Shearers Cottage is the perfect base for walking, cycling, touring or just relaxing by a log fire
The cottage was sympathetically created from an ancient stone farm building retaining many original features such as beamed ceilings and exposed stonework. It has a large entrance hall, leading to the open plan lounge area with a large wood-burning stove and a well-equipped farmhouse kitchen and a dining area with French doors onto the patio and wildlife gardens beyond. The cottage also has a private garden to the side.
Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms, 1 double and 1 twin and a bathroom with bath and shower.
All the cottages were refurbished in 2010 with English Oak floors and new bathrooms and all have gas central heating as well as large wood-burning stoves/open fires.
The cottages have been rated 4 STAR by Visit England (formerly English Tourist Board) and are maintained to a high standard.
Our self catering cottages have featured in Country Living Magazine's 'Great Escapes'. They are comfortable, well furnished and are maintained to the highest standards by the resident owners.
Each cottage was created from a range of ancient stone barns, a project which was voted 'the best barn conversion in the North of England'. All cottages have large wood burning stoves as well as gas central heating for that cosy night in by the fire.
The large informal gardens and pastures surrounding our holiday cottages are a haven for rabbits, badgers and red squirrels. They are host to dozens of species of migrant and resident birds including woodpeckers, tree creepers and nuthatches, whilst the Fells above us are home to skylarks, curlews, buzzards and peregrine falcons.
We were looking for some relaxing quiet time which is was we got. Everything we needed was available in the cottage.
A very well equipped cottage with all the comforts you could wish for. Despite the mild weather the log burner was a massive hit for cosy snuggled up evenings after the days adventures. We would highly recommend Shearers cottage and the owners welcome and helpfulness albeit just Ian as unfortunately we never had the opportunity to meet his wife due to us exploring and soaking the surrounding areas was warm friendly and informate. A truly beautiful cottage hosted by lovely people in an amazingly tranquil little haven.
The cottage was absolutely perfect, very tastefully furnished, well equipped and perfectly clean. Also spacious and comfortable. In a very quiet location, a sort of 'end of the world' (the road ends and the footpath leading to the hills starts right in front of the house). Also the garden was very nice with lots of hidden corners to enjoy the peace that is around - and our private part of the gardnen was much appreciated by our dog!
Our host Ian was very friendly and helpful, and the information provided about nearby places to visit we found useful. Really we couldn't ask for more for our perfect holidays. Thank you!
We stayed at Shearer's cottage for 7 nights and all i can say EXCELLENT , the cottage was ideal for walkers and situated in a quite location , all you could here at night were the sheep on the hills. Even the dog enjoyed herself. The cottage was fitted out to a high standard, home from home. Ian the owner popped around to say hi, he couldn't do enough to help us. we will definitely be back again. Thank you Ian for great relaxing week .....
