About Dudley & Liz Sloggett

Dudley and Liz who are retired and live in Surrey, have a daughter who lives in Woodbridge with her husband with their three sons.

We decided to purchase a cottage close to them as a second home. Because we were not using it enough, we decided to let it for holiday use and visit when there are vacancies!

Dudley & Liz Sloggett purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Dudley & Liz Sloggett chose Suffolk

Our criteria was for the location to be close to Woodbridge in a sort after quiet location. After extensive searching we found Ivydene, adding an extension and totally renovated the whole cottage to a high standard (Liz is an interior designer). We also required a south facing rear garden with a lawn and car/boat parking.

What makes this cottage unique

Ivydene is in an attractive quiet sort after location, very close to the river Deben, with sailing, walks, cycling, fishing and golfing amenities on the doorstep. Close by you can enjoy good food and/or a drink at the Maybush Inn.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Lovely cottage in a beautiful location with lots to do and see. Atmosphere and food in the Maybush was excellent.

Lovely Cosy Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Lovely relaxing family weekend in a very cosy cottage. There are some lovely walks around the village of Waldringfield but you are also in easy reach of many of other interesting spots. We did have a minor problem with the heating but the owner came out quickly to fix it and it was nice to meet him.

The property is certainly top notch.

  • 5 of 5

We both believe that Ivydene in the flesh, so to speak, lived up to all of the comments on the website and the reviews that we read beforehand. It was a pleasure to stay there. The fixtures and fittings were of a very high standard and we particularly liked the floor covering in the kitchen diner.

The "Maybush" is a decent place to eat but not so good when the wind blows and you are eating outside. Nice area although a little quiet. Thanks.

A relaxing home from home

  • 5 of 5

Ivydene is a wonderfully cosy cottage and an ideal base for discovering the villages and towns of Suffolk. It has been modernised really well and was spotlessly clean on our arrival. The Maybush Inn situated on the banks of the river Deben is 30 yards away and serves good food and a fantastic breakfast. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Ivydene to others and hope to return at some stage in the future.

A great Christmas in Waldringfield

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this delightful cottage over Christmas and used it as a base for visiting relatives in the Woodbridge area. The location was excellent with walks along the Deben estuary from the door. Very quiet area, ideal for a relaxing holiday. The cottage itself was cosy, clean, comfortable and with interior very well designed for appearance and practical use. We would definitely recommend this accommodation to others and look forward to our next stay.

Three Night Doggy Brake

  • 3 of 5

Loved the house (very high speck) garden, location & everything about the lovely cottage. However! we had probs from the get go, with the cleaner turning up after we had arrived saying we wernt meant to be there?? (she was a lovely girl & very sorry she had been given wrong info), we showed her our paperwork, she did what she had to do & left. 48hrs later she was back to say the booking agent was sure we were not meant to be there, so we rang owner who said to stay as no one due till the Fri.......After a sleepless night thinking i made a mistake, i couldnt wait to get home & check my laptop.....I was releaved to find i wasnt going mad & the mistake had been made by booking agent (why i dont know as reciept was very clear), i contacted owner who was very sorry & said he would get on to agent..........I really would like to stay again, but would be a bit anxious this would happen again.......Also a bit dissapointing, we never got an apology from people whe made mistake....Good brake spoiled ;-(Regards Maureen Furlong.

Owner's Response: We have tried to discover how this misinformation happened and have had a number of phone calls with HomeAway. Unfortunately they have not been able to discover how the wrong information happened! It certainly was not the guests or my fault. It had never happened before and hopefully will not happen again.

Provisions. M&S Simply Food and Tesco are at Martlesham just off the A12, There is a farm shop at Newbourne. Excellent prepared frozen meals from 'Cook' and an award winning bakery in Woodbridge.

Waldringfield is a charming village on the south side of the River Deben. It is only 1.5 hours by car from London. Cambridge or Norwich are just an hour away, yet we find ourselves able to enjoy the sense of peace and quiet. Our cottage is just 40 meters from the River Deben and the Maybush Inn right on the waterfront, where you can enjoy excellent food and a drink on the terrace overlooking the river and boating activities.

Along the waterfront there is a very active sailing club and a sandy beach where children can amuse themselves and go swimming, crabbing or fishing. Waldringfield golf club is just up the hill and is open to non-members. Bicycle hire is available locally.

Places to visit in Suffolk.
