This property is located 45 minutes from Glacier International Airport. It is also a 45 minute drive to Glacier National Park. 10 minutes to Flathead Lake and 4 miles from National Geographic featured Jewell Basin. It is a thirty minute drive to the beautiful Mission Mountains. The area is very serene and quiet, and the water is the warmest lake in the area.
Additional fee for any group larger than 10, no groups larger than 12.
I am a High School teacher at Columbia Falls Montana and my wife and I have three children we raised at this beautiful home. We built this home but had to move closer to schools for our children and now we are renting it hoping to be able to move back into it when we retire.
Dan Fairbank purchased this house in 1989
This was our first stay at Echo Lake. The home sits slightly uphill from the lake about 100 feet away. There is a nice dock and the owner provided a paddle boat, canoe, and row boat, all nice additions. The water in the lake is noticeably warmer than other lakes in the area, so makes for better swimming and water activities, something we all enjoyed. There isn't much of a beach area, just waterline, but the slope in is gradual.
As for the house, it is an older house and needs some touch ups here and there. It has lots of space upstairs and down. The downstairs is noticeably cooler. The location is good, just off the Echo Lake Road, and far enough in so traffic noise is not a problem. There is a cement parking pad at the entrance with a basketball hoop set up for those interested. The lakeside deck is a nice addition, though, the decking does appear to need some refinishing, and the owner warns about excessive weight on it. We didn't, however experience any problems.
We experienced only two problems during our stay. One was that the upstairs of the house gets very warm during the day, as others have mentioned. (It happened to be very warm the week we were there, not usually a problem in Montana). We had three fans going to keep the temperature down. A great addition would be some insulated or reflective curtains on the living room windows. We hung up some sheets, but I think curtains would help a lot.
The other problem we experienced was with some of the furniture. It needs help to really make this an even better rental. The three futons downstairs definitely need new mattresses. They are very thin, and we found them uncomfortable to even sit on. Also, the mattresses on the two single beds downstairs are just worn out. They might work for kids, but for us, who were adults, they were marginal at best. The best beds were the two large ones upstairs, and they were good, and of course, the ones everyone wanted. Improvements with the beds offered would greatly enhance the quality of the rental.
The owners were busy, but responsive. He indicated he had just retired and hoped to have more time to make some improvements. We would recommend this facility with the caveats I mentioned above. It really is a good lakeside home, and we all enjoyed our time there.
The house is right on the lake, and features suitable bedroom/bathroom arrangements for multiple families. Access to the lake is right there, and it has a hot tub too! The house was clean and the kitchen had everything we needed. The owner was there if we needed anything. Our families are thinking about coming back again, so I would recommend it to others! The only downfalls was that the main room didn't have shades over the windows so it got hot in the afternoon/evenings, and although we enjoyed the deck, it needs to be updated. We enjoyed playing on the lake, going to Glacier, golfing at Eagle Bend, walking the river road, and going to dinner in downtown Bigfork. Thanks again for the great fun!
This was a great place to spend some quiet time with the family. Very nice, well kept house. 10 of us stayed there and we didn't feel cramped at all! Right on the water- great fishing and swimming. The little boat worked great. All and all a great stay, would recomend it to anyone.
There is an abundance of hiking trails close to our area as well as several lakes to go boating on if one desires. We have a dock to put your boat if you desire to bring one. Included is a paddle boat, canoe and several water toys. Our lake is one of the best bass and pike lakes in the area, but one can easily charter fishing on Flathead Lake for large lake trout. Our house is on one acre with 100 feet of lake front. Available in the area is a Waterpark, Whitewater rafting, Some of the most prestine golf courses in the northwest, a nice playground just down the road. We are just an hour away from Glacier National park. 45 minutes from Whitefish mountain resort which has a zip line and several summer activities.
You will not regret spending your vacation in our home.
