Peaceful honeymoon retreat
We absolutely loved staying in this little cottage and the red squirrel that visited every
day was wonderful :) Being so close to a little stream that we could hear from the bedroom was magical, and we had many breakfasts and cups of tea on little bridge. Being so close the the breathtaking fells, and the windy paths and hillocks of the surrounding area made for a truly beautiful week. Ian was a very kind host and drove us to the station when we were leaving which was so kind.
GREAT STAY! ONE OF THE BEST.
BECK COTTAGE, KIRKLAND, EDEN DISTRICT, CUMBRIA, UK
SUPER GREAT STAY! DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE (Had paid reservations in another part of the UK).
The cottage has an “open” design and feeling. The fireplace with the ample fire wood available added to the charm. The large window in the living area allows for significant sunlight and viewing of the many birds, numerous pheasants and small birds. During our October stay the leaves were turning an array of bright colors. The cottage at the end of a vehicle road, just above the cottage, is where two major trails begin, and my wife and I took advantage of the trails. The small stream behind the cottage provides a pleasant sound and viewing.
The cottage is an old stone out-building conversion done by the owners, Ian and Leslie Howe. The same is true with large stone barn conversion just across the road, which contains three large vacation apartments and the Howe’s residence. The gardens behind the large barn are a paradise in the northern UK setting.
Most important, my wife and I enjoyed our conversations with Ian and his wife, Lesli, and knowing about their interesting lives.
We hope that we will someday be able to return for an even longer stay in the Beck Cottage than the two October weeks we so enjoyed.

Beautiful well equipped cottage!
Lovely cottage with everything you could need. It is definitely worth a visit.
Wonderful place for a peaceful break.
We absolutely loved the cottage and had such a wonderful break. Did some walking but mainly just relaxed by the wood stove and watched the wildlife.
relaxing perfect location
Very comfortable, very clean with every facility you need. We enjoyed the wildlife- birds and red squirrels. Great location for getting out on the fells. Thank you Ian for making us very welcome. Hope to return again.
Lovely cottage - super holiday!
We enjoyed staying at this cottage very much. The owner, Ian, was very welcoming, and the cottage was well equipped. It was a little cold on the first night and we were loathe to light the fire, but the second evening we were glad we did as the heating didn't seem to make much of an impact on the property. We were fortunate to enjoy beautiful sunny days thereafter and the heating was no longer needed. The lighting could use a bit of upgrading, particularly in the bathroom where it is pretty poor. Other than that we loved the place. It is miles from anywhere, so be prepared to do a lot of driving in and out - it is about 20 mins to Penrith. However, we enjoyed the rural location, loved seeing red squirrels, hares, woodpeckers and a variety of other birds each morning outside the window. We also enjoyed the seclusion of the garden. Overall a great place to stay - would highly recommend it to anyone.
