Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday apartment in Gloucester - The Weavers' Loft

Apartment, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible Bed(s), 2 Baths, (sleeps 4-5)

The Weavers' Loft at Green Court Holiday Lets is on the first floor of the East Wing in a very special Grade II listed, holiday let in the beautiful Cotswold village of Chalford. Just a short drive away is the 'Capital of the Cotswolds' Cirencester, Painswick, Cheltenham, Stroud, the antiques center of Tetbury, the World Heritage City of Bath, Bourton-on-the-Water and much more.

The recently refurbished accommodation is a fabulous loft-style apartment comprising a large open plan living/dining area complete with wood burner and under floor heating throughout. There is a fully equipped modern kitchen, 1 double with fabulous views of the valley and an ensuite shower and toilet and a bunk room and separate bathroom.

The Loft forms part of a large listed property, once occupied by the owner of one of the local mills. The Weavers' Loft is believed to be originally a 'factory' floor for the weaving of wool or silk from Sevilles' Mill.

Chalford is in some of the most beautiful countryside in the whole range of the Cotswolds (and even the country). Nestled in the Golden Valley, one of Stroud's Five Valleys, Chalford is described as the Alpine Village with its steep hills and houses perched along small donkey tracks. A walkers' paradise with beautiful scenery around every corner. The narrow High Street winds its way through the village past an amazing array of characterful cottages.

Chalford was once a centre for the wool industry, with many Listed mills dotted along the old Thames and Severn Canal. Many houses you still can't drive to. In the village is a small shop run by volunteers selling a selection of lovely organic goodies and a short walk away are some great pubs for beer, wine, good food and stunning sunsets.

Please note: There is also a beautiful 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom Cottage Annex available to rent either with the Loft or separately - check out listing #411118.

About Anna Simson

My husband and I fell in love with our beautiful Grade II listed home in the Cotswolds. We bought it in 2005 and have been lovingly refurbishing it since along with occasional help (and hindrance) from our young daughter, Freya, and our friendly chocolate Labrador, Revel.

Anna Simson purchased this apartment in 2005

Why Anna Simson chose Cotswold district

We already knew the village of Chalford - the Alpine village as it is often known - and loved the strong community feel, the beautiful valley and walks plus being so accessible from across the country.

What makes this apartment unique

Where to start? There are so many things to do from staying nearby and enjoying the walks, the river, the fresh air and beautiful Cotswold villages to travelling a little further and seeing the regency town of Bath or the spires of Oxford or the race courses, the polo, the wildlife park, playing golf, groceries delivered by donkey to your doorstep ..... Even a day-trip to London is possible with a 1.25 hour train journey into Paddington.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My husband and I have just spent a great 6 days in Chalford Hill. Anna's and Chris' apartment is one of those very rare beasts that is actually nicer in real life than it looks on the photos, so no nasty surprises there that often happen when booking holiday properties over the Internet. The apartment is comfortable, generously proportioned and, what we liked most of all, very light, quiet and spotlessly clean. It is also extremely private as there are no other houses in front of it, just a beautiful double aspect overlooking the hills and the village. We also liked their modern and very well equipped kitchen which enabled us to alternate eating out and making our own meals, which was not only good for the waistline, but for the wallet, too. Although, speaking of the waistline, there are so many hills (and some rather steep) that burning those extra calories was not a huge problem in this place. There are lots of wonderful areas to explore all around Chalford Hill, too many to mention them all. Anna had been very thoughtful and had made up an excellent guide with the recommended places to see, eateries to eat in and local attractions to visit, there is something for everyone in there. As this was our first visit to the South Cotswolds, we just enjoyed exploring many different villages and towns around and, since we were extremely lucky with the weather, just walking around gorgeous Chalford Hill and other areas. We would highly recommend the historical walk around Chalford Hill which takes you throughout the village and the local woods and valleys. The map with detailed and very interesting descriptions of the historical facts can be bought in the village corner shop down the road for a couple of pounds which contributes to the building of the new roof for the local church. While still in the village try to find out from the locals where "Jacob's ladder" is, a narrow, uphill row of stone steps leading to the most stunning view of the valley and some gorgeous cottages. We particularly enjoyed visiting the beautifully preserved village of Painswick, Nailsworth (don't miss the fantastic Hobbs House bakery, the best bread and cakes we have had in ages and William's Deli), Stroud for its fantastic Farmers Market (Saturdays) and Cirencester for some great cafes (Made by Bob, Somewhere Else). In Tetbury, we had a great meal in the "Trouble House". Thank you Anna and Chris for your help and hospitality, we look forward to coming back soon,

Wonderful Cotswold Find!

  • 5 of 5

This was our best VRBO experience yet. We (mom, dad, and teenager daughter) loved staying in this beautifully restored upstairs suite in the Weaver's Loft. The accommodations were exactly as pictured and were very well equipped. Our hostess (Anna) and her family could not have been more welcoming and helpful, even letting us use their phone to contact relatives in other parts of England. The location in Chalford is super for exploring the Cotswolds by car or just taking walks in the picturesque town and countryside. Anna provided lots of suggestions regarding walks in the area and local pubs and restaurants to visit. In a nutshell: this is a great rental in a wonderful location and at a good price. A definite five stars. Book it and you will not be disappointed.

Incredible find - only wish we could have stayed longer!

  • 5 of 5

We drove from Heathrow to here in about 1.5 hours, without getting lost, due to Anna's wonderful directions! We had a week of sunny weather, so the Weaver's Loft was a bright and cheery place to us, with lots of windows and great views of the countryside. Beds were very comfortable, kitchen well furnished, and the kitchen-dining-living room area felt very spacious to the three of us. We drove to Bath and Oxford, and enjoyed those days, but highly recommend Stroud for a nice Saturday outing. Anna, Chris, Freya, and the two dogs were wonderful hosts. Couldn't ask for a better experience!

Rural relaxation

  • 5 of 5

This is the third year we've visited Weaver's Loft. We love it. A great communal living space, perfect for cooking, dining and relaxing. Well equipped kitchen, clean and comfortable accommodation.

Anna and Chris are very friendly and helpful hosts.

The first two years we just parked the cars and didn't get back in them until we left. Walking straight from the house there are a number of paths to take. The park at the bottom of the hill a huge bonus, especially now the older one can take the younger ones down there giving the adults some peace!

We will be back.

Hidden gem

  • 5 of 5

This was our 3rd stay at the Weavers loft and we absolutely love it! The loft is very clean, well appointed and suits our mixed group of adults and children, especially now they are old enough to go to the nearby park alone.

Anna and her family are lovely hosts and she is mine of information about the local area. The annual Scarecrow trail is great fun for kids and there are many beautiful walks you can go on straight from the property. The valley itself is exquisite and we always enjoy spotting birds, foraging for wild garlic, buying local honey etc.

My only reservation about recommending this property is that we don't want it too become *too* popular!

Perfect location, good value accommodation and super helpful owner

  • 5 of 5

Simple, clean, well stocked accommodation in a stunning location. Anna, the owner, was a delight and when asked was full of useful advice about the local area. An abundance of gorgeous walks from the door and a brilliant park a stones throw from the house made for a fairly idyllic stay.

Great view, lovely conversion, friendly host

  • 4 of 5

The Weavers Loft s a fantastic place for anyone looking for a scenic and peaceful retreat. Our family, including two young children, loved our stay over Easter. The local village of Chalford is idyllic and has several easy walks for young kids and the playground nearby was a welcome bonus. A short drive takes you to the heart of the Cotswolds. All in all, a great long weekend away over Easter made better by very friendly and helpful hosts (Anna & Chris).
