Lovingly Renovated 5 BR Brown Shingle Overlooking the Bay

Bedrooms 5
Separate WCs1
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms, 5.5 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

Fig Cakes Hill is a 1912, brown shingle house that has just been lovingly renovated as our weekend getaway. Just north of the village of Inverness, Fig Cakes sits on a hill, with a long sloping lawn down to Sir Francis Drake Road and Tomales Bay.

Downstairs is a living room with a huge stone fireplace and a dining room with a long table that seats 12. Both of these rooms have double sets of French doors, that open onto a porch overlooking the Bay. The new kitchen has been enlarged, so that now it is a perfect place to cook with friends. It is complete with place settings for 20 plus and plenty of high quality cookware, a Viking range, two Kitchen Aid dishwashers, and plenty of work space on its new concrete counter tops.

Also downstairs is one of the five bedrooms, with its own full bath, ideal for anyone who is not comfortable with the stairs. The downstairs is handicapped-accessible.

Upstairs are four additional bedrooms. Two have full baths and the other two have half baths and share a brand-new hallway shower room. Four of the five bedrooms have water views, two have king-size beds, three have queen size beds, and two of the bedrooms have private decks. In fact, there is a total of 6 decks at Fig Cakes, two of them large enough for groups to hang out and mingle. The master bath has a whirlpool tub/shower combination.

Within minutes, guests can be hiking, walking on the beach, shopping or looking at art galleries in Inverness or Point Reyes Station, visiting the Point Reyes National Seashore, or eating in one of the interesting restaurants in the area.

Great house for a group with views an comfort!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Fig Cakes Hill house in Inverness from Friday 8/24 to Sunday 8/26. We felt very at home in this house. It was quite comfortable and cozy. We slept really well there and it was so quiet. The view was amazing. We were gone during the day but it was still nice to stay at such a beautiful place. Brooke was so helpful and nice.

I recommend this house for a big group.

Wonderful home away from home and much more.

  • 5 of 5

Honestly, Fig Cakes Hill did not disappoint. Brooke's home is TRULY a wonderful space that is both spacious and cozy for any large family of adults and children.

Once you entire Brooke's home, you immediately have this sense of warmth. We found ourselves wondering around the home admiring the decor, realizing that this home is more than just that its a place of escape.

For my family and I, we couldn't have chosen a better place. To be in a space where we felt comfortable just staying in and enjoying our time together. We spent most of our time cooking in the beautiful modernized kitchen and barbecuing (both charcoal and propane) outside on the large deck which has plenty of patio furniture. We brought all our own food and drinks prior but eventually did need to go to the local market store(s) to pick up a few items (coffee/beer). Prices were pretty steep but as expected in a small town. When we felt like being tourist, Point Reyes lighthouse was a great place to visit and not that far of drive to get too.

After I finalized our stay, Brooke emails you a few weeks out with driving directions including the home address and information about the house. I will say this, when reading the information is when I was first made aware of a tenant that does live in the lowest level of the home. Refer to first photo out of the 15 (1-15) at the lower level deck with french doors is the tenants space. Don't get me wrong, the tenant was really nice and waved to us when we first arrived and then we hardly ever saw them after that. I was just a little surprised when I found out.

My family and I will always recommend staying here. We had such a great time and look forward to coming back.

Clean, comfortable, convenient

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 10 with 2 toddlers had one of our best house rental experiences at Fig Cakes Hill. The lovely old home is renovated to a spacious yet cozy gathering destination. It has lots of bathrooms and a very well-equipped, large kitchen. The heating system works well but we used the fire place every evening (firewood provided) for ambience in the living room while we played games. The beds were very comfortable too! We loved the central location for accessing Point Reyes National Seashore, spending all 3 days at different beaches. Brooke was wonderful to work with, answering any questions I had quickly. We would definitely choose to stay here again!

A lovely older home with lots of architectural interest. Attractively furnished. Unfortunately our four night stay came shortly after the owner had installed new rugs in many of the rooms in preparation for listing the property. The weather had been unseasonably warm and the house all closed up. When we arrived there was an overwhelming odor. We opened every window and door 24 hours in advance of our guests arriving, but the odor was still overwhelming in 3 of the 5 bedrooms a day later. Unfortunately two of the couples found the odor so offensive they left in the middle of the night to seek other lodging. I contacted the owner afterwards and she advised the rubber backing on the new rugs was the origin of the very off-putting smell. She offered no adjustment in the rate. All in all a very disappointing experience - but two stars for its potential.

Owner's Response: I am so sorry that this guest was unhappy with a smell in the house. I do remember a discussion at the time, but I don't think I was aware that people left the house because of it. And no one ever suggested that money should be refunded. My home is rented out almost every weekend, and guests love my house in general, giving me 5-star reviews, and returning over and over. My plan is certainly to look into the odor issue, but this review would have been much more meaningful and helpful if it hadn't come 6 months after their stay at the house.

Mother of the groom

  • 5 of 5

My son was recently married in Inverness. My husband and I rented Fig Cakes Hill for our extended family's stay in the area. We could not have found a more wonderful property for the long wedding week-end. Five couples shared the space and we never felt crowded. We had a spectacular dinner party there one night and found the kitchen to be fully stocked with anything that we could possible need. Our mornings and afternoons were spent lounging on the multiple decks with either morning coffee or afternoon wine in hand. The place is impeccably decorated with a comfortable inviting vibe that makes one feel as if she never wants to leave! Frankly, all of us felt a bit sad upon our departure. I highly recommend this property. P.S. You are close to all that the Point Reyes area offers. It is conveniently located to all of the recreational activities that abound.
