Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Gairloch - Rona

Sleeps 4, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom. Secure online payments available.

This modern detached bungalow, 80 yards from the seashore with private beach access, is located in the quiet crofting community of Melvaig, near Gairloch. Graded 4 stars by Visits Scotland.

The house overlooks the sea, offering stunning sunsets and views of Skye, Harris and Lewis and the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights in winter. The Beinn Eighe Reserve and the Torridon Mountains are just a short distance away from the numerous sandy beaches and bays which are located around Melvaig, Gairloch and Red Point. The cottages are used by the whale and dolphin conservation society, to survey marine life in the sea. Also good base for bird watching and chance of seeing sea eagles round the cottage.

Comfortable and beautifully furnished L shaped lounge / dining room with picture windows giving magnificent views over the sea and Skye, Harris and Lewis. Electric fire, two large settees, Sky Freeview satellite colour TV, DVD, radio/cassette/CD player. Payphone in the lounge.

The fully fitted modern kitchen is well equipped with electric cooker, dishwasher, microwave, fridge and freezer, washer, tumble dryer, toaster, food mixer etc. plus a good range of cooking utensils. Rear porch with hanging space for outdoor clothes etc.

Ramp access and wide doorways for wheelchairs. Double glazing throughout. Heating by oil fired central heating.

The area's attractions include: whale watching and marine trips, including visits to the puffin colonies on the Shiant islands, salmon, sea trout, brown trout, pike and sea fishing, Bird watching, falconry courses golf course and pony trekking. Also, boat trips on Loch Maree to view Viking graves, bike hire, car hire, swimming pool, deer stalking and deer museum, guided hill walks and guided climbing and sea kayaking trips, and Inverewe Gardens, to name but a few. The coastline around Melvaig and to the Rua Reidh Lighthouse (approx. 4 miles) is rugged, a haven for nesting birds, seals, whales and otters.

We can take online payments and we do have an online booking system.

We visited Rona cottage in February and saw the most amazing sun sets, Aberdeen angus cow's, sheep, deer which came up right outside the garden of the cottage also goats and deer close by. Although at that time of year you wouldn't expect to see dolphins and whales we're very certain that they are there as we visited a nearby beach at Dundonell.

The description of the cottage is very accurate we felt at home straight away, it was clean and tidy with all the mod cons, cooker, dish washer, washing machine and tumble dryer. Rona is exceptionally well maintained.

Frank and Dianne live two cottages away from Rona and were there to greet us when we arrived, even if we were a little late!

You will need a car for this cottage as there is a 20 mile round trip to the nearest shop along a single track road with passing places not to mention the sheep and cows who casually walk along the road daily.

You can visit the lighthouse and beaches or drive into Gairloch for something to eat or visit the churches and take walks up to the Flowerdale waterfall.

In the summer you can go whale/dolphin spotting on tour boats or go further afield and visit one or all of the isles just off the coast of the mainland or sit in Rona's living room and gaze over the Minch Sea at the isles whilst the sun is setting.

We would recommend Rona to family and friends and we were sorry that we had to go home at the end of our stay. Don't forget to pack your kids and your dog, as they are welcome too.

Sehr schönes Haus mit wunderbarem Meeresblick

  • 5 of 5
