Could have been great but ....
Pros: Very spacious with lots of room inside and out. Nice game room downstairs with TV.
Cons: 1. This property needs an alert for anyone that has asthma/allergy issues as it has a very intense musty, mildew smell that permeates everything. One person had to resort to her rescue inhaler. This is a serious issue!! 2. The home desperately needs a deep cleaning inside and out. Walking barefooted on the wood floor turned the bottom of my feet black with dirt. Dust and cobwebs were everywhere. The house would be much more appealing from the outside if it was power washed to remove the green mold and a broom would quickly clear out the spider webs. Speaking of which ... we searched high and low for a broom and mop and couldn't find one. With the rainy days we had we wanted to sweep the deck leaves off so they weren't tracked inside the house. We couldn't figure out how to work the TV and there were no directions anywhere. Come to find out one of the remotes was missing and we found it late on Saturday night inside the couch where it had fallen. Whoever cleans and sets the house for the next rental needs to make sure that both remotes are left on the coffee table. It should also be noted somewhere that extra towels and wash cloths are stacked on a shelf in the washer/dryer closet. Or better yet, put extra towels/cloths on the bed in the rooms where they are easy to find.
Most of this stuff is really very minor but if I had been staying for more than 2 nights I probably would have left immediately before unpacking a thing because of the mold and mildew. In the summer, for the past 20 years, I rent a house in Hilton Head for a week, sight unseen, and have never had a bad experience. So I was really surprised by this experience and would think twice before renting a home from VRBO in the future.
The cottage was very comfortable and clean. It was also very private and had wonderful access to the lake. It was spacious which was so nice. Also there was kayaks to use!
We stayed for four nights and absolutely enjoyed it. The owner was available easily and took care of our needs. Thank you!
Great weekend getaway spot!
We loved our stay at this cute cottage! It was so unbelievably clean, no bugs inside, and had plenty of room for us! We enjoyed the living room area the most due to some rain we experienced. But the windows and open feel of the layout was perfect. The dock was also awesome, quite the hike up and down, but worth it! Thanks for such a great stay! Definitely plan to come back again.
Great house and great location
Super clean house and the renter could not have been any nicer.
Very hot week at the racetrack
When we arrived for our stay we found the location with some help from owner and GPS, big help as the GPS takes you to the wrong side of the lake. It was a very hot 95 degree day and we had a long drive to arrive. When we got inside and started to turn the AC on it did not work so we looked and found a tripped breaker but still no fan on the AC but the outside unit was working fine. Made a contact to Mike and he helped with some suggestion of pulling the heat out and opening all the windows, whole house fan brought the temps down and he contacted his repairman but thought it might be a day or so for repair. He even went further and had his son go get four window air units and bring them out to install them for the night. The repair man also arrived in about an hour and found the blower fan which he had installed last fall was toast, he would get another and be back tomorrow for the full fix. The point in this is Mike went out of his way to get this fixed and he was more than helpful being in another state.
Now on to the house, it was in great shape and very clean with everything needed for our stay. Well stocked kitchen and nice grill outside. Good beds and ample seating. The trip down the stairs to the lake was fun but well worth the effort with a nice dock area in a little cove. The lake was a great relief to me since we were at a racetrack all day in the hot sun. Got back walked down and had a cool swim.
I would highly recommend this home/cabin to anyone! One of the best we have stayed at in our racing travels and we even had room to park our large trailer for the first evening before going to the track.
This is a very nice house with steps leading to a dock on the lake.
This a super place.
