HARO HAIKU is located on the West side of beautiful San Juan Island.

The house is nestled just below the ridge line - with 180 degree views of the Olympic mountains, the Strait of Juan de Fuca beyond, and Haro Straits immediately below. Approaching the house, you pass by our Japanese-inspired garden with a 62 year old Bonsai black pine center piece.

BE SURE TO VIEW THE PHOTOS OF THE NEW, COMPLETELY REMODELED KITCHEN AND MASTER BATH !!

Inside Haro Haiku you'll find a contemporary blend of eastern and western style and decor with a decidedly Asian attitude. The interior lets the outside in through an ingenious use of sky lights and widow placements in the exterior and interior walls.

The views are spectacular!!

From South Vancouver island, across the straits to the Olympic Mountains, Pt Townsend, Mt Rainier, and Whidbey Island it never fails to inspire and delight. Sunrises, sunsets, ship and boat traffic, the lights of Victoria, and the Olympic Peninsula, clear starry nights, cloud formations, combined with the sound of Orca whales and surf below. Truly awesome!!!

Serenity and repose on San Juan Island

Our guest's comments say a lot more about our unique home and property.

About Stephanie

We have lived on San Juan Island for 26 years. We owned and operated Lakedale Resort for 18 of those. We are very knowledgeable about what to do, where to eat, and out of the way places to hike, beach or..? We can help you with reservations for activities, dining or self guided tours of the islands. Always available and close by for any assistance necessary.

Stephanie purchased this house in 2005

Why Stephanie chose San Juan Island

The location of Haro Haiku is the main reason we chose to purchase it; Located on the WEST SIDE of San Juan Island with its spectacular vistas of Haro Straits, the Olympic Mountains, easy access to Lime Kiln State Park (Whale Watch Park), Serenity of the neighborhood (None to close, but not to far), and convenient to Friday Harbor.

Property is 3 acres with lots of privacy and views.

Guestbook comments from the owner

"Hello,

I haven't had a chance to write you until now, but i just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed your lovely home. It was beyond all our expectations and we couldn't stop talking about how wonderful it was. (both the house and the location) our stay was glorious and much (or most) of that can be attributed to the haro haiku house. Thank you for your contribution to a wonderful weekend!

-Holly S.

p.s. i saw orcas from your deck!!

p.p.s. tom (my husband) requests that you contact us should you ever want to sell your home!"

Magical!

  • 5 of 5

After 18 years together we finally tied the knot, and we chose the Haro Haiku for our honeymoon getaway. We could not have been more pleased and feel that 5 stars may not be quite enough to express how much we loved this property! After a year of planning and executing a large and elaborate wedding we needed to recharge our batteries and recenter ourselves. This location was exactly what we needed!

The home is beautiful and peaceful and the location is magical. After a meandering drive off the main coastal road you reach the driveway that winds down to the house which is tucked away from the world in the heart of the west coast of the island. We spent our mornings sipping coffee listening to and watching the birds, and then twice we were able to listen to and watch the whales from the deck for hours at a time. Yep, just sitting in comfy chairs in our PJs watching whales in their natural habitat without disturbing or disrupting them. We were also able to watch whales at the Wildlife Preserve just up the coast.

We ate breakfast at the table on the deck, and had glorious seafood feasts at the bar in the kitchen. We spent the majority of our days beach combing, visiting lighthouses, watching wildlife around the island and going on excursions. We gratefully returned to the Haro Haiku each night feeling lucky to have such a beautiful place to call home during our visit. In the evenings we played games found in the entry closet at the dining room table with a view of the night time ocean, and woke up each morning to the peaceful view of the Olympic mountains and Haro straight. The beds are fantastic, and I may be buying a new mattress after sleeping on the Tuft & Needle in the master bedroom!

Before making the reservation I had hesitations about the property owner being on site, but it was a complete non-issue. I met Stephanie one morning at her residence and she was delightful. She and her husband are nearby if you need them, but while at the property you do not feel as though you are being supervised in any way.

I can not wait to return to this property to enjoy the island again with my family. My husband wrote a haiku in honor of our stay...

Simply beautiful!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at HARO HAIKU for 7 nights... my only complaint is that I wish we could have stayed longer. The home is absolutely wonderful! I always get a bit nervous when a VRBO property has a perfect 5 star score with not even a negative comment. After our stay I have to agree with all of the other reviewers. Not only do I give 5 stars to the house, but 5 stars for the view, 5 stars for the location and 5 stars to San Juan Island! Stephanie and Jack are superb hosts, their years of experience in the hospitality industry shine. Final note: Almost daily we saw Orcas from the deck. One day we even saw a couple of Humpback Whales swim by. For up close views from shore be sure to drive to Lime Kiln park or the pull offs along the way.

Very satisfied renter

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at this gorgeous property for 5 nights. The home is beautiful and in excellent condition. Walking inside you see you have a wide view of the bay from the entire west side of the house. Walking outside to the surrounding deck you can see Hurricane Ridge in Olympic Nat'l Forest to the left and Victoria, Canada to the right. The kitchen is filled with everything you would need to cook gourmet meals (except the food). The markets on the island are wonderful and the owner directed us to a fresh seafood market and the delicious Bakery (San Juan Bakery). The master bedroom and bath make you feel like you are staying at a spa. You look out onto the bay from the comfy king bed. All the bedding is high quality. We loved sitting on the deck skipping wine, watching the Orcas swim by and did I say Watching the Orcas swim by. The humming birds flitted around and a couple of deer grazed nearby. This home stay felt like we were in paradise. YES we would stay here again. It was hard to leave this lovely place.

What a Great Get away!

  • 5 of 5

Loved the house and the breath taking views. Love going to sleep with the Stars out our window and waking up to a fantastic View of the Haro. The only downside was the grill. It was not in the best working condition and probably needs replaced. But overall it was a fantastic weekend and would go back again.

Owner's Response: Hi Duncan, Thank you for your lovely review and recommending a new barbecue grill. We always appreciate our guests letting us know when something isn't working properly, is damaged, or not operating properly. Each year we upgrade areas of the home. This off season will be the remaining flooring that needs to be done along with painting the interior and exterior of the home. Hope you will come back and stay with us again sometime. Kind regards, Stephanie & Jack

Serenity and Orcas

  • 5 of 5

WOW! The views here are simply amazing, both morning and night. At sunrise we caught sight of Mt. Rainier, during the day there were the Olympics, and at night the moon, stars and lights from Victoria. Oh, and did I mention the Orcas! The host provided plenty of binoculars for us to see the Orcas frolicking in the waves down below while eagles soared overhead. I could have (and did!) sat on the deck all day reading and drinking the local San Juan Vineyards delicious wine (with locally caught Salmon for dinner!). This gorgeous home was the perfect place to get away from it all and enjoy the natural beauty of the islands. We cannot wait to visit again soon. This place is our special hideaway and we are so thankful to the hosts for sharing this stunning spot.

Other details... the home is beautifully renovated and spotless. The owner provided excellent customer service and replied promptly to all inquires. I will absolutely be recommending this property to our friends!

Outstanding Veiws

  • 5 of 5

We spend several nights in this wonderful home. The views from the deck were outstanding. We saw whales while setting on the deck almost every day of our stay. The deck and the views were so enjoyable that we spent a great deal of time at the home just relaxing on the deck. The home is very inviting. It is open and was very clean, well stocked and well maintained. We throughly enjoyed our stay at this wonderful home.
