Hummingbird House: Comfy Base for Exploring Sequoia & Kings Canyon Nat'l Parks

Welcome to Hummingbird House! Set in the Sierra Nevada foothills, 25 minutes from the entrance to Kings Canyon National Park, this quiet and cozy home provides a place to rejuvenate or a base from which to explore the magnificent Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks and surrounding national forests. Featuring four distinct seasons, there is beauty year round. Enjoy the scenic drive through the Sierra Nevada foothills on your way to the house. Lazy country roads provide good walking/biking routes. Perfect for couples, families and those who love nature and the outdoors!

The 3BDRM/2BA house is fully appointed and includes a master bed/bath suite with a king bed and two additional roomy bedrooms with a queen bed in each. The kitchen is fully equipped and includes a waffle-maker, smoothie blender, coffee and tea makers, etc. Breakfast food and snacks are provided.

The house has high-speed wifi suitable for streaming video and any other internet tasks. It also includes a complimentary electric vehicle charger for those who need a charge before heading to the national parks or back home.

Outside the house is fifty acres for you to explore. Take a walk to the creek or the pond. Watch the deer and wild turkeys wander through the yard. Enjoy the zillions of hummingbirds! There is a deck in the back yard and a pellet grill for outdoor cooking.

As most of my guests say, you'll want to spend more time at the Hummingbird House!

Peaceful and cozy
This is such a unique and inviting setting, the views are great (beautiful sunset) and we were greeted by wild turkeys! The attention to detail made us feel so welcomed and relaxed. The beds and sitting areas are very comfortable and there is plenty of room to spread out. Country fresh eggs, milk, snacks and everything needed to cook were wonderful. There’s not much nearby and the winding roads provided a bit of adventure, but we loved getting off the beaten path. Joni was extremely responsive and helpful.

Serene Quiet
The area is in the rural foot hills of the Sierra. Lots of winding roads and open spaces. The house is isolated from traffic sounds and other people. It's the quietest place I've ever stayed. At the same time there is an all day chorus of various birds that come to eat from the bird feeders in the meadow in front of the house. And, for a little extra entertainment there are some feral cats that live in the garage and patrol the property looking for prey. The house itself is roomy and well laid out with a large work area in the kitchen. All three of us could cook at the same time without getting in each others way. (This is unusual.) Many large windows through out the house. The arrangement of the furniture in the living room works great for watching movies. We all felt the house was our favorite among all the houses we stayed in. The main drawback is the "commute time" to either Kings Canyon park or Sequoia. We hike or snowshoe, so we want to spend most of our time outdoors in our chosen activities, not driving long distances. Part of one of the easier routes to Kings Canyon was closed so we had to use a very narrow, very winding road to get to the main route into Kings Canyon. It took over an hour each way in good weather. The day we went to Sequoia was after it snowed higher up with a chain control and because the traffic was so bad we finally turned around to go to another place to hike. We were there over New Years, so the holiday probably brought out more people.

Charming hideaway
Hummingbird House is just lovely! Nestled in the Sierras, on a large piece of property that is delightful on its own, it was the perfect location for easy entry into King’s Canyon NP and from there down into Sequoia NP. We were able to see highlights of both in one loop from the house, returning through Three Rivers on Kaweah Lake. The house is spacious, with comfortable beds, washer/dryer, and even snacks in the kitchen! There were fresh eggs from a neighbor in the fridge as well as juice and milk. Joni was easy to reach and very helpful. She has a book full of recommendations about the area and pictures of all the nearby wildlife that her cameras have caught. Highly recommend!

Having lived in the area for more than 40 years, I have enjoyed sharing this corner of the world with travelers from around the globe. One of the great joys has been meeting with guests and sharing stories of our travel adventures.

Why they chose this property

The home was initially built for my parents, so they could be closer as they aged. As they have both now passed, the house needed a new purpose. It has been a special treat to make it a welcoming home once again and to allow visitors to the national parks a respite.

What makes this property unique

Our area is perfect for those looking to get away from it all! There is plenty of wildlife, starry nights, quiet mornings and beautiful sunsets. The house is a perfect base for exploring both Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.
