Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday villa in Gaula - Villa Verde

Three-bedroom modern villa with pool and all the facilities

Villa Verde is one of three villas situated at Quintinha au Sol, TV's 'My Place in the Sun'. They are newly built and privately owned. Quintinha au Sol is a small rural property located in Gaula which is about 300 metres directly above Santa Cruz and less than 10 minutes from the airport. There are spectacular views over the bay of Abra, towards the Deserta Islands and to Ponto Sao Lorenço, the eastern tip of Madeira. At the same time Gaula is only twenty minutes from the centre of Funchal.

The villa is ideally situated for walkers and golfers - the Gaula levada, which is at the eastern end of the 'Levada dos Tornos', is less than 5 kilometres away and the two internationally famous golf courses, Palheiro and Santa da Serra, are both less than15 minutes by car.

With large balconies, terraced areas and mature gardens surrounding the villa, there is ample choice of seating and relaxing areas.............ideal for al fresco dreaming, drinking and dining!

Villa Verde is licensed for tourism under the strictly-regulated Madeiran 'Alojemente Locale' scheme (AL). The scheme requires holiday villas to conform to high safety, quality, service and insurance standards. For example, in the interests of safety, the villas only have electric equipment; there are no gas appliances. Mosquito nets are fitted to all bedroom windows. There is a WiFi internet connection and Satellite TV with 200+ channels

Guestbook comments from the manager

We picked the three bedroomed villa which proved to be superb accommodation. An attractive pool contained within the patio was very popular with all the family. We also had wonderful sea views across the bay. The nearby Championship Golf Course proved to be the icing on the cake. Overall a terrific holiday!

Lovely villa, lovely location, lovely service

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at the villa for a week in June 2016. With a family of 6, the 3 bedrooms were more than sufficient and the living space and kitchen were a great size. There is a huge amount of outside space, surrounded by gardens and, most impressively, a delightful view across the ocean. A car is certainly recommended due to the terrain but we had a great time just using taxis which were cheap and very friendly and allowed us to enjoy the local wine and beer 

Everything in the villa was in great order, very clean, and the pool was great. The outdoor stone BBQ make for ideal evenings. The owners were nearby during our visit and were amazingly hospitable, providing lots of information and help whenever needed - they even have numbers for very friendly and reasonable taxis. Additionally, upon arrival the owners had provided a complimentary bottle of wine, fruit, bread, and a number of basics. Very highly recommended and I wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else should I return to Madeira! Thanks a lot Mervyn and Margaret and Peter. Best, Nathan

Villa Verde mid-February 2016

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Villa Verde for one week and found the property to be ideal for 4-6 people. The accommodation is spacious, elegant and well equipped particularly the kitchen. Own drive and dedicated parking, pool with spacious terrace and ample loungers and a delightful, secluded garden with a burgeoning avocado tree made for a v. pleasant stay. Our arrival was made particularly enjoyable by the warm welcome from Peter and Fiona Marsland from Madeira Island Direct, local agents for the property. Grocery essentials, a detailed tour of the villa, location of local supermarkets and to crown it all, a bottle of quality Madeira to get into the spirit of this paradise of an island! Particularly useful advice was to be selectively critical of all-Europe satnav device recommendations regarding routes. We quickly learnt to stick to main "ER" roads rather than narrow, often steep shortcuts.

Walking levadas and the high routes around Pico Arieiro/Ruivo was stupendous, especially after a rare, overnight snowfall above 4000ft that had local people out in boots and ski clothes throwing snowballs and building bonnet-top snowmen at the weekend. The Sao Laorenco Peninsula walk is close by and a superb walk with unrivalled views and volcanic, desert-like vegetation. We will definitely stay at this villa again in the future as we have been bitten by the Madeira bug.

Fantastic views

  • 5 of 5

We were looking forward to this desperately needed holiday and it really did live up to the expectations. Steep approach so used the car a lot of the time, but easy enough to walk out to local cafes. Villa was spotless and the housekeeper very friendly and helpful. Couldn't fault anything really, but the views of the headland out beyond the airport is what we will remember.

Glorious holiday

  • 5 of 5

Late summer holiday but the weather was perfect! The villa provided an ideal base for exploring the island - Funchal was just 15 minutes away (you do need a car), but mostly we headed for the mountains and went walking the levadas. Amazing scenery - the views for the villa are stunning. Internally the accommodation lacked nothing, as you would expect for a premium property, and the local agent and housekeeper were very helpful. The pool was warmer than we expected for this time of year. Highly recommended.

Great late escape

  • 5 of 5

Last minute autumn break and the villa lived up to all expectations. Negotiations promptly handled by the manager and housekeeper waiting to meet us 15 minutes after we left the airport. The villa itself has everything - as you would expect at the price - whilst the scenery out towards the end of the island is an addictive view! Kids loved the pool which was clean. Lovely private garden are where you can sit in the shade and read. Steep approach, but I suppose that gives you the views, so being lazy we took the car regularly. Ask the housekeeper about the different places to eat locally.

Car: recommended

A considerable amount of investment has recently been made in the sea-front areas in Machico (15 mins by car), Santa Cruz (7 mins by car), Canical (20 mins by car) and Canico de Baixo (10 mins by car). All provide excellent swimming and sea front facilities for holiday makers; throughout the winter, the sea temperatures (18-22 degrees) are often 2-4 degrees higher than the air temperature. Costs for refreshments and lunch at these centres, are very reasonable by European standards, even in Funchal a lunch (dish of the day and pudding with a glass of wine and a coffee) can be had for €5.50. A 30 minute coast walk can be enjoyed at Santa Cruz where there is also an impressive modern aquaparque near Sao Pedro.

If you enjoy walking, you will be spellbound by the unique experience of the famous Levada walks, a number of which can be found in the area. There are excellent walking alternatives on this enchanting island - most are accompanied by a vital element; water, and an ancient Forest which has survived from the tertiary era; the Laurissilva Forest (UNESCO World Heritage site). These factors make walking on Madeira island totally unique and the hillsides in this locality are an excellent place to start.
