Description

Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday barn in Thollet - Moulin Serein

2 detached self contained cottages rented as a whole. 3 bed, 3 bathroom. Pool

Nestled in a beautiful valley alongside a small river the whole complex of Moulin Serein is rented as one to ensure privacy and tranquillity for our guests. This wonderful property offers two secluded cottages, a one bedroom and a two bedroom, both with their own kitchen, living and outside space - perfect for a group of friends or family.

The cottages were built in 1730 during the Renaissance and were owned by a community of monks. There were originally three buildings, one where the wheat was milled (working with a wheel), the mill and then a further building where the flour was stored and baked in the bread oven. The mill and the oven supplied the surrounding area in flour and bread. With the appearance of flour mills, the mill and oven were decommissioned in 1929. The hospitable owners have renovated two of the four buildings, two of the barns are not used as they have not been converted.

You can fish in the river which is quite shallow and has trout in it, the mill pond is deep and has a mixture of fish including carp. Please provide your own fishing equipment.

This is a great area for walking as there are sign posted walks that run from the property and can take you as far as 35km - although much shorter walks are possible. Moulin Serein is an ideal place to escape every day life, relax and enjoy the tranquility and freedom of the property, it's facilities and the beautiful surrounding countryside and nature.

Shops, cafe / bar and restaurant are found in the local town of La Trimouille, located about 8 km from the cottages, there is also a small supermarket, bakery, pharmacy and public tennis courts.

The small hamlet of Thollet is just 2 miles by road or approximately 1 mile to walk, there is a church and a small and very French local bar.

Each property is set on a hillside with many steps and slopes so unfortunately they are not suitable for those with limited mobility. Please see our photographs for further details.

All facilities are for your own private use, you rent both cottages, should you wish to hire just the one cottage we can offer a small reduction in price and the other cottage will remain closed.

Why David & Tracy HolidayCottagesandVillas chose Vienne

I personally love the tranquility of the setting, beautiful setting full of wildlife.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We came here for the 2nd time, it’s beautiful!

This year we were with friends.

There are many facilities like a swimming pool and a pingpong. Sometimes people come to the creek and we make fun all together.

The last few days the weather was not as good as before, but we still had fun.

Maybe we’ll come back next year for 2 weeks, 1 week is too short.

The house itself is beautiful, some things have changed this year like the bathroom.

So if things needs to be replaced, they will do it.

It’s really FANTASTIC!

Hopefully until next year.

Wonderful Break

  • 4 of 5

A lovely spot with two beautiful cottages. The wildlife was amazing so many firsts particular enjoyment of the lovely kingfisher. Lovely pool the only downside was on a sunny day the owner locked the pool before going out for the day as she thought the weather was going to be wet.the properties were clean and tidy but some of the equipment was very basic such as the knives and forks. The property was very remote 7 km to the nearest shop so you need to be organised on supplies. The owner had limited English but to be fair my French was as bad- she was very helpful though.there are badminton, boules and table tennis available. It didn't affect us but the property is on a very steep incline which could cause challenges for anyone with mobility issues. All in all a lovely place

Owner's Response: Dear Jackie. Thank you very much for taking the time to review your stay at Moulin Serein. We are really pleased that you enjoyed this stunning spot, and as you say, it's great for wildlife. We note your comment about the pool being locked one day, in the interest of balanced feedback we would like to respond as following your phone call to us that morning, we contacted the owner immediately who advised us that there is another gate which was open, so access to the pool was not restricted. I left a message on your mobile to that effect so I hope that you received it and were able to enjoy the pool. Once again, many thanks and we hope that we can help with your holiday plans again in the future. Kind regards, David & Tracy.

Holiday in France

  • 5 of 5

The property was fantastic and in a great location with tranquil, wide open spaces. The children loved the freedom of being able to ramble through the French country-side and fish in the nearby rivers. The swimming pool was a very welcome feature as temperatures hit 38C during our stay. For food lovers, the local restaurants and bars are not that good and are few and far between, but this did not detract from a great holiday. The wildlife and night sky are both worth looking out for.

The owners live nearby to the Gite and are very friendly but discreet ensuring their guests have a good, uninterrupted holiday. We would recommend this Gite for all that it offers for a family holiday

Owner's Response: Dear Carine. Thank you for your wonderful review of Moulin Serein. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay in what we think is a little piece of undiscovered paradise. It's lovely to hear that the children enjoyed exploring the beautiful countryside and fishing in the river...a true escape from modern day life. I have passed your comments onto the owners, Pascale and Bertrand, who are delighted that you had such an enjoyable holiday. We all hope that we can welcome you back again in the future. Best wishes, David & Tracy.

Fantastic cottage in beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

Setting is superb. It is a wildlife paradise.Very rural which is what we wanted. Wi-Fi was very useful for keeping in touch with home. Owner is very helpful. I ended up in hospital for 3 days and she was ready with support for my husband. The landline was invaluable as mobile signal not good. Found out that the French hospital system is excellent. Most doctors spoke English and at the end of the stay they made no charge. Just relaxed in the sun for the remaining part of my holiday which helped recharge my batteries. Would have no hesitation in returning to the property. A credit to Pascale and Bernard. P.S A fan in the bedroom would be welcome.

Owner's Response: Dear Christine. Thank you very much for taking the time to review your stay at Moulin Serein. I have passed your kind comments onto the owners, Bertrand & Pascal and have thanked them again for looking after you when you needed hospital treatment, it's a shame that this was needed during your holiday but we are glad to hear that you were well looked after by the French health system, you were certainly in the right place to relax and recover afterwards and we hope that we can arrange a return visit in the future for you. Best wishes, David & Tracy.
