About Craig Campbell
The owners, Craig and Gretchen Campbell, reside in Marblehead, Massachusetts when not out on Nantucket. We are both environmental attorneys living in a 1652 antique home near the ocean on an historic street called Gingerbread Hill! While Gretchen is originally from Marblehead, Craig is a displaced Texan who is still pondering how he ended up with two houses near the ocean and not on 50 acres in Montana near a trout stream!
Craig Campbell purchased this Cottage in 1992
Why Craig Campbell chose Siasconset
When we were first married we honeymooned on Nantucket. Of course we had to see Siasconset (Sconset) during our visit and we fell in love with the charming small rose-covered cottages Sconset is famous for. Years later while vacationing on the Island, we were walking in downtown Nantucket in the pouring rain when we stumbled into a local realtors office to dry out. One thing lead to another and the next thing we knew we were the proud owners of "Barque"! (Believe me it turned out to be a lot more complicated than it sounds!) This is our only vacation home and we treat it as such with many personal touches unlike many of the generic rental properties on the island. Unlike most of these charming small cottages in Sconset, ours was totally rebuilt in the 1980s and has modern amenities not found in many of the other cottages in this area.
What makes this Cottage unique
There are two paths down to the beach from our cottage ensuring a three minute walk in either direction to the beach. Although our yard is small, we have lovely perennial gardens for you to enjoy when the season permits. While the house is small as well, it is beautifully decorated with original paintings, antique oriental rugs, china trade accents, custom barn board cabinets in the kitchen and faux burl hand painted cabinets and woodwork in the bathroom. The slipcover on the queen size sleeper sofa in the living area (Pottery Barn) changes periodically.

Late summer island getaway
‘Sconset was the perfect location for our family vacation. Loved the beach (the surf and the seals) and the peaceful quiet while still having a few amenities (market, couple of restaurants) within walking distance. The cottage is so picturesque that it attracts both the passerby and a few tour busses as well. Despite being small, Barque had everything we needed.
An amazing vacation
This is a charming cottage with a priceless view of the ocean and the sunrise. Just a quick walk to the market where they have fresh crumb cake and blueberry muffins in the morning. We enjoyed the beach just a block away from the cottage, where we saw seals on a daily basis. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
Great cute little spot!
We had a great weekend for our first daffy! The house was small but just enough for my girlfriend and I. The owners were very accommodating leading up to the trip with great communication and even some tips for what to do and when. The place was clean and neat. Would definitely stay there again.
Fabulous—again and again and again!
My husband and I honeymooned here 10 years ago for a week and we have celebrated several anniversaries here too. We’ve always loved it for the following reasons:
1) the cottage (named Barque) overlooks the ocean and the sounds of the waves is always present. We watched the ocean from the living room, the road, and the front yard.
2) ‘Sconset in April is relatively deserted.
3) the beach was lovely and a great place to walk our dog.
4) the Cliff walk is gorgeous.
5) the cottage is very small, but cozy and well-appointed.
6) depending on the spring timing, you will see beautiful daffodils and perhaps forsythia.
7) bring your bicycles.
We highly recommend Barque for a romantic getaway. We will definitely return❣️
Romantic cottage by the sea.
Absolutely wonderful! Sconset, it's history, it's landscapes, it's beaches are magical. Owners Craig and Gretchen were a joy to deal with. Please don't rent this cottage because Diane and I want to book it again! ; )
An absolute dream!
I have always dreamed of visiting Nantucket! Booking my trip through Craig and Gretchen was positive from start to finish. I absolutely loved the location of the cottage. It was in perfect walking distance of the beach and the quaint Sconset cafe and grocery store ( make sure you buy morning crumb cake! Oh myyyy!!!!) My stay was more than comfortable. I appreciated having a well stocked cottage and comforts of home. I did have to buy a hair dryer, so don’t forget to pack one. The beach below the cottage was absolutely perfect. I hung out daily with three seals who floated nearby. The beach was quiet, relaxing and inviting! I also was intrigued by all the lightning bugs in the bushes outside of the cottage The entire hedge was lit up like a Christmas tree! I felt so blessed that I found this charming cottage as it is truly perfect. I can’t wait to book this again. Craig and Gretchen were very kind and helpful hosts. I miss it already! I am so thankful for this beautiful experience! Thank you Craig and Gretchen !!
Walking, swimming, bike riding. The perfect place to relax in sight and sound of ocean beyond the roses and dunes.
