Scottish Hill Farm Cottage by shores of Loch Creran, near Oban, Sleeps 4-6

West Ferlochan is a well appointed 4* traditional Scottish Hill Farm cottage by the shores of Loch Creran which is designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). Fully modernised in 2011, it comfortably sleeps 4-6 in two double bedrooms with an additional twin children’s bedroom. With a fully equipped and modern kitchen/diner and comfortable lounge with open fire, it makes an ideal base to explore the beautiful West Highlands of Scotland and the Scottish Isles. Oban, which is the “Gateway to the Scottish Isles”, is less than 10 miles; Fort William, considered to be the 'outdoor capital of the UK', is less than a hour's drive away. The cottage is part of a 220-acre working farm which is home to the internationally known Mottistone Fold of Highland Cattle, including many Scottish Champions. There are many walks across the farm and up to Sguir Mhor which offers spectacular and panoramic views across Loch Creran to the mountains beyond. Good size utility for storing boots/coats. The Big Question Is...........

First impression on arrival is that of a well maintained farmyard cottage set in lovely countryside situated well back from the main road and with plenty parking. Sandra gave us a warm welcome and showed us around the cottage which itself is clean, well maintained and appointed. The accommodation is comfortable homely and quite spacious (exception being the 3rd bedroom), there is always plenty hot water and you have control over the central heating. Upstairs bedrooms have delightful views over the loch and they share a nice bathroom with shower over bath. Downstairs a spacious kitchen/dining area with large dining table. A couple of points here; food preparation would be enhanced with a wider range of saucepans including a larger frypan, especially for 6 guests. Secondly, on a very positive note, the toaster packed up on our first day and was promptly replaced with a new one the next! The lounge is very comfortable with a nice feel to it, good TV and effective Wi-Fi which has a 'reasonable use' limit (or pay a little extra) but 4 of us all with iPads and laptops had no problem with the limit. There's family games and plenty of local information too. Mobile signal is not good however there is a landline supplied (no charge for normal calls). At the rear of the cottage there is a very useful utility room where two very old and working Belfast sinks have been retained, this echoes some other nice original features in the cottage. Next the utility room is a neat toilet with shower cubicle. The 3rd bedroom is a bit compact and with limited cupboard space, the bedside lighting isn't ideal either. An earlier guest had youngsters who had referred to it affectionally as their 'cave'; I wouldn' quite say that but it is neat; however it has scope I feel to utilise an out -building to enhance its comfort considerably. Outside, the garden and grounds are well maintained and form part of a working farm with show-piece Highland Cattle on site. Willie took us to the barn and told all about the cattle whilst he was grooming them for a Show (we got some super photos)....they have many trophies and this was a highlight of our stay. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. And so to the big question......would we return? The answer is Yes, without any hesitation! Ferlochan Cottage is a welcoming, comfy and homely place to stay.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and would like to return without hesitation. Turning to one or two points you raised regarding your stay at West Ferlochan, we had noticed the large frying pan had gone "walkabouts" and has now been replaced. We will look into the lack of adequate lighting in the downstairs (children's) bedroom and see what we can do to improve the situation. With regards to extending out into the outbuildings to increase the size and comfort of the third bedroom, unfortunately this is too big a project, which was considered at the time of the renovation works to the cottage. We certainly look forward to welcoming you back.

Beautiful Cottage for Intergenerational family

This cottage was perfect. Beautiful location, well maintained, cozy, clean and quiet. The owners thought of every convenience for the traveler. The kitchen was well stocked, the layout is perfect for grandparents traveling with children and grandchildren, providing a separate bedroom away from the commotion of the kitchen and upstairs bedrooms. Near Oban shops and restaurants with small market a mile away. Close to hiking and biking in the Highlands. The cottage manager was friendly, responsive and close by. The farm manager patiently introduced the children to the workings of the farm. If you are from US, be sure to mention to office manager who will help you with payment arrangements.

wonderful cottage

El cottage está situado en una zona maravillosa, la playa está en el mismo pueblo de Benderloch. La casa es super comoda , espaciosa y acogedora, no le falta detalle y muy bien decorada. Los muebles son de buena calidad y en muy buen estado, así como la vajilla y los electrodomésticos. Todo está impecable y super limpio.Al lado de la casa hay una zona en donde los niños pueden jugar a sus anchas y disfrutar viendo las vacas de los Highlands !!!.

Se pueden hacer decenas de visitas culturales o paseos para los amantes de la naturaleza, las islas estan bien conectadas desde Oban.

The cottage is spacious and comfortable, and well-decorated. The cottage is in a beautiful position near the beach in Benderloch. It is really comfortable, clean, and very well furnished and equipped. Everything is perfect.

We had a lovely relaxing week and We recommend the cottage for those who enjoy the outdoors with children (they can play just in front of the house and see the Highlands cows !!!!)

Le cottage se trouve à côté de la mer , la plage se trouve à Benderloch. La maison est spacieuse et confortable, très bien équpée. L'ameublement et l'équipement sont de bonne qualité. Tout est impécable et très propre. Prairie permettant les jeux d'enfant au sein de la propriété. De nombreuses visites dans les environs sont possibles: randonnées, visites culturelles, et les îles depuis Oban...
