About the property

3 double beds, 2 baths + large kitchen and dining area

Built in local stones the villa has an extraordinary external and internal charm, which accords very well with the local environment whilst representing a spacious accommodation with all modern facilities in a user-friendly design with an ambience of comfort and cosiness.

The size is 120m2, which holds:

= Kitchen / dining area and lounge (ground floor)

= 3 double bedrooms (1 on the ground floor and 2 on the 1st floor)

= Spacious bathroom with toilet, bidet and shower (1st floor)

= Small laundry room with washing machine (1st floor)

= Bathroom with toilet and shower (pool area)

The interior is furnished in Scandinavian style mixed with selected antiques. The kitchen is well equipped with quality tableware including plates and cutlery for 12 persons, a large refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, gas stove and an electric oven. Casa Vecchia is always stocked with local virgin olive oil, and if you are interested in buying local virgin olive oil, we recommend Giorgia who is the owner of Bar la Posta in Pigna: They make and sell a very well tasting local olive oil produced from the Taggiasca species.

During the meticulous and lengthy renovation of the original 18th century edifice the owner decided for a thorough insulation of the villa. Hence the off-season get-away or long weekends are highly popular as the villa is equipped with central heating (gas) and a nice wood-burning stove on the ground floor with free access to firewood.

The large south facing and furnished terrace just outside the kitchen offers plenty of opportunity to stay outdoors for many months of the year. The garden layout is informal with lawns, olive trees, a variety of fruit trees and you are cordially invited to enjoy the fruits.

The private swimming pool located next to the villa measures 5 x 14 meters with the depth varying from 1,20 to 2,20 meters, it is equipped with an automatic salt water chlorination system thereby avoiding chlorine fumes. Around the pool is a sizeable terrace (100m2) with deck chairs etc.

Lounging around the private pool is of course a favourite pastime, but another well-liked outdoor activity is a game of petanque / boccia. So equip yourself with the inevitable glass of pastis with a dash of cold water, and get on with this hugely popular local “sport”. The area offers several nice strolls or hikes (written guide or map available in the villa).

The neighbourhood is very safe with a minimum of noise and light pollution making any stay a very tranquil and serene experience. Even so most guests have a need to be online from time to time and there is free wifi (3G/4G hence not suited for gaming and movie downloads etc.). Network name and password labelled on the back of the door to the cupboard above the fridge. Loud speakers to be connected to a computer are also available.

The property is gated and there is ample of free parking spaces just next to the villa.

With proper advance notice it is possible to organise a local lady (Italian speaking only) to come up from Pigna and do a cooking session. The concept is that she will bring up all the ingredients/food plus a few of her own cooking utensils and then she will cook with you as audience and/or participant! She is a well skilled chef and will introduce you to the simplicity of very tasty local and Italian food.

  • In addition to duvets and pillows all bedrooms are furnished with sufficient wardrobe space, chairs, large mirror and 2 bedside tables with drawers (all beds are proper beds NOT pull-out beds). The sofa in the lounge sleeps one adult; hence the villa sleeps 7 adults very comfortably. Furthermore a queen size air mattress is available (with electric pump). It can be fitted into the largest bedroom providing extra sleeping spaces for children.

Entspannte Tage

Ein wunderbares Haus in traumhafter Lage, perfekt ausgestattet und super organisiert (die Buchung usw. war angenehm unkompliziert).

Der Pool mit dem wunderbaren Ausblick ist toll.

Die Gegend hat unglaublich viel zu bieten (gutes Essen, charmante Dörfer, nette Menschen, Radfahren, Wandern, Meer, Nähe zu Monte Carlo, Nizza usw. ). Wir (2 Familien mit Kinder im Kindergartenalter) haben sehr erholsame und entspannte Tage verbracht und würden wieder kommen.

PS: Wir haben versucht die Mücken mit Mitteln, Kleidung, Gerüchen usw. zu bekämpfen - auch mit zusätzlichen Moskitonetzen in den Schlafräumen

Ein gemuetliches und hochwertig ausgestattetes Traumhaus! Grill, Olivenoel, Klopapier, Putzmittel, war einfach alles da. Das Haus und das riesige Grundstueck sind sehr gepflegt, wofuer das nette „Hausmeisterehepaar“ Laura und Alessandro sorgt. Aber auch der Vermieter war jederzeit ueber Mail zu erreichen.

Die Muecken haben wir mit Citronella- Kerzen, Autan und ausreichend Kleidung versucht fern zu halten (was trotzdem leider nicht immer gelang). Die Schlafraeume sind aber alle mit Fliegengittern ausgestattet.

Die Lage des Hauses bietet unzaehlige verschiedene Moeglichkeiten zu einem vielseitigen Urlaub: Wandern, Monaco, Marineland,... und natuerlich der traumhafte Pool. Wenn man sich zu einem Urlaub in diesem Haus entschließt muss man sich aber darueber im Klaren sein, dass man viel Zeit im Auto verbringt. Wir mochten die Abgeschiedenheit gerne, waeren nach zwei Wochen gerne noch laenger geblieben und planen auf alle Faelle wieder zu kommen!

P.S. Besonders lecker und nett haben wir im „Sul Ponte“ in Pigna gegessen.

Wundberbare Tage

Wir hatten eine sehr schöne und entspannte Zeit in dem Haus. Das Haus war/ist sehr gepflegt und sehr gut ausgestattet, es hat an keinen Küchenutensilien, Klopapier, Müllbeuteln, Geschirrtüchern oder irgend etwas anderem gefehlt.

Die Zimmer sind ideal ausgestattet und auch die Matratzen sind gut. Das Bad ist sehr geräumig und der Raum mit der Waschmaschine gleich nebenan, ebenfalls gepflegt und sehr praktisch.

Wir waren mit drei kleinen Kindern da und können das Haus für einen Urlaub mit Kleinkindern weiterempfehlen. Auf dem Grundstück befinden sich auch Obstbäume und Abends kommen einen Glühwürmchen und Kröten besuchen.

Wir würden wieder kommen.

Idyllisch, abgelegen und erholsam!!!

Wir waren im September 2013 mit 4 Personen in dem Häuschen. Positiv war der großzügige Pool mit guter Ausstattung (Rollliegen/Sonnenschirme, Luftmatratze...), das zweite WC mit Dusche unterhalb des Pools und der große, offene Wohnraum mit Küche. Weiterhin positiv war das großzügige Areal, was die Unterbringung der Autos und Motoräder einfach gestaltete.

Eher nervig war das tagsüber andauernde Gehupe der Autos, welche die engen Straßen um Pigna befahren und vor nahezu jeder Kurve warnen. Unvermeidlich, aber wie beschrieben, nervig. Und die kleinen, fiesen Mücken, die uns abends das "Draußen-Sitzen" erschwerten.

Insgesamt waren die 3 Wochen sehr erholsam. Man kann vom Gelände ab Enduro fahren, Mountainbiken oder Wandern. Zum Einkaufen muss man leider den Abstieg ins Tal und die Fahrt nach Camporossa oder Ventimiglia in Kauf nehmen.

Alles in allem war es ein super Urlaub, zu einem fairen Preis!!!

The Italian Riviera is, along with the French, an extensive coastline with great pleasures abound. It provides ever changing scenery with beautiful bays adorned with architectural gems of the villas and summer residences built before the world turned apart by wealthy Europeans who escaped here with their wives, children and nannies to enjoy summer in the Mediterranean.

Enjoy the cosy atmosphere of the many virtually together-build towns along the coast, where in particular Bordighera (20 km) and San Remo (30 km) are highlighted for their unique charm.

San Remo is renowned for its casino housed in a wonderful Art Nouveau building from 1905 designed by the architect Eugène Ferret. Also, every February San Remo hosts the legendary Italian Music Festival attracting large swarms of Italian celebrities as audience as well as performers (Woody Allen on clarinet). Learn more on

Within 40 km you find the legendary Casino in Monaco next to the famous Hotel de Paris. This spot has been location to several movies (James Bond), and sipping a café latte on Le Café de Paris is a popular pastime while maybe catching a glimpse of celebrities and certainly expensive cars!

Liguria has proudly achieved one red wine Rossese di Dolceacqua on the Italian DOCG list, so wine tastings are possible in and around Dolceacqua (10 km). The closest winery (5 km) is Cantina Gajaudo (

If you are into shopping, the entire stretch from San Remo in the east to Cannes in the west offers a vast range of possibilities, in addition to a myriad of street markets (information available in the house).

Golf can be played in San Remo (, however in France (Cote d’Azur) you have a larger selection of golf courses. A day trip by car or train will take you skiing. The nearest resort is the Italian Limone ( and from Nice/Cannes you can reach other ski resorts.

Besides the inevitable beach and pool life the kids should visit Marineland in Antibes: Many unforgettable holiday moments are waiting here (also for grown-ups!).

Several world famous painters have lived at the French Riviera or in Provence and the many museums provide a great opportunity to relish their art. Find Matisse at and Picasso, Chagall and Fleger at Chateau Grimaldi in Antibes also holds a Picasso selection giving you ample of reason to visit Antibes and Juan le Pins. Take time and visit the Musée des Beaux-Arts located in a gorgeous large mansion dating back from 1878 then owned by an Ukrainian princess Elisabeth Kotchoubey ( Nice also offers modern contemporary art at the Musée d’art Moderne et d’art Comtemporain: The Fondation Maeght in Saint-Paul-de-Vence ( is a must if you fancy Giacometti and Miro. After roughly 18 km from the Mediterranean Riviera up the Val Nervia you arrive at Pigna (altitude 256 m). The oldest buildings in the village date back to 1200 AD and the municipality includes the village Buggio right at the foot of the Alpi Maritime. Pigna was built like a kind of fortress, so inside you find a number of smaller squares and houses built along and on top of each other in a fascinating tangle all connected by covered and mostly small streets called caruggi, which you obviously can only walk through. Cafes, bars and a few restaurants are available in Pigna as well as in the other villages scattered in the valley down to the coast and along the Riviera restaurants are plenty.


Less than 10 minutes from Pigna (altitude app. 500 m) you find Madonna di Campagna with its petite chapel where the local vicar officiates an annual mass the 16th July. The area holds several country houses and many plots of arable land with olives from cultivar Taggiasca being the most important crop. Indeed both Provence and Liguria are renowned for their virgin olive oil, as the climate enables olive oil with highly attractive organoleptic properties and very low acidity. There is also a production of flowers and plants, especially ornamental foliage (eucalyptus, ruscus and Mimosa). The region offers several car excursions, bicycle and hiking treks in a magnificent and varied nature of disparate cultural landscapes of active and abandoned olive groves, small nurseries/herb gardens and grazed commons.
