I am a private pilot and could choose to have my vacation home anywhere; but I chose Spencer, TN. Why? Friendly folks, natural beauty, peaceful living. That's what I want in a vacation. You are close enough to Knoxville, Chattanooga or Nashville to go enjoy the Grand Ole Opre for an evening then come back out of civilization to the tranquility of the cabin.
Terry Carbonell purchased this cabin in 2006
There are 10 State Recreational Parks in the Cumberland Plateau area; miles of waterways and some of the friendliest people you will ever meet.
Fall Creek Falls is amazing but do not overlook the other attractions in the area: Burgess Falls, Rock Island Falls, Cumberland Caves, Edgar Evans State Park, the Centerhill Lake area and the red roof cabin at Mountain Crest!
While the area is beautiful - the red roof cabin at Mountain Crest IS your vacation destination. There is everything you could possibly need for a long term or a short terms stay. No worries if it rains: with over 400 movies, games, satellite TV and internet, there is no need to go anywhere else.
My favorite things to do at Mountain Crest:
1. Sit by the fire
2. Sleep by the fire
3. Work by the fire (do you see a theme here?)
4. Play games in the game room
5. Sit on the porch swing and watch the day go by
This cabin is literally by itself on the mountain top with expansive views from the entire back of the house. Whether sitting on the sofa, playing ping pong, or relaxing on one of two decks, you'll love the tree-top view of the mountain. With all the comforts of home, you might not want to leave. But do yourself a favor and check out Fall Creek Falls state park! It's a "can't miss" place. The only negative thing I can say is that the pillows are awful... Bring your own. But otherwise, this place is a favorite and accomadated our large group very well. We loved the huge kitchen table for meals and games.
We had a great family vacation at this property. The cabin was even nicer than it looked in the pictures. There were a couple questions that I asked by email to the owner and they were promptly answered. I would definitely recommend this property and look forward to a return visit!
Our family of fifteen really enjoyed our stay at this wonderful, private getaway. The cabin is in a great location near Falls Creek State Park, and the views in the area truly are spectacular. It offers the best of both worlds in a very private location with lots of peace and quiet but with easy access and nearby attractions. It is well maintained, clean and delightful. The owners have taken great care of the property, and the kitchen is very well equipped! You can relax and breathe easy here. Highly recommend.
My 2nd stay at this property. Never disappoints. Beautiful log home with a beautiful view. Great place to relax. Conveniently located next to Fall Creek Falls State Park.
Description was accurate and property was well maintained. Owner was very quick to respond to all my questions.
This was our group's second year having our annual FCF trip at the Red Roof Cabin. We had another great stay, and I would definitely recommend this cabin to other travelers.
This cabin felt like it was miles away from everything, yet it was conveniently located. The information and directions were accurate and easy to follow. We loved the quiet and just hearing the birds in the mornings. The pool table and ping pong gave our family great time together. We used the grill for dinner one night. We will stay there again. It was clean and well-maintained. Only suggestion would be to have Kleenex available and maybe update the towels. We visited the state park and water falls. Would definitely recommend this property.
Cabin sits on 5 acres on the side of the mountain. We have built a hiking trail to the bottom of the mountain where you can look out to see the expansive view from the bottom of the valley (January 2012). Just completed May 2012 is the hiking trail to the top of the mountain where you will be able to look down over the valley below.
