Amazingly quiet cabin nestled in the National Forest. Sounds of a trout stream, large front porch, recent upgrades, charming soapstone stove, will make you take a deep breath. This is like being cradled in a park, with walks along the river running for miles. The house is not huge, but the cathedral ceiling, and nice layout live larger. There is deeded access to the river across the road. Local within 10-20 minutes include Crabtree Falls, Spy Rock, Montebello Trout Pond, Horseback riding, Blue Ridge Parkway, 30 minutes to Wintergreen and the 151 corridor, with breweries, wineries, and Piney River Rails to Trails, to mention a few. Also access to little known private hikes along mountain streams. This little valley has a variety of other vacation rentals along the river and is a hidden gem 1 hr from Charlottesville. For larger groups consider renting one or more of the several cabins right across the road, Deer Run or Bears Paw etc. There is internet/wifi through a satellite connection.

About Scott Wiley
We bought this last fall and fell in love with the area. We have jobs as nurse and psychologist, and find the peace a quiet to be wonderful. We manage three other properties ( not on VRBO) so are familiar with guest needs and hosting. Our future plans include a hot tub and outdoor fire pit area, as well as an outbuilding bedroom/bath.
Scott Wiley purchased this Cabin in 2016
Why Scott Wiley chose Montebello
We bought this place after staying in a weekend rental nearby, and happening upon this listing. The weather in summer is generally 10 degrees cooler than Charlottesville. The road in front of the house runs for miles along the river, but some days it is hard to make it off the front porch!
What makes this Cabin unique
The local area is rich in both history ( a century old flour mill up the road, an old log cabin across the road, and a quaint cemetery from before 1900 to name a few) and also close to Crabtree Falls, 151, the Parkway and hikes, swimming holes in the river, native trout streams within walking distance.

Nothing Less Than Total Serenity And Gracious Hospitality!
We just spent three relaxing days at the White Rock Cabin, our only regret is that we did not stay longer. Nestled in the woods along the Tye River, the location can be described as nothing less than serene. The cabin itself very quaint and is nicely furnished with an extremely comfortable bed, a full laundry and a very well-equipped kitchen. After a day of hiking, we thoroughly enjoyed spending our evenings on the front porch, listening to the relaxing sound of the Tye River. Best of all, our host Scott was extremely gracious and went above and beyond to ensure our stay was a pleasant experience. We look forward to future visits to White Rock Cabin.
Beautifully modest cabin
This cabin was gorgeous. It was the perfect spot for my boyfriend and I to take a weekend vacation. It's a great spot if you're looking for some isolation, as the last 25 minutes of our drive to get to the cabin was all gravel road. Wifi was a little spotty and the hot water was finicky at times, but we'll definitely be coming back. Fully stocked kitchen equipment and even some nice wine and food. The owners have clearly put in a lot of thought to make the place hospitable for visitors. Thanks for the lovely stay! We hope to be back soon!
Thanks for the review. For future guests, The wifi is satellite so primarily good for tracking email or going to a webpage not really for streaming movies. I did discover this weekend that one of the heating elements was burned out on the heater so will take care of that when the part arrives.
This was my second time staying at the White Rock cabin and once again it did not disappoint. I love everything about this place from the cozy cabin, the peaceful stream, endless hikes, and awesome breweries. On both trips I left wishing I’d stayed longer. A huge plus is Scott, he’s an amazing host and is easy to reach if you have questions. Can’t wait until my next visit.
Great hosts! Enjoyed this cabin in the mountains.
We loved this cabin. The owner was wonderful to deal with, quickly replying to emails and texts. He was even kind enough to respond to my random questions about the local area. We were amazed to find the fridge thoughtfully stocked with items we might need. Everything about the cabin was set up to cover any and all of our needs. Fun area to visit. Great hosts! Thank you!
Amazing getaway, peaceful and relaxing
My fiancé and I loved our stay at White Rock Cabin, we were so grateful we could bring our dogs with us. The cabin is/was the perfect getaway for us. We went hiking at Crabtree Falls-which was awesome! We went on a Thursday and it wasn’t too crowded. We also went to the stocked pond and the fish sanctuary a few miles down the road. The swimming hole at the end of the road was a great spot to cool off and relax and eat our lunch! There’s a lot to do, we didn’t even miss the TV. The cabin is full of a variety of board games that kept us entertained. We also appreciated how accommodating Scott made his cabin. From plenty of cookware to a blow dryer in the bathroom, Scott made sure we had it all. We even said we overpacked! It’s about a 20-30 min drive to the nearby breweries and wineries, we only went to Devil’s Backbone-which is a great spot to hang out! So many picnic tables, corn hole boards, and of course the beer!
We definitely reccomend staying here and we are already talking about planning another trip in the near future!
Amazing getaway spot
Everything was great! My only complaint is the bed, it was on wood blocks and was a full size so it was rough first nights sleep. Other than that perfect spot to escape to. There's also a pull out in the living room in case it's needed.
I am sorry this guest did not sleep well, but don’t quite understand, so for future guests: the bed is a brand new queen sized ( not full) three layer memory foam mattress from Tuft and Needle, sitting on a conventional box spring. The metal frame is on 4 blocks simply to raise the bed up to allow storage, and is level, so has nothing to do with the sleep quality. It is rated as medium firm. Hope this helps.
This is a quiet setting, sounds of the river, miles of walks. Minutes from Crabtree Falls, the Blue Ridge Parkway, fish hatchery. Convenient to Wintergreen, and the 151 selection of restaurants and wineries are 30-40 minutes. Or just relax on the large front porch. It is always 10 or more degrees cooler than Charlottesville.
