Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Wigton - Bush Cottage

Cosy 2 bedroom cottage, graded 4 star GOLD

Bush Cottage is a cosy 2 bedroom cottage, located in the charming peaceful village of Tallentire, on the North Western edge of the Lake District National Park, and just 3 miles from the bustling market town of Cockermouth.

It is a traditional terraced, stone-built farm workers' cottage, seviced and maintained by the owners, which has been refurbished to a high standard of accommodation, for those seeking a peaceful retreat within a small village setting. The cottage retains some of its original features.

The cosy living room is comfortably furnished, has an electric stove as its focal point, and includes a Freesat TV, and DVD player. The dining room/ kitchen area has been fitted out to a modern high standard, with a wood effect floor, a large pine dining table and chairs for 4 people. The well-equipped kitchen area includes a dishwasher, washer/ dryer, microwave, electric oven/grill, ceramic hob, fridge and freezer. There is a radio/CD player in the dining area. Plenty of storage space is provided in a large understairs cupboard, with iron, ironing board and vacuum cleaner. The stairway leads from the living room to a double bedroom, with views to the Solway coast, a twin bedroom with travel cot, and a modern bathroom complete with bath, and electric shower. However, the staircase is fairly steep and may be unsuitable for very young children and the elderly.

The cottage has its own private, sunny secluded garden in which to relax, with flowers and shrubs, a lawn, a patio area, barbecue, outdoor furniture and parasol.

The cottage benefits from controllable central heating; all electricity and oil is included in the rental price. Towels, bedding and table linen are also included.

Guestbook comments from the manager

This is the perfect holiday cottage- it has everything you could possibly need during your stay and more, and the personal touches are what really makes it stand out and gives it a really comfortable and homely feel. It is also well located, giving easy access to both the coast and the Lakes. We particularly enjoyed Cockermouth and St Bees and the area around Buttermere was beautiful. The Bridge Cottage tearooms in Grange in Borrowdale is well worth a visit if only for the views from the tea garden- absolutely fabulous! All in all, we've had a really enjoyable stay and don't want to leave. Many thanks for everything.- John & Marie, West Midlands, Aug '14

The perfect cottage.

  • 5 of 5

Bush Cottage was absolutely perfect. A great base from which to explore the Lake District, Hadrians Wall and the coast. There was not a single detail overlooked. The cottage was immaculate, kitchen had EVERYTHING (including soap and picnic ware and ice pacs for the cooler). Most appreciated was the wealth of resources (binder on how to use each and every appliance; maps - including OS maps for all local areas; a binder of recommended walks; and brochures and pamphlets from local sites and attractions). Thank you Maggie!

Wonderful............

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect base in this part of the lakes for a walking weekend. The sun shone and Bush Cottage was just beautiful, excellent interior and all the facilities you need. Very clean and the welcome hamper much appreciated. Tallentire is a quiet, sleepy village a nice escape from city life and the bird song was fantastic, as were a few drinks in the Bush Inn. Nice sitting out facilities in a well kept garden. Highly recommend this property. The owner was very friendly and efficient to deal with. Thank you.

An extremely clean and very well-equiped home

  • 5 of 5

Bush cottage is a homely place, very clean and very well-equiped. There is everything you could dream of and even more... The cottage is really well looked after and the owner made us feel ever so welcome. We all enjoyed returning "home" every evening after a day visiting/ hiking (thank you for all of the maps and information leaflets). It is well located. Cockermouth is a lovely town. The northern area of the Lake District is close, as well as the sea. There is plenty to visit nearby. The pub next door is a nice place to have a traditional meal, the people are very friendly. We highly recommend this cottage to anybody who wants a pleasant and tranquil holiday in a home that feels like home.

Perfect cottage - everything we needed!

  • 5 of 5

We were very impressed by Bush Cottage. The kitchen area is superb - everything you could want to cook with. The bedding and living quarters were completely clean and well cared for. Soft, fluffy towels were a great treat!

The village is very quiet with no shops which was really nice after a day travelling around the lakes. The 'Bush Inn' pub just next door was very welcoming and friendly, offering local tips and advice. Their food was also excellent and great value.

Absolutely would come and stay again and would recommend it to others.

Welcoming, cosy and well equipped

  • 5 of 5

Myself, my husband, 7 year old and 1 year old stayed at Bush cottage for a short break following meeting up with friends for a birthday celebration.

Bush cottage was clean, tidy, welcoming and had lots of little thoughtful extra touches. The kitchen & dining area provided lovely modern facilities with plenty of utensils and equipment for cooking. The living room was small and cosy, but big enough for us and comfortable.

There was easy access to a wide range of activities to do in the area. Places we visited and enjoyed included Whinlatter Forest for mountain biking, Grizedale Forest for Junior Go Ape, Buttermere for walking and St Bees for rock pooling. The Pheasant Inn, Bassenthwaite, provided a lovely meal out on what became our penultimate night as we decided to stay an extra night having enjoyed our stay so much.

We visited The Bush Inn on our last night for a drink and received a very warm welcome.

Maggie was very helpful and accommodating, especially when we asked to stay longer, and I would recommend the property to family and friends.

We would love to visit again in the future as there is so much still to do in the area and the cottage is well placed to reach different areas.

Bush Cottage is situated on the quieter North Western fringes of the Lake District. The area is well known for many outdoor activities, including hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, cycling, canoeing and sailing. Whinlatter Forest Park, only 20 minutes away, rises to 790 metres above sea level, and offers spectacular views of the Lake District and into Scotland. There are numerous walking routes, high level and low level cycling routes, nature trails, orienteering trails, picnic sites, a tearoom and a shop. For those feeling less energetic, there are many scenic drives, beautiful Cumbrian villages and towns to explore, and leisurely strolls around the most peaceful of lakes and tarns. Nearby towns such as Cockermouth and Keswick offer galleries, specialist shops, restaurants and pubs. The historic Border city of Carlisle, with its intriguing castle, museum and shops is within a half hour's drive and from here, you can pay a visit to nearby Hadrian's Wall. To the south, are the dramatic lesser known valleys of Ennerdale, Eskdale and of course, Wasdale, voted 'Britain's Favourite View'.

Bush Cottage is only 5 miles from the sea. There are many small towns and villages to visit up and down the West Coast of Cumbria, many of which have their own interesting history of smuggling, or ship building.

Maryport is only 6 miles away, and was once the site of a Roman fort and port, built to complement the harbour at Ravenglass to the south. The modern town of Maryport was developed from a small fishing village into a coal port. Now, you can pay a visit to the fascinating Lake District Sea Aquarium on the harbourside, the new visitor centre at 'The Wave', or try out your driving skills at the West Coast Indoor Karting Centre.

Whitehaven is also an ancient port, and was once a rival to Liverpool. Now, its quiet harbour with its piers and promenades, is a conservation area used by pleasure craft and fishing vessels. From here, take a walk South along the 'Colourful Coast' towards St Bees to look for porpoises, dolphins, puffins and other marine creatures.

Or if you fancy a leisurely stroll down a deserted sandy beach, then there are many traditional seaside villages to fit the bill, such as St Bees with its traditional cafe serving homemade icecream, and its unspoilt seaside atmosphere. Allonby is only a few miles away, and has all the facilities you would expect from a seaside village- cafes, pubs, a leisure centre, Blue flag beaches- you can even learn how to surf.
