About Andrew Wadsworth
In the early 19080's Andrew & Julie Wadsworth were the pioneers of London Dockland's urban regeneration. Setting up Jacob's Island Company in 1980 they acquired the adjoining derelict Victorian warehouses at New Concordia Wharf and China Wharf and oversaw these projects, from The Harpy. New Concordia Wharf won the Europa Nostra Conservation Gold Medal, the Royal Insitute of Chartered Surveyors & The Times Conservation Award and The Civic Trust Award, presented by HRH The Prince of Wales on his visit in 1987. China Wharf won the Dockland's Design Award and the Civic Trust Award and featured on the cover of the London Phone Book in 1990. The success of these schemes acted as a catalyst for the regeneration of an entire neighbourhood of 25 acres between The Harpy and Tower Bridge. Sir Terence Conran's Butler's Wharf completed the transformation. Andrew co-edited The Prince of Wales' Urban Villages Report on mixed-use planning and conservation of historic neighbourhoods. Julie went to Goldsmith's Art College, a contemporary of Damien Hirst and others who now define British modern art. After graduation, Julie set them up in makeshift studios in an old dog biscuit factory in Jacob Street from where the Freeze show was planned, establishing the careers of many of the new generation of British artists. The Harpy underwent a major refit in 2005. A redecoration and upgrade were completed in 2016. Andrew & Julie now spend much of their time at their country home in Dorset, enabling The Harpy to be available for holiday letting

Why Andrew Wadsworth chose Bermondsey
The Harpy Houseboat is at the forefront of one of London's most significant urban transformations; from derelict and unused buildings into one of the city's most vibrant neighbourhoods. With 1,850 sq. ft. of internal space and 2,500 sq. ft. of external decks, The Harpy is a generously sized home. The open plan living/dining/kitchen on the upper deck is 60ft long. On the lower deck, there are four double cabins, two and half bathrooms and a spacious hall.
What makes this House Boat unique
A few ducks quacking in the River as you sit on deck watching the sunset over Tower Bridge, but no traffic noise and yet right in the heart of London. With the postcard view of the most famous bridge in the world, The Harpy Houseboat is a magical place to stay. There are no fewer than nine restaurants between The Harpy and Tower Bridge, including Sir Terence Conran's Le Pont de la Tour where Prime Minister Tony Blair entertained Bill & Hillary Clinton, and a host of bars and cafes on your doorstep. Many of London's most visited historic sites; The Tower of London, St.Katherine's Dock, HMS Belfast, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and the Tate Modern, are all with walking distance along the riverside walk from the Harpy.

The Best Place to Stay in London
Stop looking. You have found the best place to say in London. What could be better than staying on a 4 bedroom house boat in the river Thames with a breathtaking unobstructed view of the Tower Bridge. I have just disembarked less than 24 hours ago and can not wait to plan a return visit. This boat was perfect for eight adults looking to take in the sites. The location is close to the tube, supermarkets, and pubs. Many nights we couldn't wait to get back to the Harpy and sit around the living room with a drink and snacks.
The houseboat is immaculate and there is everything you would ever need right on board...full kitchen, washer/dryer, huge tv, amazing sound system, and the best coffee maker I have ever used. Andrew was thorough in explaining everything, and there is a direct line to contact him should any issue arise.
You will not regret staying here. It is truly a unique experience far better than any hotel, or flat rental can offer.
Thank you so much for such a great review; honoured we are!
It was a pleasure have you stay and thank you for looking after The Harpy so well.
Look forward to seeing you again!
Best wishes to you all,
