About Vincenzo Stabile

It is not easy to talk about me in few words. Anyway, my name is Vincenzo and I come from Scopello. Accommodating tourists in my properties is more than a passion. For me, travelling means being part of a new world, getting in touch with new people, knowing their culture, their history, their religion and also their culinary tradition… What else do I like? I like food, because food is part of our culture and I can’t deny I love eating! Good food makes me happy. What else? Let me think. I’m very stubborn and I don’t stop running until I cross the line, even if I am not the first one to do it. I believe the most important thing in life is to reach your goals, even if they require a hard work.

Being a good host is not easy but I'll try to do my best to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Any suggestion or critique will be welcome. I will be at your disposal if any problem will occur during your stay. If you don't like something, give me the possibility to remedy in time... I'd like you could bring back home a good memory of your holiday...

Grazie Vincenzo!!! Laura, Robi, Marco e Chiara da Faenza (Ra)

Tuna Fishing Nets of Scopello

Distance from my Villas: 600 m;

Places to visit: Tuna Fishing Nets and Sea Stacks, Zingaro Nature Reserve.

What to eat: Pane Cunzatu (stuffed bread), cassata, panelle (Sicilian fritters), fried rice balls, sfincione (thick focaccia, you can try it in a bakery at the end of a narrow lane: after the square, go straight on and take the second road on the right). Here you can taste the delicious bread Cunzatu under the fig trees!

What to do: Just relax in a typical Sicilian village, go to the wonderful beaches, enjoy a daytrip, scuba diving.

How to arrive: Exit from my Villas, when you arrive in the village turn left into via Vincenzo Mazzarella, then take the first road on the right and enter 12, Via XXIV Maggio.

Best Restaurants: La Tavernetta, il Fuego, La Terrazza, Il Baglio, Sotto Vento, Torre Bennistra.

Tuna Fishing Net of Scopello

Distance from my Villas: About 1 km.

Places to visit: The Sea Stacks of Scopello.

The most beautiful stacks are those who have a story to tell: The Tuna Fishing Net of Scopello is just like that. This is the history of some courageous men who abandoned their families every year in order to go fishing by the sea, just opposite the stunning sea stacks of Scopello.

These fishermen didn't leave the small bay for about four months, in order to prepare themselves for tuna fishing.

Tuna fishing in Castellammare del Golfo was one of the most lucrative activities for centuries and kept busy over 250 men for four months in the four tuna nets of the village. Thanks to its location and its crystal clear water, Castellammare was an ideal point for tuna fishing because of the large groups of tunas who migrated from the East to the West in summer. After the 2nd World War, the intensive fishing in the Mediterranean Sea stopped the migratory flow of tunas and made all tuna nets close. The last one who closed, in the 80s, was the tuna net of Scopello, which remains the best preserved. This is a required stop for those who want to know this magic corner of Sicily.

On the ramp that once took boats from the warehouses to the sea, now lie the huge anchors that once kept together vertically the fishing nets. The small fleet of the tuna-fishing boats unravelled the nets into the sea in order to capture tunas in a "death chamber". After the Rais, the head of the tuna net, said there were no longer tunas coming, he ordered to pull back the nets and start the tuna gathering.

Zingaro Nature Reserve

Distance from my Villas: About 2 km.

What to do: A walk through the nature from the coasts of Scopello to San Vito Lo Capo. We suggest you to visit the Naturalistic Museum, the Museum of Sea Activities and the Museum of the Farming Society.

Full price ticket € 3, reduced price ticket (children aged up to 4), free ticket (Italian citizens aged more than 65, children of all countries aged less than 10).

The park is open from 7 am to 7.30 pm.

Suggestions: We suggest you to bring with you fresh water, comfortable shoes and barrier cream!

What to eat: There is no place where you can dine inside the Reserve! You can buy something to eat in the Scopello village or on the road before arriving.

How to arrive (Northern side): Exit from the Hotel and go to the left, then follow directions for San Vita lo Capo and finally for the Zingaro Nature Reserve.

How to arrive (Southern side): Exit from my Villas and, when you arrive at the village of Scopello, you find on the left Via Vincenzo Mazzarella. Take the first cross on the left and when you arrive at the end of the street, you are at the Zingaro Nature Reserve.
