About the property

Newly refurbished apartment in a small freighter docked in the Houthaven harbor.

This newly refurbished apartment is in the captain's quarter of Amsterdam Houthavens "of the freighter. It is a cozy, romantic and comfortable. The lounge in the captain's steering cabin above deck offers a beautiful 360 view of the old Amsterdam Houthavens (lumber harbor), the IJ (the main waterway to the harbor) and the city. Below deck there is a seperate sleeping area; a dining / living area with a small, but fully equipped kitchenette; and bathroom with shower and toilet.

Such a special place in a great city! Dana is a beautiful ship with all the comforts!

  • 5 of 5

Upon arrival we were greated by Dana, she welcomed us and showed us her ship. A lot of the work she has done herself and it makes it all the more special to stay on. The location is right at the end of a quiet pier so it’s nice and private. The ship is within walking distance of everything you would want to do in Amsterdam. We couldn’t fault this amazing ship and the host. Thanks for having us Dave and Meaghan.

This was a very fun and special stay on a houseboat!

  • 5 of 5

The owner of the boat made this experience exceptional. The boat is very clean, well equipped and pleasant to stay on. I was worried about it being heated- it was warm! Plenty of hot water in the shower as well. I enjoyed sleeping in wheelhouse- it poured rain one night and I loved hearing that. My husband preferred the sleeping quarters below as it was more quiet . We really enjoyed meeting Dana- she’s charming!!!

Absolutely perfect !!!

  • 5 of 5

We were met at the ship Dana by Greita as arranged, she is an amazingly friendly informative person who couldn’t do enough for us. The ship was just perfect for me and my wife. It’s about a 25 min walk into the center of Amsterdam with several bars along the way. The gentle sway of the boat led to 4 great night sleep. The shower and loo are perfectly adequate and we felt very cosy and safe.

Fantastic, authentic Amsterdam experience. A must!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay in the beautifully designed and furnished captain quarters this past weekend. My husband and I had the most peaceful sleep on the incredibly comfortable bed. The captain's accommodations were well cared for and incredibly clean. It had everything we could have needed during our stay complete with a chilled bottle of wine in the refrigerator upon our arrival. We enjoyed it along with the picturesque view from the cozy pilot's deck. Neives did a great job hosting us making sure we had all the information for our weekend in Amsterdam. The location isn't in the center of the city (a bit chaotic and overrun with tourists) but is an easy walk or Vespa/bike ride away. Only 15-20 minute walk from great dining and tourists spots in the area of Jordaan. We opted for the Vespa and had a great time traversing the streets of the city. Highly recommend the houseboat experience for an authentic stay in Amsterdam!

Wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

This was a beautiful ship with full amenities. I was surprised at how much was offered in the quarter. The shower had good pressure and hot water (I have had incidents at other hotels in Europe where that was not the case). It was clean and bright and cheery. The linens and towels were fresh and clean as was the cookware, including the microwave and mini fridge. The view was great, the ship is located at the end of the pier and you have a full view of the surrounding harbour. It was lovely having a cup of coffee in the captains steering hood in the morning. It was great to have free wifi and it was so close to central station and other tram lines that it was a prime location for the sights. Everything is in walking distance if you're up for the adventure of Amsterdam. Great hostess as well.

The Dana is docked in the old Houthavens (lumber harbor). The Houthavens is a fascinating combination of old industrial harbor buildings and modern architectural design; residential, small business and artist / craftsmen studios. The Houthavens are in the Maritime Heros area and adjacent to the Western Isles - one of the oldest island neighborhoods of Amsterdam and the old sailor quarters of Amsterdam. It is one of Amsterdam's secret locations and few tourists come here. It is within walking distance of the renowned Haarlemmerdijk shopping area and the trendy Jordaan. There is a (organic) food market on Saturday and Wednesday and flee market on Monday in the vicinity. The historic canal belt is within walking distance. Guests can take the free ferry through the harbor area and the new EYE Film Museum. Other areas of the city (in the museum district and fashion district) can be reached by bus. There is gym in the area.
