About the property

Wooded Hideaway with Southern Charm & A Playful Nod to 007 In Smashing Location

Surrounded by trees in the best part of town, the James Bond cottage welcomes you with a fun & cozy vibe. In historic upscale Buena Vista, this in-town hidden retreat is a 5 minute drive to Wake Forest University, Downtown, Old Salem, Trader Joe’s & Whole Foods. Walk to the funky Airstream for the best locally roasted coffee, to a romantic gourmet dinner next door or stroll along tree-lined streets with charming historic homes built during Winston-Salem's tobacco heyday. You'll be close to all the action and after a fun day exploring, turn on the magical twinkle lights and get cozy in your secluded hideaway infused with a fun dose of 007...

In the most beautiful neighborhood in our city, the location makes an ideal base whether you're exploring Winston-Salem, touring area wineries or furniture shopping in High Point. It's a comfy hangout for Wake Forest events, UNCSA performances, romantic escapes, family visits, wedding weekends & girls getaways.

+ You'll feel comfortable & at home here, where modern comforts blend with eclectic pieces. With over 1200 square feet, there's room to spread out, relax & take it easy.

+ Wrap up in a soft throw on the comfy sofas and indulge in a good movie binge on the large Smart TV with cable and access to Netflix, Amazon Prime TV & Hulu (don't forget those passwords). Watch James Bond clips on YouTube or jam out to your favorite musicians...Carly's NoBody Does it Better anyone?

+ A long hallway separates the bedrooms creating extra privacy. The en suite bathrooms off each bedroom are perfect for couples or families traveling together. There's James Bond’s luxurious master suite with sexy cheetah carpet and Miss Moneypenny’s serene boudoir that looks out at the pretty Magnolia tree.

+ Ease into your morning with coffee on the patio when the weather is warm or curl up on one of the comfy sofas in the den with 3 sides of windows surrounded by trees.

+ Order takeout for dinner or whip up a tasty meal in the inviting kitchen with a cool skylight. Well-equipped with a Krups coffee maker, Bodum French press, Chantal tea kettle, Cuisinart stainless steel cookware, toaster oven, dishwasher, stove, microwave & fridge with water filter. There's also a Lodge cast iron grill pan for easy indoor grilling on the stovetop.

+ For your comfort, we provide high speed internet - wi-fi, cotton linens, bedding, plush towels, organic coffee, hair dryers, an iron with full size ironing board, shampoo, yoga mats, washer & dryer.

+ Check out the funky vintage Airstream for locally roasted coffee & baked goods. On different days food trucks set up by the Airstream. Look for Dough-Joe's for homemade doughnuts (just follow the irresistible aroma) and the bright yellow Bahtmobile for fresh Thai & Vietnamese-inspired dishes.

+ Go for a stroll and explore the tree-lined neighborhood with its charming historic homes built during Winston-Salem's tobacco heyday (ask Cara about the castle house).

+ Enjoy a romantic candlelight dinner or a classy Sunday brunch at the gourmet restaurant next door.

+ On a sunny day check out the interesting home goods shops 1/2 mile away and stop by the homemade gelato shop for an afternoon pick-me-up.

+ Check out the cool farm in the middle of the city. Say hello to the farm animals, pick up some local produce or explore the pumpkin patch in October (a great photo op).

+ Explore one-of-a-kind bars 1/2 mile away...there's the newly opened Joymongers pub specializing in craft beers aged in barrels, West End Opera House to play some old school darts or enjoy a brew sitting out on the deck at The Tap.

+ Sample infused honey at Urban Colony Store's “honey bar." We love the bourbon & chocolate infused honeys. The building used to be a pharmacy back in the day when they had soda fountains.

+ If you're up for an adventure, walk to The Porch Cantina for fresh Tex-Mex fare, try their mimosa flights and then head on over to Hoot's Roller Bar & Beer Company.

+ Head on over to historic Hanes Park to play some tennis. We've got 2 rackets in the cottage for you.

What a pleasurable experience it has been! Cara greeted us warmly and proudly showed us around. There were flowers in the kitchen and the fireplace glowed in the corner. The accommodations were that of a 5-star hotel. Thick bath towels, comfortable beds, absolutely perfect! The eclectic decorating is wonderful. We look forward to our next stay here.

Best place we have ever stayed!

What a magical home. Even though you are minutes from most anywhere you'd need to go, the home is tucked back in the property with lots of privacy. My favorite thing to do was to open all the blinds in the living room area and watch the leaves on the trees blow. The home is decorated well. Not to feminine. Not to masculine. Very comfortable and cozy. We loved the James Bond theme. Let's talk about cleanliness.... We own a housekeeping business that includes cleaning vacation rentals. The first thing I'm going to notice is how clean the property is and all the little details it has to offer for incoming guests. If I could give the James Bond cottage 10 stars I would! Far exceeded my expectations!! Not only was there not a speck of dust anywhere but beds were made perfect and towels were nice and fluffy. I'm a cook and the kitchen was also stocked with everything I needed. Dan and Cara greeted us with warmth and kindness. They went above and beyond to answer any questions and helped us in any way we needed. We can't thank them enough for their generous hospitality. We will definitely be back, again and again.

Beautiful little house, secluded yet convenient to downtown. Bedrooms and bathrooms are luxurious, and I felt as if I wanted to move right in. Highly recommended. I travel frequently, domestically and internationally, and this house was one of the nicest houses in which I have stayed.

Was absolutely perfect! We travel to Winston-Salem often for my daughter that is at Wake Forest University. During this trip we needed accommodations for multiple days and didn't want to do a hotel room! The place was perfect, close to the hospital and downtown! It is in excellent condition and well stocked for anyone's needs. Quiet, and peaceful! Thank you so much!

Nice location, can walk for morning coffee or around the neighborhood. Very close to restaurants and easy to reach the highway for exploring.

About Cara & Dan

Hi, We're Cara & Dan. We’re your hosts and live in the front cottage with our Lassie-look-alike Mr. Parker. We look forward to welcoming you to our cozy compound in the woods. Cara is a pillow designer and Dan is 6' 5" so not surprising, a high school basketball coach. When you arrive, we are on hand to welcome you (unless we're on an adventure) and help you during your stay. We are respectful of your privacy and happy to answer questions and offer suggestions about dining, shopping and places to see in our city. Your quarters are in the Hidden Cottage, a fully self-contained spacious 1200 square foot apartment with a private entrance. You have 2 convenient parking spaces in the front with additional parking available if needed.

Why Cara & Dan chose Winston-Salem

Stay in an authentic Southern cottage complete with a Magnolia tree by the patio. Located in the upscale Buena Vista/Reynolda Historic District. Spanish for “beautiful view" here we give it a Southern twist and pronounce it—Byoo-Na Vista. It is the most beautiful neighborhood in our city.

In case you haven't noticed, Cara's favorite Bond is Roger Moore. Since the cottage is hidden in the woods in the middle of town, we thought it’d be just the kind of pad 007 would hang-out in if he had spy biz in Winston-Salem, ha! With a playful nod to 007, it's an inviting, fun place to stay.

The neighborhood was designed as a tree-lined haven in the middle of a bustling city & the first homes were built in 1915. Fun Fact: The neighborhood became a showplace for some of the most popular American architects of the 20th century—most notably, Charles Barton Keen, a favorite of wealthy tobacco & textile families. He designed our treasured Reynolda House for Katharine & R.J. Reynolds, which is a 5 minute drive from the cottage.

What makes this cottage unique

We love this neighborhood. The Hidden cottage makes an ideal base for exploring our city. The location is fantastic, you're just minutes to basically everything. In this charming historic neighborhood, you'll get a real feel for what it's like to live here and you'll have fun discovering our local neighborhood spots.

Before, we lived downtown but prefer this location because it’s the best of both worlds...the cottage is tucked away and secluded and yet we're close to great restaurants, shops & sights. One of our favorite perks is being able to walk to the Airstream for the best coffee in town!

If you're a runner, you can head out of the driveway and hit the pavement; there's so many different routes to take (and some challenging hills). Or go on a leisurely stroll and explore the interesting architecture.

We're close to some cool vintage furniture & home goods shops. Do some shopping and then pop in the homemade gelato shop for an afternoon pick-me-up.

Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Publix & Harris Teeter grocery stores are an easy 5 minute drive away. On Saturdays from April to November, you can check out the organic farmer's market.

Spent 3 days here while exploring WS. Cara could not have been nicer. The cottage is charming and has everything you need for a stay away from home. Nice restaurant in short walking, and a great neighborhood to take a walk in. Don't hesitate on this place. You won't regret it!

Not a single detail went overlooked into preparing the cottage for us; from fresh flowers, a bottle of wine, and the most kind welcoming to our getaway weekend. This cottage is a hidden gem in the heart of Winston Salem. With so much to do in the area, great restaurants, and nearby parks will be back again and again to spend time together and relax. Thank you Cara and Dan for making this so wonderful for us!

Cozy Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this cottage. We had long tiring days out helping with a new baby in the family and it was the perfect place to return to each evening to relax and restore ourselves. It was very clean and contained many little details to delight the observant eye. The linens and towels are top notch. The decor was fun and very well done. Our special favorites were a delicious smelling candle called Maple Bourbon, the nice bottle of wine from our hosts and a great coffee maker to start our early mornings off! Wonderful!
