About the property

SUMMER'S END SPECIAL : MINUS 50% BEYOND THE 7TH NIGHT. ASK FOR A QUOTE !

A wonderful hideaway in Aix-en-Provence nestled in a small quiet street in the very heart of the lively pedestrian Historical Center and ideally situated next to the City Hall, famous Cours Mirabeau, restaurants and café terraces, daily markets, museums and all other places-to-be.

You will benefit from a brand new fully equipped open-plan kitchen with all the modern amenities you would need for a short or longer stay : ceramic hob & convection oven, microwaves oven, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, washing machine/dryer, extractor fan, Nespresso coffee machine .../...

Elegantly and recently refurbished and decorated the lounge is furnished with a comfortable 2-p rapidly convertible sofa bed (brand new and classified 'daily sleeping'), a bar with stools and a 4-p dining area. Its atmosphere will charm you with its linen & caramel harmony which respects and enhances its beautiful ancient elements : marble fireplace, 18th century 'gypseries', moulded beams and nice high ceilings. As well as its full modern comfort : air conditionning, double-glazed windows, laptop desk, full HD LEDTV, HiFi stereo, free unlimited Internet wifi access.

The bathroom and the separate toilet, both having windows, include a spacious 'wide raining' walk-in shower and a heated towel rail. Environment care household and toilet preps are provided.

The bedroom is furnished with a highly comfortable 160x200 queen size bed with memory foam + multi springs mattress (brand new) and benefits from a spacious wardrobe where you can put all your belongings. A luggage rack, a wardrobe valet and a full size mirror will be at your disposal.

The most attractive asset of this old european charm apartment with premium comfort is its situation in a quiet peaceful lane while being in the heart of the social & cultural Aix life : Provençal food-markets, boutiques, art galeries, restaurants and café terraces ; as well as the Archibishop's Palace (Opera Festival), Grand Théâtre de Provence, Black Pavilion of the Preljocaj Ballet, Granet Museum (Cezanne) ...

Incidentally, while being right in the pedestrian area and due to the vicinity of the Appeal Court, the apart can be reached by car or taxi giving the opportunity to drop off your relatives and luggage before parking at a 5' walk, a rare convenience in the 80% pedestrian Historical Center. If arriving by plane or train the City center is linked to the Airport and TGV station with every-15' shuttle buses.

During the June/July Opera Festival, and if interested, we can provide our guests with 2 complimentary passes to attend the masterclasses of world renowned lyrical artists who always perform in prestigious places such as Hôtel Maynier d'Oppède, Italian-style Théatre du Jeu de Paume ...

Coming from Paris we recently retired in Aix and live at a 10' walk from the apartment if any help - or in-town/outer events or tours advices - were needed. We personally welcome each of our guests and leave at their disposal maps, touristic and restaurants guides, events calendars as well as all our best personal deals/favourites : wine bars, tapas or smart restaurants, fruit&veggies or wine producers, Aix hidden secrets, murmuring fountains or popular places-to-be. Private historical walking tours can be arranged upon request.

The Cezanne's Sainte Victoire Mountain hiking trails and the Picasso's Vauvenargues Castle can easily be reached from the center by shuttle buses.

Notice that, apart from its own charm and 'art de vivre', Aix can also be a perfect base for touring in France and Southern Europe :

- within a less-than-one-hour car drive or bus link you may enjoy Avignon and its Papal Palace, the Unesco classified Pont du Gard Roman Acqueduc, the Luberon N'al Park with its hilltop villages, lavenders fields and Cistercian Abbeys, Cassis and its pristine Calanques, Arles, its roman arenas and Van Gogh Foundation, the hilltop medieval village of Les Baux-de-Provence in the Alpilles, the Camargue N'al Park with its pink flamingos, ... or, why not, having a fully organized wine tasting tour in Châteauneuf du Pape,

- with a one and a half hour car drive/one day coach tour be a happy few and enter the legend in St Tropez, Cannes, Monaco or St Paul de Vence (Maeght Foundation for Contemporary Art),

- glamorous Paris is just at a one hour low cost shuttle flight (or 3 hours TGV ride) and so do are the unforgettable Venice, Roma and Barcelona.

So let your dreams come true ... and enjoy "La Méjanes-en-Provence" !

Aix home away from home

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I chose Aix without really knowing where to stay in Provence. What a wonderful town! The location of this apartment is great! Everything is so handy, fruit and vegetable markets, a grocery store (Monop)' as well as bakeries, cafes, restaurants, etc.

The apartment has a great kitchen with most everything you need to cook a great meal. Lovely and spacious living room. The bedroom area has more than adequate storage. I am not a fan of the bed in the corner but it was comfy. Reading lights were great!

The apartment is in a very old building, so don't expect an elevator and the stairs are very narrow. To me it just added to the experience.

Keep in mind that this is a tourist and University town, so you will get some partying on the weekends. The sound really carries through the maze of streets. We learned to keep the windows closed at night.

Would we return? For sure! Jean-Phillipe is the ultimate host. He helped us book two day trips, both of which were great. He offered so many options and ideas for things to see and places to eat that we will have to come back to be able to get to them all. He is passionate about the area and it's history and there are books in the apartment that give a great overview of the history. He spent time to orient us to our location which was a great help.

We had a great time! Thank you Jean-Phillipe, for everything!

Lovely

  • 4 of 5

The apartment was beautiful. The location could not be better. Market just steps away so nice to start the day with a stroll to the market for amazing fresh produce, so nice. The apartment was well equipped even had supplies in the kitchen to make it easy to cook your own meals, as well as nespresso coffee machine and coffee pods.

The owner was very welcoming , met us on arrival helped us in and gave many suggestions of what to visit. Loved that a bootle of wine was chilling in the fridge.

We loved our stay in Aix and would return in a heartbeat

This was my 3rd time extended stay in Aix while attending classes. This apartment meets all my requirements as to price, location and comfort. I would recommend Jean Phillipes pied a terre to world travelers with a eye for location and value.

Location is perfect, apartment small.

  • 3 of 5

Shower head needs a good clean so water doesn't spray everywhere. Toilet flush not working properly- had to remove lid to use. Apartment is too small for 3 people. Sofa bed mattress was thin with little support. Apartment would be ideal for 2. Please remove shelves overhanging the bed because it's dangerous- sharp corners just above head level! Lots of equipment for a long stay. Location is great. Good internet. Host had lots of info about the local area.

Spacious and Comfortable Apartment in the Pedestrian Zone

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I spent 6 days in this very comfortable apartment. The kitchen and bathroom were modern and very well equipped. The apartment was just as it appeared in the photos. Both the bed in the bedroom and the sofa bed were very comfortable. Having a separate bedroom was wonderful. There was also plenty of closet and storage space in the bedroom. The heating unit was efficient and came in handy. The dining table was also just the right size.

The outdoor market was just around the corner and in a large square. There we bought fresh produce and cheeses, salami etc. The bakery too was just around the corner and we brought croissants back to the apartment and then had our breakfast which always also included coffee au lait and fresh figs from the market.

There was also a market on the Cours Mirabeau on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays which sold leather goods, many clothing items such as scarves, sweaters and coats. And of course there was also produce and prepared foods.

We did not rent a car since we wanted to spend our time walking and soaking in the atmosphere. We followed Jean-Philippe's advice and visited all his recommendations including the Granet Museum. We also walked to the bus station in town and took the bus to Marseille for the afternoon.

We did not really cook but we did make fresh salads everyday for dinner with the produce from the market and of course the local Rose wine. The Monop and the Casino grocery stores were very handy for any non food items; they too were just a block away.

Next time we will stay much longer than the six days we had. Visiting Aix was a wonderful experience and staying at this apartment contributed immeasurably to our enjoyment of Aix.

Owner's Response: Many thanks Tamara for taking the time for a so detailed and kind review. We'd naturally be pleased to host you again and do know that from early June lavenders are flowering on the Cistercian Abbeys road in the Luberon N'al Pk. Elisa & Jean Philippe.

Lovely apartment in the center of Aix en Provence

  • 5 of 5

My husband, sister and myself spent the first two weeks of October in Aix at this lovely apartment. The location could not have been better, just around the corner from the wonderful market at Place Rechelme. It is right in the heart of the old city, within easy walking distance to many restaurants, markets, bakeries, shopping and the beautiful sights Aix has to offer. There is a small grocery store right around the corner in case you run out of any supplies. The apartment itself is very charming and has all the conveniences of home. It has a well equipped newer kitchen with a stove and oven as well as a combination washer/dryer. There is a separate toilet and a shower, plenty of hot water for everyone. There was more than enough storage space for the three of us. The queen size bed was comfortable and there was also a full size sofa bed in the living room. The apartment has WiFi access, a flat screen TV, stereo and plenty of reading material about France. Everything was spotless and in good working order. We found Nespresso coffee and even a welcome bottle of wine in the fridge.

Aix makes a good home base for travel to the beautiful surrounding countryside. Although bringing a car into the old city is a bit of a challenge there are plenty of parking garages within the city as well as park and rides on the outskirts. Jean- Philippe is very helpful and has many suggestions of places to visit and things to do. You will not find a more helpful host, even picking us up and returning us to the airport in Marseille. He has thought of everything and will also respond quickly to any questions you may have. We would not hesitate to rent this lovely apartment again in the future or recommend it to family and friends. Thank you again Jean-Philippe and Elisa.
