About Joan Gara

I am a retired school teacher. I grew up in NJ, and moved to Tybee in 1996. Tybee Island is unique with it's quiet beaches, lots of live music, and excellent restaurants! I fell in love with the community, with the cool breezes, and the sand in my toes. It is my belief that you will too!

Joan Gara purchased this condo in 1996

Why Joan Gara chose Tybee Island

I loved the location. The beach, accompanied with the pool right beside my steps, was just too much to pass up! Everyone was so kind, and welcoming.

What makes this condo unique

Dolphin Watching from your balcony, that are trailing behind picturesque Shrimp Boats!

The condo was extremely clean and comfy and in a perfect location on the first floor! I would definitely stay again! My first trip to Tybee island was wonderful! Can't wait to come back next year!

Good location - tiny and outdated condo

  • 1 of 5

Pretty good location - nice access to the beach. The condo itself is very small though, outdated, and in need of some repairs. The TV isn't much bigger than a computer screen. I fell asleep on the sofa and ended up with bed bug bites - My wife didn't have any, so I don't think they were in the bed. The last trip we took to this area, we stayed at the King and Prince on Saint Simon which was a much nicer area - we'll probably stick to Saint Simon in the future.

Owner's Response: Hi Scott,  So sorry to hear the condo was not a good match for you. I take any criticism very seriously. I had an inspector immediately over to the condo to check the couch for bugs and he assured me there were none. I also checked with my rental who arrived after your departure and there were no problems.Possibly gnats came in the open door?  I would really like to take care of the repairs you say it needs, so please let me know. I have a contractor waiting for a break in my rentals so he can install my new range hood and finish his quarter round trim around the new tile floor, if there is something else, he will be happy to take care of it for me. The condo itself was completely remodeled after our last hurricane that came in September, 2017, so the condo was just updated.I would appreciate your recommendations and will handle any repairs necessary.  Please take a moment to let me know how I can improve it for future guests.  Thank you and  Sincerely,  Joan Gara

Great little place right on the Savannah River with an Atlantic view too!

  • 5 of 5

Great spot for my wife & I to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Easy access to the pool & the beach. A short walk gets you to the ocean too. The boat traffic on the Savannah River was incredible! 1200 foot cargo ships to Coast Guard Cutters to shrimp boats right out in front of the balcony. Close to all that Tybee Island has to offer with less traffic. Also, could hop on Tybee Road to go to Savannah. Be sure to walk over to the shoppes at Three Oaks & try Huca Poos pizza (may not look like much on outside [or inside]; however, best pizza we had on our trip). Parking lot was close & only a single flight of stairs helped too.

Great view of the sound, good beach access

  • 4 of 5

A great place for a quick few days at the beach. Good location if you like being off the beaten path, and good beach access to the sound side of Tybee. Wished we had a kayak or paddle board. Convenient to good restaurants, and Wilmington Island. Very clean and accommodating. Thanks for having us!!

This is not the beach. This resort is on a wide riverbank. The listing read "where the Savannah River meets the Atlantic." THis a nice resort a long walk to the ocean. it is not "near the ocean" as stated. It not within walking distance of the lighthouse. That is a 30 to 40 minute walk away one way. I have no problem with the resort itself--attractive, nice pool, well-maintained, etc., but it is not on the ocean and that is what I requested. The one bedroom condo we rented was old, the appliances in bad repair, the microwave and refridge really dirty, so I house cleaned for thirty minutes before I could put way food. Wires running across bedroom floor and jutting out wall alongside bed were trip hazards since bedroom so small, (small not a problem), the room was dirty, bedspread so big it was a trip hazard. The area rug I living room curled on corner and it was a trip hazard. The stove had drawer falling off marked by yellowing tape and paper (old). The kitchen and living room were same room, not a problem, but the dishwasher is so loud, we could not stay in the condo, so it was unusable. 1 dish towel, one dish cloth, face cloths so old and rough they were threadbare and gave one a facial peel. A little money and care would make this a lovely little condo, but at this point it is a dump and not "near the ocean." Other guests we spoke with were also misled by river to ocean symantics and were also unhappy with location, but we were only ones with dumpy accommodations. I may sound like a really grumpy old lady; I am not, but this was our 51st wedding anniversary and the listing, pictures , etc. we're totally misleading even for one couple who had been to Tybee Island many times when their daughter lived there for several years. This was our first visit and I doubt we will ever stay on Tybee again. If I want riverfront, I'll stay in Savannah, great town.
