Bedrooms with individual air conditioning - heated pool, electric cover for the pool. These two aspects really put this Villa on the map, as it is the ONLY in this area to have all these amenities.
Villa Longo was beautiful, very tastefully and expensively appointed. The pool was wonderful, and my son and 4 year old grandson spent hours in it every day. We decided to pay for pool heating, and it was well worth it, as the first half of the week was a little cool. The kitchen equipment was way better than one would normally expect in a rental home. It's obvious this is a home which is lived in and loved. A microwave would have been useful, for example for quick heating of a tetchy baby's milk, but that's a minor detail. The house is up in the hills, and access is via some pretty tiny, winding and potholed roads, but the quiet and surroundings once there are half the charm. Although the local pizzeria is technically within walking distance, coming back up that hill at night with a pushchair was not something we fancied! But they do a good takeaway.
Sophia, who manages the villa, was extremely helpful, always quick with a reply to any query, and ready to give tips. What actually would have enhanced our stay would have been a house book giving details such as markets, appliance instructions, opening times etc, as questions arise as one goes along, and it would be useful to be able to refer to this as one doesn't want to keep texting or phoning Sophia every time there's a query - as one often forgets what she's told you at the beginning!
All in all, a wonderful place, and we hope to come back at some time in a year or two.
This is a wonderful house. It is furnished and looked after to an exceptionally high standard, and it is a pleasure to stay in. The pool is beautiful, and the house is very secluded. Sophia, the property manager, makes a huge difference as well. We travelled with a young baby, and she went beyond our expectations to provide everything we needed to make the trip easy. I recommend this house without any reservations.
We had a wonderful stay at Villa Longo. The villa is beautifully decorated, extremely comfortable and full of all the amenities needed for a family of four. The office area came in handy a few days when I had to do some business calls and check email. The kitchen is full of top of the line cooking appliances and well suited my professional chef husband. The pool was a favorite for our kids as well as the foosball and ping pong tables. We will definitely return!
We had a delightful week at Villa Longo. The villa, garden and swimming pool are all beautifully maintained. The kitchen is very well equipped and the beds/linen and were excellent quality. The villa was built to live in and it feels like a home. The property owner cooked us a celebratory dinner which was delightful. It's a short drive to the town of Camaiore which has some lovely delicatessens which sell fabulous fresh pasta. I would definitely recommend this villa.
We have rented several villas over the years through HomeAway; all have been fine. This one was phenomenal - better than the pictures, which is rare. The house was spacious, comfortable, beautifully renovated and maintained, and well furnished. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was a true gourmet kitchen. In addition, the house has three bedrooms (one with a dressing room and ensuite bathroom), two living/sitting rooms - one of which has a TV with English language satellite TV, and the other with Italian TV, a spacious dining room, as well as a separate office. There is AC in the bedrooms and wifi in part of the house.
The house was up a hill, surrounded by olive orchards and vineyards; while there were some houses nearby, the landscaping is well designed and no one close enough to see or bother us. There were nice views of the surrounding areas, and some lovely sunsets. Still, we were near enough to the town of Camaiore to have easy access to grocery stores, produce markets, butcher shops, and restaurants.
We chose to have the pool heated. I encourage anyone renting the house to consider doing so - it allowed us to swim well into the evening as well as during the day, and we really, really enjoyed it.
Camaiore is in a lovely area, in Northern/Western Tuscany. The countryside is beautiful, and the house is well located, only five or six miles from Viareggio and Lido di Camaiore, both beach towns, about an hour from Florence, and half an hour from both Pisa and Lucca. It was a great place as a springboard for day trips. At the same time, we enjoyed several days lazing around the pool and relaxing.
The owner was lovely. She greeted us with a gorgeous bowl of fruit and a bottle of wine. One member of our party ran into an issue that required some assistance, and she went out of her way to help us. She had several good recommendations for places to go, etc. There are some cats on the property; we had some people with cat allergies but the owner took them away for us. You might ask ahead of time if you have similar issues.
All in all, a fantastic visit. I would definitely rent this place again, and recommend it to friends and family.
After months of searching for the right villa for our first Tuscany Holiday, we found this treasure. A little more expensive than what we had hoped for, but once we arrived and saw the standard, we were blown away (Global knives, nice furniture, large fridge, nice interior). I was skeptical about there not being any rental agreement and that the name of the account holder was not the web page. But everything was fine, and all my worries were for nothing.
Sophia (property manager and sister of the owner) met us at the agreed time and showed us the way to the house, which was not easy find as the street is not on the Tom Tom (gps) map. The Villa is renovated by the current owner who has recently moved to the UK, and you can see that this is someone’s home, not a worn out rental Villa. The Villa is packed with lovely details like antique tiles and model ships. It is also spacious. We had a need for a 4th bedroom, which was arranged for in the library/TV room at the ground floor. This worked very well. We brought our 8 months old baby and Sophia, had arranged for everything we needed (crib, chair, etc.).
We went for the heated pool. The weather was bad at the beginning of the week (19?C and rain) so we were happy about that choice. But if we would have had the heat that came at the end of our stay all week, then it would not have been necessary. The breeze from the mountains is nice, so it doesn’t get too hot near the Villa. There are also 2 BBQ’s in the garden that we used a couple of times.
The house is on a quiet hillside surrounded by olive groves and a great view both over the town and the surrounding mountains. It is only a short walk to nearest restaurant, which serves good food, but their English is absent or poor at the best. The streets from the restaurant to the Villa are dark at night, so I would recommend to drive, or at least bring a flashlight, if you are to walk. They also have take-away pizza.
Camaiore has plenty of small shops, restaurants and a supermarket. But much to our surprise, everything was closed on Sunday. We had to go to Lido the Camaiore to find a supermarket. That is a 20 min drive, but the beach there was fantastic and worth a visit. Camaiore is also close to Lucca and Pisa and other sights. We got to see the major sights, and still had the time to enjoy the pool in the afternoon.
We were blown away by the beauty of the house, the property, the place and location, and can definitely recommend it.
Camaiore is a small town with a vivid old centre, restaurants and shops. Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi with its famous beaches, Pietrasanta, a center for sculptors from the entire world, and the medieval town of Lucca can all be reached within 20 - 30 minutes by car. In the North-East, there is Garfagnana, a mountainous region with wonderful hiking trails, water and stalactite caves (Antro del Corchia). Florence, Chianti, San Gimignano, Siena, Maremma, Cinque Terre and Portofino can all be reached within 1 - 2 hours.
