Why Malcolm Dudson chose Lochgelly
My wife and I moved to Fife in 1980, from Surrey. We wanted something completely different, yet convenient. She found this house, and as soon as I saw it, I knew we had to have it. If I had been asked to sketch her dream house, this was it. A serene stone house, set in a large walled garden, amidst rolling fields.. We lived there for 20 years, before circumstances forced a move back south. We could not bear to give up the house, and I still use if for vacations.

Stay at bowhouse
The house was fantastic. Warm, inviting, cozy and in a beautiful location. When we come back in the future we hope to stay again at Bowhouse.
It was much better than at home .... a huge house ..like a castle.
Thank you for the wonderful short holiday in Scotland.Beautiful surroundings, amazing nature .That's what we were looking for. We'll be back ... Thank you very much
Lovely homely farmhouse
The property was in a lovely location and a beautiful building. Some may think it requires modernisation but to us that was part of the charm of this 300 yr old house. Only downside was we found some advanced dry rot in the kitchen, whilst not harmful to ourself it is a concern to the property. We did contact the owner and he thanked us for the info, we truly hope it gets repaired before it causes this lovely building any serious harm. I would say owing to that complication we have knocked one star of what we would have given. Thankfully my wife's profession deals with old property and such issues. otherwise we would probably have had further concerns on finding the rot.
Would stay again and hopefully see it has been repaired.
First things first, the repairs are under way!
It was very unfortunate that this happened. I was in the house two weeks previous, and spotted no sign of it. I am very appreciative of the polite way in which the guest informed me, and the positive attitude taken.
I am delighted that this did not affect their holiday, and also that they seemed to appreciate the true ambiance of Bowhouse.
I look forward to their return in the future, when they will be able to see that the repairs are completed, and the house is able once more to justify its usual **** or ***** rating.
Lovely second stay at a home away from home
We so enjoyed our first stay at Bow House that our children insisted on going back, and we had an even lovelier stay the second time.
Our first time was a brightly sunny week, but our second was a much more typical Scottish summer, with some sun, some rain, lots of wonderful fresh air and the most fantastic walks by the coast.
We used the facilities at Bow House much more as a result, and it was such a relief to be able to wash and dry our wet things, stay cuddled up inside with the great toys and diversions of an evening if we wanted, and nip out to the cinema in Dunfermline so easily.
It was great to feel at home so quickly, and the kids kept asking when we were heading home again to Bow House after a day out and about castle exploring.
St Andrews was a good day out again, and the seaside was absolutely amazing. There are a dozen wonderful visits to do in the near area, good for almost anything you would want, from bird watching and walking, to Loch Leven and Scone Castle, shooting and horse riding, and of course St Andrews itself.
Our children are already asking us when we are going again and the charm of Bow House is exerting a strong pull on us too. We won't try very hard to resist it!
It is always a pleasure to have guests for a second time, and to find that they have enjoyed the house, its facilities and the surroundings as much as before.
Do make it three!
Exactly what we were looking for and more.
Although I was brought up within a few miles of Bowhouse I had no idea that this lovely property existed. It was just as described in the brochure and was well equipped with everything you could possibly require. Unfortunately our stay was a a relatively short one over the Easter weekend and we didn't have time to make full use of the facilities on the doorstep but we would not hesitate to return for a longer visit next time. We particularly enjoyed the beautiful garden and walks and it was lovely to wake up to the sight of fields and horses and the tranquility of it all. Our friends and relatives who still live in the area were able to enjoy visiting us there and we were blessed with lovely sunshine which made the place even more special. Thank you Malcolm for the time you took to speak with me before our visit and explain how everything worked. These personal touches are rare these days but go a long way to making you feel very welcome.
Ideal location, characterful, warm, comfortable.
Our party of 6 – two grandparents, two parents and two children – found Bowhouse ideal for our week in Scotland. The weather was hot and sunny, and we were able to spend every day out and about in different places nearby, doing different activities, from nature parks and beaches to palaces and museums.
From the start we were impressed by the charmingly characterful Bowhouse, and especially with the style of the accommodation – the stylish bedrooms were just right for our needs, the large family bathroom ideal for fun bathtimes for the children, with plenty of hot water at all times, and the second bathroom was ideally placed and a real boon.
We loved the bright and warm conservatory, with its collection of intriguing family board games, and its views over the surrounding countryside.
Even with additional guests visiting during the day, there was ample seating in the large kitchen and in the dining room, sitting room and conservatory.
The kitchen has a 2 and a half sink – luxury! – and is very well stocked with kitchen paraphernalia.
Not only is there a wide range of activities available within easy reach – the Scottish Deer Centre, the beautiful East Neuk of Fife, St Andrews and much more - there is shopping of all kinds almost on your doorstep, from the Fife Retail Park just off the A92 ten minutes away, to Glenrothes less than 5 miles away.
We also loved the wide selection of books throughout the house, located at strategic points, and the intriguing collections of precious toys and memorabilia on display.
We really enjoyed the ambience of Bowhouse - many thanks for such a heart warming hub for our holiday.
Beautifully situated amidst rolling farmland, yet only a few miles from the beaches and fishing villages of the scenic East Neuk
Whilst this property is ideal for a relaxing holiday in tranquil surroundings, it will also satisfy the most energetic of holiday makers. The surrounding area offers a wealth of activities including golf courses, (St Andrews is about 25 miles away), and excellent cycling and walking, including the Fife Coastal Path. It is adjacent to the renowned Scottish Equestrian centre which offers horse riding at all levels, and Cluny Clays, within three miles, offers clay pigeon shooting, archery, a golf driving range, and a wide range of children's activities. Tennis and squash can be arranged at a local sports club.
For a cultural break, Edinburgh is an easy drive away, or can be accessed by rail in 30 minutes direct from Kirkcaldy. For shopping,In addition to the village of Kinglassie, Glenrothes is three miles away and, despite being in the heart of the country, Fife central retail park with supermarkets and other large stores also is three miles away. There is a wide range of restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets within easy reach.
