Beautifully converted cottage in a peaceful countryside setting close to coast

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

Secluded high quality cottage near Lulworth Cove

Little Glebe was newly converted in 2012 to a very high specification, and has been designed to provide superb cosy country accommodation for either four adults or a family. Solid oak has been used throughout to give a luxurious feel alongside high quality furnishings and fittings. There is central heating throughout. The property has its own courtyard garden which ensures complete privacy from the main house. There is a barbecue, table and chairs.

On the ground floor a spacious hallway and boot room gives plenty of room for outdoor clothes and muddy boots. The boot room also houses a washing machine.

There are two double bedrooms downstairs, each with an en-suite bathroom. Bedroom One has a shower and Bedroom Two has a bath with shower over. We thought a bath would be welcome after long coastal and country walks or if you have small children.

Bedroom One has two singles that can be converted into a king size – just tell us which you prefer before your stay. Bedroom two has a double bed.

Both rooms have private garden views.

On the first floor you will find a large open plan room with character beams and French windows that open onto endless country views across the fields. There is a well equipped modern galley kitchen with a dishwasher, fridge, cooker and microwave, as well as a dining area. The far end provides a cosy living area with a gorgeous warming log burner and a large TV, DVD player and music centre. Bring your own music, films and books or feel free to choose from the library we provide.

Little Glebe is fully centrally heated. Cotton bed linen and large fluffy towels are provided.

About Sue Hyde

We are Peter and Sue Hyde. Sue runs a Bed and Breakfast business in Glebe House and also looks after guests in Little Glebe. Peter's family are local farmers who have lived and worked in this area for seven generations. Our son Will has recently joined the farm, managing the sheep dairy unit.

Sue Hyde purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Sue Hyde chose Winfrith Newburgh

Our lovely home in Winfrith Newburgh sits above the village in airy, secluded beech woods. We built Little Glebe to be a holiday home that could share this superb location, but also retain it's own sense of peace and privacy. Then we furnished it with soft coastal colours and natural oak throughout to make the inside feel really special!

What makes this cottage unique

Little Glebe is an 'upside down' house, with two cosy en suite bedroom downstairs. This enables visitors to enjoy sweeping views across the surrounding countryside from the upstairs French windows.

Our sheep, hens and dogs complete the delightful rural environment, and deer, foxes and badgers are regular, but shy nightime visitors.

Great Location & cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Little Gables. Location is ideal for walks around the area. Or you can drive to various seaside locations. The welcome pack and friendly welcome were lovely personal touches. The cottage was very warm and cosy. I would recommend

Fantastic, quiet stay

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our quiet week in Winfred Newburgh. The Little Glebe is a charming place to stay, well situated for exploring Dorset. The hosts were very welcoming, and even provided some basic supplies on arrival. Perfect location for quiet walks. We were very sad to leave.

Very well equipped, warm and cozy. Home from home. Welcoming hosts.

  • 5 of 5

Two en suite bedrooms made it the perfect accommodation for our requirements. Lovely views. Didn't need log fire as cottage always warm and cozy but nice to know it's there if needed. Ideal location for walking and also driving to nearby attractions. Welcome pack left by hosts a nice touch and much appreciated. Furnished to a high standard. Everything you need has been thought of.

Very beautiful cottage, excellent amenities and facilities.

  • 5 of 5

Very beautiful cottage, love the upsidedown layout. Both bedrooms were very comfortable especially with both having ensures. The kitchen had everything we needed and the lounge was lovely with the log burner and views across the countryside. Very friendly owners and friendly dogs.

Lovely quiet rural retreat

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is perfect for two adult couples. But mind your head if you're more than 5' 6" tall because the kitchen/lounge is in the loft. But this does give stunning views over the beautiful country scenery adjoining the property. The owners very friendly chickens came to say hello as soon as we arrived. There were very noisy rooks nesting in the trees all around the cottage but this just added to the general atmosphere of being close to nature.

The cottage is very well equipped. The cottage was so warm we never used the log burner but there was a full basket of logs provided had we needed them.

There was milk, tea bags, coffee, butter, biscuits and a loaf provided for us.

The were no dishwasher tablets but when we asked for some the owners were only too pleased to supply lots. :-)

Regarding the local pubs, there really aren't any that we felt happy to walk to from the cottage in the dark evenings I'm afraid and be warned that some don't open every day in the winter which includes March.

But we can highly recommend The Castle at West Lulworth which was really cosy and had an amazing selection of local ciders and very welcoming and friendly staff. There is a nice country walk from the cottage (2.7 miles) to get there if the weather is good. But not a good choice if its foggy or after dark.

We also ate at The Cove Inn at Lulworth Cove which had a really nice selection of fish dishes and a couple of vegetarian options but beware of the parking fees in Lulworth Cove. £9 per day or £4 for 3 hours.

Also The Blue Vinney at Puddletown had a great menu and lovely food. Its a lovely walk from Hardy's cottage through Puddletown Forest to get there.

The Smugglers Haunt as Osmington is a stunning place to visit and walk from.

Can't comment on the food here though as we only stopped for coffee.

The cottage has a fantastic selection of books for walking and things to do in Dorset.

The only thing to say that is very slightly negative is that the internet connection at Little Glebe can be a bit intermittent but some people might consider this to be a plus point. :-)

We had a great time and would highly recommend Little Glebe for a lovely relaxing holiday.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review - we're glad you enjoyed your stay in Little Glebe and thoroughly enjoyed meeting you all. This sort of feedback is really appreciated. Apologies that there were no dishwasher tablets - our mistake entirely, these are normally included. Our rooks are always a little bit more vocal than normal in March - it is the nest building season, but we find that the double glazing in all the windows shuts out any noise very effectively! Wi-fi is not strong in rural areas, but it works perfectly if you use devices near the router. We actually have a better strength signal than most locations in the village as we have invested in the super fast broadband package.

Car: recommended

Winfrith Newburgh is just two miles from Lulworth Cove on the stunning World Heritage Jurassic coastline and South West coast path. It is nine miles from the county town of Dorchester and 18 miles from the more bustling conurbations of Poole and Bournemouth. There is a friendly local post office/village store and three pubs nearby. If the weather’s good you may not get further than the local coastline and beaches, but then you’d miss out on other fabulous locations such as Corfe Castle, the Cerne Abbas Giant, the Tank Museum, Monkey World, the Blue Pool, Swanage Railway, Sherborne Abbey, Portland Bill and many others…
