Lovely well equipped cottage and so quiet.
Perfect location and will be recommending to friends and family.
Excellent holiday home
We had the perfect holiday at Stables cottage. The property has everything you may need for your stay, very comfortable beds for a good sleep, a wood stove in the living room for extra cozy feel and a wonderful back garden, which unfortunatelly we couldn’t enjoy a lot as it rained every evening during our stay. The landlord Ian is always around to help if you need anything. The property is perfectly located to explore Eden Valley, North Penniens and Lake District. We were with two young kids who enjoyed the place very much, so we can recommend it both for families with kids and couples.
Delightful cottage for our New Year break.
This charming barn conversion is located in a quiet hamlet in deepest Cumbria, at the foot of Cross Fell. There were a couple of rainy days during our stay. One day we hired the private Tower House swimming pool at Melmerby for an hour of family fun. On the other we booked tickets for a matinee at the Alhambra cinema in Keswick. When the weather permitted we has a few walks: Cross Fell of course, a walk from Askham just the other side of the M6, and a short walk up Latrigg from Keswick. After each outing we looked forward to getting back to our cosy cottage. The cottage was thoughtfully decorated and provisioned. We even enjoyed the novelty of sawing our own logs for the fire, though this was not strictly required thanks to robust central heating. We saw red squirrels and rabbits in the garden and some large birds of prey nearby. I'd like to come back to see what this area is like in spring or summer.
Perfect Country Retreat!
Kirkland Cottages, specifically Stables, was exactly what we were looking for: a comfortable home-from-home in peaceful, beautiful surroundings.
The cottage was well-equipped & well-maintained, while Ian & Lesley were kind, helpful & considerate hosts.
We needed a spell of recuperation which was beautifully provided by the gorgeous countryside & peaceful gardens.
But there is plenty to do for the more active & adventurous, all close at hand with the Lakes only an hour away.
We enjoyed pottering around the local Eden Valley which is very pleasant & picturesque.
Would heartily recommend! In fact, have already passed on details to friends :-)
Lovely cottage, great location, friendly owners
We couldn't have had a nicer stay - great location for the kids with a big garden to explore, and a stream to paddle in
Property was great and provided an absolutely top quality environment
Set within beautiful scenery with a garden which was also beautiful, spacious and allowed our children plenty of room to play and wander freely. A lovely quiet, restful and private environment that promoted a relaxing holiday atmosphere. The cottage was spacious, of a very high standard, very clean and was beautifully furnished with more than adequate bedding, utensils etc. The only drawback was the poor wi-fi that was not accessible in the cottage but in the garden?? This had some impact on the use of our phones and ipads for the kids if it was later in the evening or the weather was wet. We also came accross information provided in a general information file about the cottage that we found to be very unusual and out of contex with our experience by requesting guests either clean the cottage themselves before leaving or leave money to pay towards the cleaning of the cottage??
Thank you for your kind review and I'm sorry you had a problem with our Wi-Fi.
Each of the cottages has it's own range extender, which boosts the signal into that cottage. When you search for a connection you will see that there are 5 of them and each has the name of the cottage after it. To get the best reception, you have to log onto the correct cottage which in your case would have been KIRKLANDNET/STABLES, and that would have given you a download speed of up to 35 Mb/s & an upload speed of around 12Mb/s. I suspect you were logged onto the cottage next door which would explain the lack of signal indoors. However, we are just next door so all you needed to do was ring the bell & I could have sorted it out for you. Ian
The Lake District Fells and panoramic views of the Eden Valley are the backdrop to our exclusive self catering holiday cottages. The cottages nestle in an area designated an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' the foothills of the North Pennines, home to some of the rarest plants and wildlife in Britain.
Cumbria and the Lake District is renowned for it's wild and stunning landscapes. There are beautiful lakes like Ullswater, Buttermere and Coniston to the south, with the lush Eden Valley and the rolling North Pennines as its eastern boundary.
A network of footpaths starts right outside your holiday cottage door. You can wander just 100 yds up the track to experience the tranquillity and freedom of the open Cumbrian fells (hills). The more energetic can make for the top of Cross Fell for spectacular views of the Eden Valley and the Lake District fells.
If you want to get away from it all, explore some amazing landscapes, do a few walks, visit some traditional pubs or just relax in front of an open fire, our cottages are just what you need.
The cottages are the perfect base for walkers, cyclists and motorists, exploring not only Cumbria and the Lake District National Park, but also the Yorkshire Dales, Northumbria, County Durham and the Scottish Borders.
