Beautiful pool in a lovely part of france

  • 5 of 5

We had a very relaxing 3 weeks here. Great weather. We were greeted warmly by owners Jean Claude and family. The villa itself is a 20min walk from the centre of aix. It was big enough for our family of 3. Kitchen is very small but usable. Good supermarket at Jas du Bouffon, a 5min drive away, alternatively there's a casino supermarket a short walk away. The pool is amazing and invaluable when the temperatures are soaring, our son spent hours every day in the pool. We hired a car, if you do make sure it's not too big as the parking space isnt huge, but very secure. The town of Aix is buzzing with life, plenty of shops, bars, coffee shops and restaurants to tempt you. Town of Cassis with a beach is worth a visit, approx 45min drive away. Lots to see and do, we loved it.

Attractive, private and convenient locationr

  • 3 of 5

Q - Was the listing accurate regarding location, layout, amenities?

A - The rental is on the ground floor of the property, and the owners live on the upper level and are audible. It is a 15 minute walk from the older parts of Aix. The garden and covered pool are nicely landscaped and inviting. The layout is practical except for the kitchen, which we found too small and dark for our purposes (3-week stay, preparing most of our meals). The washer and drier are in another part of the house and arrangements had to be made in advance with the owner to unlock a connecting door.

Q - Was the property clean and well maintained

A - The property was very clean but in need of some repairs. The freezer compartment latch was broken and the consequent build-up of ice prevented us from storing much food. The stove-top and (microwave) oven were not user-friendly, and the digital read-out on the oven was not fully functional. The toilet seat was loose, as was the safety bar on the shower wall. The pool was well maintained.

Q - Did the owner provide customer service

A - He initially provided prompt assistance with any problems (although I had to defrost the fridge myself), but appeared to get quite busy as our stay progressed. Considering the length of our stay, there were not enough of some provided items (such as toilet paper, coffee filters, garbage bags, dishwashing soap, etc.).

Q - Would you recommend

A - Not to persons with the same objectives as ourselves, but people wanting a shorter stay or preferring to eat out would obviously not encounter the same problems.

Q - What activities, attractions and restaurants did you like or dislike nearby

A - We arranged several tours through the Tourism office and found them very helpful. We enjoyed the proximity to the old part of Aix and there was plenty of cafes, restaurants, bistroes, etc to choose from within walking distance. Prices are fairly expensive generally. Some of the advertised attractions were closed long-term for renovations.

Owner's Response: I enjoyed Leslie and Frank are very kind people and excellent company. I would however take some elements of their remqarques. The apartment is on the ground floor of a villa and we vivont, my wife and I (65) to the floor above. Working most of the time I do not think we are particularly "audible". Regarding the hardware, it is true that the handle of the fridge frizzer had been broken by the previous tenant and that the spare part is on order. I also think that if they failed to light in the kitchen is that they probably have not found the lamp of the hood. As for the washing machine and dryer, they are on the other side of a door in the kitchen and just simply that we are asked to use that we open this door and get direct access without no problem. This has been the case. As for products of daily use, all you need is produced for the boot hire (eg 5 rolls of toilet paper). Obviously then it is the tenant who pays their acquisitions. When Frank asked again toilet paper, I provided him cepandant without notice of any kind. It seems to me generally that Frank has probably not very well integrated the difference there is between the hotel stay and one in a rental. Being highly dependent, it was difficult for him to assume the independence that gives rental. As regards long stay in this apartment, you have only read the comments provided by other people from around the world to see as their stay was appreciated, even doing that very many people have returned for a second to see a third stay of several weeks. I care for my share fond memories of my meeting with Leslie and Frank.

Perfect location

  • 4 of 5

Outside area with grill and pool are a big plus. Apartment is clean and very nicely appointed. Kitchen is tiny, but functional. We mostly grilled outside. The location is perfect for walking to Cours Mirabeau, grocery stores and restaurants. The owner was very responsive and gave us great tips on places to visit. We loved Chateau La Coste and it's wonderful outside art. Parking for a small car was a plus.

Perfect place / L'endroit parfait

  • 5 of 5

A great place, quite close to town (20 min stroll with a 4 year old in tow and we were at Place de la Mairie or The Rotonde) with everything you need for four people. Well decorated, clean, lovely relaxing pool, secure place and very nice owners. Considering how close it is to one of the main avenues it was nice and quiet. The petrol station around the corner does good fresh baguettes and croissants (dépôt de pain) and there is a medium-sized supermarket just down the road (Casino). Will certainly return.

Superb and more!

  • 5 of 5

Spacious 1 bedroom apartment with sofa bed for a party of 4! The garden and pool were so lovely we spent more time eating in with the tiny but fully functioning kitchen and excellent super market just a short walk away. The only downside was the car park because our rental car was too big to fit, but we were able to find cheap street parking with no problem. Jean-Claude was very helpful; a set of brochures and maps for touring Provence was provided along with guidebooks (in French). Old Aix is charming and easily walkable without a car. An early summer craft fair featured terrific hand made items for sale, and the weekly flower market was great! We drove to Cezanne's nearby mountain for a hike, to tropical Porquerolles island (east of Marseille) for a swim, and to ancient Vaison la Romaine to the north (with it's Roman ruins and medieval village) during our week's stay. We are seriously considering when we can return, as there is so much to see and Aix is so conveniently located. The beautiful apartment made the visit extra special!

A lovely stay in a lovely place

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for two weeks to enjoy the charms of Aix and its beautifull surroundings... and we did feel there was no better way of doing just that. The apartment is so well decorated, the amenities are just what we needed and we did very much enjoy the quiet of the garden and the pool after walking through old Aix or driving around in the amazing Provence..

This was a rare combination of having privacy and being part of the daily life in the south of France.
