---and they are open til midnight if you need one of the best baklavas on the island.

Christine helped us with a rental car that was delivered to the village on the morning after we arrived--and this was perfect! They also left us wine, beer, and a fridge that was stocked with things for snacks so we didn't have to run out on our first night---but you can totally go to a great dinner in town!

We absolutely loved Greece---if you are reading this then you are obviously thinking about a trip. Do it! It's an amazing country and there is so much to see--beyond the islands! We had 3 weeks including a week in Alba Lily and loved every second of it. Great food, easy travel, amazing people, history, weather....what more could you want!

Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week at Alba Lily. The traditional cave house is an absolute delight, and spotlessly clean. Mark and Christine are great hosts and only too happy to advise and support. We particularly enjoyed feggera and Raki restaurants in the village. Our advice would be too avoid sunset at Oia St all costs, it's just as good from just outside of Megalochori, just a short walk to watch it in peace rather than the bun fight there followed by a long wait for all the buses to get moving to ferry hundreds of people always! Do beautiful Oia in the morning! We managed well without a car, the buses are great, cheap, and air conditioned if a little crowded at peak times. The conductors shout out every stop to ensure you get off at the correct place! Jealous of anyone booked in yet to go. Megalochori is a great base for a peaceful holiday on Santorini with excellent access to everything you want to do and see.

Alba Lily certainly lives up to its lovely name.

  • 5 of 5

We were so impressed with everything about Alba Lily. The photos do not do it justice. The house was in a lovely typical village making you feel as you were living like the locals. The decor and cleanliness of the house deserve the five star rating. The house was also very well equipped. The village albeit small had a good selection of places to eat and everyone was very friendly. The owners of Alba Lily were also excellent. Transferring from and to the airport was a real bonus. They were friendly and helpful with local information, unobtrusive but on hand for any questions or issues. We can thoroughly recommend Alba Lily if you are looking for a peaceful location with easy access to any part of the island. We would not hesitate to return.

The perfect hideaway on Santorini

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned after a wonderful holiday at Alba Lily which is a perfect retreat on the beautiful Island of Santorini.

Christine and Mark were the perfect hosts. All the arrangements prior to our visit were very smooth and response times were excellent. Christine answered all queries promptly and even got us a good deal on a hire car for the week!

Mark was waiting for us when we arrived and also returned us safely to the airport at the end of our stay even though both flights were very late at night.

Alba Lily is just as shown on the website, you will be amazed at the beauty of the house and the superb standard of the accommodation which Mark and Christine have created for their guests.

There are lots of special touches provided on arrival such as the fresh bread, food and wine in the fridge and a starter pack of water so you can settle in without worrying about shopping.

The village is quiet and has several places to eat which means you could stay there and not worry about going further afield but we enjoyed having the car to visit all the places you see in the guidebooks. Mark and Christine have provided a good list of places to eat ( our favourite was Visanto in Perissa which served fantastic Indian and Thai food) they also can provide you with local knowledge tips eg go to Santo Wines to watch the sunset over the Caldera.

This is definitely the best house we have stayed in for a relaxing holiday and we would fully recommend a stay here.

Megalochori is one of the most peaceful and traditional villages on the island of Santorini. The property is a short walk to the village square where there are three excellent restaurants offering Greek and international food. You can't fail to notice the large number of wine tasting places here and indeed this village is at the heart of the island's wine making industry. Many of the bigger facilities, like Boutari, are on the village's outskirts among the vineyards.
