A House designed by award winning architect Mc Lean Quinlan for a magical location. Set in unrivalled landscape with breathtaking views over the Camel Estuary and Trail. The house has a multi media room, a gym, an open plan sitting room with 360 degree views, roof terrace and BBQs, cedar hot tub, fire pit. The garden is designed by Mary Reynolds, Gold winner at the Chelsea Flower Show. It is also a perfect party house for 12, with a great sound system and large entertaining space, or come for a family holiday rearranged to sleep up to 16. (cot and high chair are available). All beds are made with Egyptian cotton sheets, and local St Kits supplies the bathroom bubbles. The house is Eco friendly, with solar panels and ground source heat exchangers. There is nothing that has not been thought out. The house and guests are taken care of by Lazlo, the house-keeper, who makes sure you are well looked after. Enjoy sunsets from the sitting room or watch the moon come up from the roof terrace.
The house is very private, and is reached along a drive way, it overlooks the Camel Estuary towards Padstow on one side and open fields towards the historic town of Wadebridge on the other. A minutes walk away down the end of the Garden is the Camel Trail, a flat path that joins the small fishing harbour of Padstow to Wadebridge. Along this trail live all the estuary birds, and in summer dolphins live in the estuary. Although private and remote, the house is only 2 miles from Padstow and a hop skip and a jump to shopping Wadebridge which has just about every shop you can think of including a cinema. Many guests think they will be rushing around exploring but infact find the house so relaxing, they barely leave the sitting room, where tide watching feels almost like you have been for that long walk. The views because it is tidal change daily, and because there are so many different areas to enjoy the peaceful views it is tempting just to sip cool drinks from the bean bags or outside sofa on the roof terrace or cedar hot tub. The beds range in size from single to super king, and some can be made up in combinations. All are made with Egyptian cotton sheets. there are baths and showers and often both for each bedroom. A giant walk in fridge houses all those chilled drinks that seem to be consumed far faster than Tesco can deliver! or as happened once to us, a seabass landed in our boat.
You may be a raver, surfer, snoozer, book worm, beach comber, wild life enthusiast, fisherman, wild walker, or sand castle builder, you may arrive as one and leave as another. There is something for everyone, even wifi!
I am an interior designer and fine artist. I have done up and sold numerous houses over the years including the home of our most famous home grown Super Model! I have four children who have all spent every holiday at Camel Quarry in its new form or as the old house, since 1994.
Emma Abdy Collins purchased this villa in 2007
I bought the house as a family home, as the location is unbeatable, seconds from the sea and the Camel Trail, with breathtaking views from every window. I built this new house to replace the old one in 2007. It really is the most beautiful spot I have ever been to and I feel blessed to be the owner.
A fantastic eco-house in peaceful tranquillity. We have an abundance of wildlife, and are surrounded by estuary birds of every type. The landscape has not changed for hundreds of years in this protected area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. As we are seconds from the sea and the Camel Trail, we spend our days canoeing, cycling, beachcombing and surfing. Or, snuggled up with a book with an eye on the view.
Camel Quarry House is a wonderful, contemporary house built with the highest quality materials and expertly designed to maximise its outstanding location, set high above the beautiful Camel Estuary. The main living area with 360-degree views of the Estuary and surrounding countryside is on the top floor and has full-length glass windows on three sides, one of which opens onto a large furnished terrace with BBQ. The spacious bedrooms (mostly ensuite with more wonderful views) are on the lower two floors together with a media room (great choice of DVDs) and a gym in the lower basement. The house is superbly equipped for large groups (including a large walk in fridge and two dishwashers) and the very helpful Housekeeper lives on site providing daily cleaning and being available to deal with any problems. The feature garden with interesting sculptures, a hot tub and a fire pit leads down to the Camel Trail path (the former railway line for the old quarry) which runs between Padstow and Wadebridge and offers beautiful walks in both directions. The drive to the house which runs through five fields could be a challenge in bad weather for some cars but we managed it in a mini without any problems (as instructed we left the porche at home)! We had a wonderful week in this stunning house and would highly recommend it. Thank you, Emma, for allowing us to share your little piece of paradise!
